So I was thinking about the people I've compared Gwen to in my other fandoms, and I thought I'd make a list of why they're like Gwen.

Family Guy - Meg - Not useful for anything other than taking the p out of.
South Park - Cartman - Manipulative, self-centered,self-important a-hole.
Red Dwarf - Rimmer - Incompetent annoying, smeg-head.
Futurama - Fry - Low-intelligence and loves someone that (hopefully in Gwen's case) will never love them back. (I love Fry though)
Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Cordelia - Self-obsessed bitch, thinks she's better than everyone else.
Frasier - Roz - Slut, plain and simple.

I was wondering if there's anyone you consider the 'Gwen' in your other shows and why you think they are like her.

Oh no! Don't compare Gwen to Cartman :( He's amazing.
Cartman > Gwen.

I agree with everything else you said though.

And I sometimes compare Gwen to Sarah in Hollyoaks not just because I hate them both because they both think that they are such a good person/friend when in actual fact they are a terrible person/friend and also very self-absorbed.

But Rimmer is a darling... :(
(And I quite like Cordy off Buffy too.)

I always think Gwen as quite like Monica off Friends, but that is purely because they both annoy me a lot and get in the way of my favourite OTPs.

I agree with pretty much everyone. I did warm up to Cordelia when she was in Angel though. I think that's because I was so distracted by Wesley's prettiness, though. I actually compare Gwen more to Buffy. Gwen would so be the person to have sex with the shmexy man even though she knew it could quite possibly destroy the world.

I also think Rory in Gilmore Girls is a bit like Gwen. She seems to think the wold revolves around her to the point where she'll sex with a married man because they're just so connected. Rory and Gilmore Girls as a whole make me grit my teeth.

Maid Marian from Robin Hood BBC is the typical damsel in distress. Every man on the show is madly in love with her and she is constantly in danger or being taken hostage. She is very self important.

Thank you!!! I'm so glad someone else finds Rory intolerable! I've been rewatching the early seasons recently, and I can't even watch the last half of several of those episodes. The one that was on TV today, for example, was the one where Lorelai decides that Jess is evil incarnate because Rory was accidentally injured in a car crash when he swerved to avoid hitting an animal. What did she think anyone else would have done differently? No, Rory herself didn't do anything wrong in that episode, but Lorelai's reaction was born out of that idea that Rory is irreproachable and everyone must structure their lives around protecting and serving her, and I hate that characterization. thinking about it, Cameron in House is kind of like her, always trying to do the ~right thing.
and the way she is with House as well.

Totally agree! But then again I see a little of Gwen in almost all female characters, they are mostly whiny, bitchy and self important and it annoys the hell out of me.

Oooh, I like this game!

Marissa from The O.C.: She's an angsty, self-involved character who the writers hoped would be the central and most sympathetic figure. The audience, however, fell in love with Seth, the charmingly geeky supporting character, and didn't really care about her. In response to that, the writers gave Marissa even more screen time and ruined Seth's character.

Poochy from The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochy Show: I think this is self-explanatory. :D

Seth is fairly Ianto-esque: his primary roles are offering ironic commentary about the rest of the cast, and cultivating UST with the brooding hero. Maybe if we're lucky, Gwen will have the same third season arc that Marissa did: she had lots of long and irritating storylines, then died, then was never spoken of again.

Poochie for the win. At least Poochie was *supposed* to be a joke.

Oh - poor Roz - how unfair! (LoL)

At least Roz had some style - and wit - and - and - and -

Class! She never pretended to be pure and virtuous, she was always honest in her - adventures!

Unlike the Gap Fairy.

King of the hill- Peggy Hill- both have inflated senses of self importance.

The difference between most of these characters and Gwen, is that we're not constantly having it rammed down our throats about how wonderful and special they are.

I nominate Abby from ER who can do no wrong in the eyes of TPTB it seems.

Elizabeth "Pirate King" Swann of Pirates of the Carribean

Col. Samantha "Sam" Carter from SG-1! I loved her in seasons 1-3 and even wanted her with my Daniel (at least until I discovered slash and wanted Jack and Daniel lol). Then in season 4 they made her into this whiny, bitchy barbie that pined after Jack. The new writer didn't like the slashy-ness people saw in Jack and Daniel some pushed a Sam/Jack story line ruining Daniel and leading to his death when the actor didn't like where they were taking his character and quit. (He came back though, yay!)I didn't need to see the slash between Jack and Daniel on screen like we get with Janto in TW, but SG-1 was a team show and the Jack/Sam dynamic ruined it! Grrr! Sorry, rant over...

I totally agree with all of these, especially cameron from house, marissa from the O.C, sam from SG1, Elizabeth from PoTC and Buffy from BtVS. All of them make me cringe horribly. Of course the queen bee of bitch is still Gwen, but she has some pretty close competitors and many others who are far to Mary Sue like to be useful. There are too many others to name, though Catherine from CSI really annoys me!
