Could someone please tell me why everyone that hates Gwen, or nearly everyone, insists that they LOVE Eve and that she is a fantastic actor. Personally, I have never met Eve and seeing her interviewed a few times and seeing pics of her here and there hasn't made me decide on her personality away from Torchwood. As for her acting, I think she is competent but nothing out of the ordinary compared with others in the show.
Are some of us Gwen haters just embarrassed to admit it? It seems folk say--I hate Gwen but Eve is a lovely person and a fantastic actor and really beautiful---
Anyone read the latest Torchwood Mag? It is an Eve is great issue----vomit vomit---

Concerning the Torchwood Mag I saw her face taking up the whole f***ing cover so I gave it a wide berth.

I despise the character of Gwen, I don't see, as Gwen fans seem to do, the moral superiority of Gwen, or the parts of her that keep Torchwood 'human'.
I really don't see how she went from getting coffee for everyone and working the beat as a cop, to being a Torchwood super agent.
But I digress, as I tend to do when ranting about Gwen.
From what I've seen of Eve, I just feel... Eh. I, like you, have never met her and can't quite comment on who she is as a person. I can not stomach most Torchwood interviews since they mostly appear to be about her and she seems to have bought the Gwen perfection hype.
Which is really just a mark against her...
I don't find her beautiful at all. To me, Naoko Mori is an infinitely more attractive woman.
Once again the best word to sum up how I feel about her is,eh.
Honestly if she and her various 'perfections' weren't shoved in my face during every minute of the show, I probably wouldn't even notice her.
If opening her eyes really, *really* wide makes Eve Myles a fantastic actor, I really don't want to see what she does when she isn't even trying.

Also it's like every time she talks, it has that undercurrent that she's being smug. I don't know if it's just in TW or all venues of what she does, but it bothers the hell out of me. Like her role as Gwen have gone to her head and she really thinks she is that special.
Dude, I have missed like 3 TW magazines because she was on the cover. The one with Gwen and Rhys, the one with Jack and Gwen, then the one with Jack, Gwen and Rhys. I want to collect them all, but I refuse to collect the ones she is on and that pisses me off greatly.

Eve may be beautiful (if you say so) but the gap tooth thing just drives me crazy. See a cosmetic dentist already.
I saw the cover of the latest TW magazine. You could gather from what I've already said - it put me off my dinner in no small way.

Since the actors do get some say in their characters (Gareth was reported as saying he adds things to his character and the writers etc are ok with it) I can only conclude that she likes Gwen as is and doesn't care that the majority of people I've read on chat rooms and message boards don't really care for her. And since RTD was quoted once as saying he wrote Gwen for her he must love the way she's portrayed. Makes me wonder exactly how good he really is at his job too.

I thought she was good in Merlin I still get hate Gwen but she is just a character Eve Myles plays.

The gap in her teeth irritates me too although it probably shouldn't. However, we are a family that has teeth bothers so---

It always seems that if you don't follow any comment against Gwen with 'but I'm sure Eve's a lovely woman' someone sends the banshees to tear you a new one.
I hate Gwen with a passion, possibly more than I hate Ruby from Supernatural (and that's a whole lotta hate), and I'll admit I find that the hate can bleed a tiny bit into my views on a certain actor; at least in the way they handle their character in interviews. I guess it's why I still adore Jared Padalecki even after he... did things... I'd rather not speak of. Because he doesn't come across as anything more than adorable in interviews/conventions/etc. Eve, on the other hand, seems to carry a bit of...I don't know if smugness is the right word, but she certainly seems completely in love with her own creation. She talks about Gwen as if EVERYONE adores her (fans, writers, actors, etc.) and how the Jack/Gwen romance is the core of the show. I guess to be frank she seems a little delusional (which I feel bad for saying).
As for the gap thing? I can't stand when someone uses that against her personality, acting, or any facet of who she is as a person. Great, you can't stand her acting (me neither), you can't stand Gwen's personality (me too!), but don't blame your dislike on a tiny imperfection. This coming from someone who has a small gap between their two front teeth, and has felt absolutely horrific about herself for most of her life. It's actually been after entering this fandom that I've made a move to buy invisalign braces (hello $6,000 later) to correct the problem.
But wow. That turned into a bit of a rant.

My exact words were --The gap in her teeth irritates me too although it probably shouldn't. However, we are a family that has teeth bothers so---
Unless my command of English is worse than I thought this does not suggest that I am blaming my dislike of her on her teeth--does it?

I'm talking about those who do use her teeth as a reason for why they want her dead, because I've certainly come across it a lot. o.O
But no, I'm really sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you in any way, by no means what I was aiming for. :)

It's truly ridiculous to "hate" her because the character she plays. And really? Hate? Its a little bit to much since she is just doing a job (even if she's bad at it).
What I'm trying to say is that I just hate her character and the way she plays it, not her as a person.

The problem is the morons that write it, not the actors that attempt to bring it to life.
Time and time again we here of the producers putting bits in, to help bring scenes to life, or attempt to keep the show "canon" when dealing with writers who quite patently have never watched it!!!
If they had Steven Moffat writing a few episodes it might pick up, as it is we have RTD, whose writing for DW has been pretty dire, now writing for TW...this is a man who has proven he has obviously not felt it necessary to keep up with the way the character has developed......
Really, you need to stop focusing on Gwen and apply yourselves to trying to get the Beeb to consider a fourth series because, believe me, at the moment it just is not happening!!!
