I was reading a interview with both JB and GDL in Popculturezoo and I noticed the answer to one of the questions which in my mind blew 'Gwen is the heart of Torchwood and keeps them all grounded' out of the water

The question being?

PCZ: I asked John this as well, Jack being from the 51st Century and being immortal and maybe kind of being in a mindset above everything, do you think that the relationship with Ianto keeps him grounded and aware of the little people?

GDL: Absolutely. I think Ianto’s always made him care and that is really the heart of the show. Ianto’s always bearing his emotional side and vulnerable side and keeping his feet on the ground. I think of all the characters, he’s the one who tries to keep everyone else’s feet on the ground. He brings everyone back to reality, often with a dry, witty remark or taking a dig at somebody just to sort of bring people back down.

What do you guys think?

First Gareth's comment at Comic Con *points to icon* and now this... I love that man.

'He brings everyone back to reality, often with a dry, witty remark or taking a dig at somebody just to sort of bring people back down.'
Gwen my be the heart of the team (when she's not completely wrapped up in her own problems, like a teenage girl), but Ianto is the soul.

It could be argued that Ianto is the heart of the team; he takes care of people a lot more than Gwen does (she cares for people, but only those right in front of her). Look at how they interact with Jack; Gwen badgers him, and he still doesn't tell her things (KKBB), but Ianto sits back and lets Jack open up on his own (TtLM)

Yeah, I really get that feeling from the RTD, Eve interviews I've read. RTD seems to have a giant crush on Eve/Gwen. I don't think Eve even realizes how bad of a character Gwen really is. I think Eve said in an interview once that she was disappointed that Gwen had to settle down with Rhys (no more flirting). So, she likes that fact that Gwen comes off as a tramp? o_0

Brilliant. I always thought that was how it really was and to hear them actually acknowledge it makes me happy

:-)

You should really post this interview link over at [livejournal.com profile] jackxianto.

And, I have nothing really interesting to say, other than I 100% agree with everything they've both said.

Ianto cares leaps and bounds over Gwen, the majority of that (although certainly not limited to) pertaining to his continuous mothering of the team.

I'm certainly waiting anxiously for the new series, to see more Jack/Ianto interactions, and hopefully their relationship continues with more scenes between the two to match the constant Rhys/Gwen scenes we're privy to.

You and me both.

I love this interview. In particular the bit where John says that Jack has fallen for Ianto.

You hear that Gwackers, Jack loves Ianto.

SO STOP SAYING ITS JUST SEX BETWEEN THEM!

Sorry for the caps, but those people p*** me off!

That's what they say?

Huh.

Also.
"I love this interview. In particular the bit where John says that Jack has fallen for Ianto."

There. From the horse's mouth (so to speak), it's entirely acceptable to think that Jack and Ianto are twu wuv. *nods*

Yep.

It's like Janto shippers can accept Jack has strong feelings for Gwen, but the Gwackers seem to think he only loves Gwen and is just using Ianto for sex.

Makes me so mad, but then again Gwackers in general make me mad. Lol

Haha. I know what you mean.

Yes, I think Jack has strong feelings for Gwen, but those fall under the paternal/sibling category. It's the ol' Jack loves Gwen, but is in love with Ianto. It's kind of like, did I dream up that whole conversation in To the Last Man, or are they just ignoring the, well, let's face it, the confession of love Jack directed towards Ianto?

I'm really not into the whole, 'ship war' that tends to explode over the interwebs, but I'm perfectly happy shaking my fist at them (and Gwen) in private, and ever so often in a 'secure' community. XD

I agree 100%. I don't know how anyone could watch that scene in to 'The Last Man' and still say its only sex.

I don't participate in 'ship war' either, but I love slagging off the Gwackers in this comm. *evil smile*

Thank you for posting the interview with both of them - it was lovely to read.

On the subject of Gwackers, they won't shut up until Jack walks Ianto down the aisle, and even then they'll still say it's just because he can't have Gwen.

Gwackers make me mad . . . . *stomps off scowling*
