Jack Leaving Gwen In Charge

in soooo many fics, including the one I'm reading right now. It's like this:

Jack Harkness - world-renowned neurosurgeon

Ianto Jones - world-renowned researcher

Toshiko Sato - Top neurosurgeon

Owen Harper - Top neurosurgeon

Gwen Cooper - First-year med student

Jack feels faint. He is in the midst of a critical portion of a very delicate brain operation, assisted by his colleagues, Toshiko Sato and Owen Harper. Tosh and Ianto Jones collaborated to develop the experimental technique Jack is using in this operation. Gwen is watching from the gallery, as part of her class work. Jack knows he will not be able to finish this operation, since he is feeling so unwell. He turns to his colleagues and says, "While I am indisposed, I am letting Gwen take over for me". Unfortunately, this causes Tosh, Owen, and Ianto, who is standing by, to all fall down dead from shock, caused by the unimaginable absurdity of this. However, had they taken a moment to think before dying, they would have realized that Jack is really, really ill and completely out of his head. Why on EARTH would anybody in their right mind ever put Gwen bloody Cooper in charge of anything? The end.

That's just how it is, and it makes no sense, you just wouldn't leave a rookie in charge of anything, never mind a top-sevret alien-hunting organisation where specialist knowledge is required. Cardiff would be doomed.

I know, and I can't tell you how many fics I've read where exactly that happens. Everyone is there, and he picks Gwen of all people to be in charge. Gwen, who doesn't even know who UNIT is. There is so much to really be appalled at in the show and some of the fics. Thank heavens for the really good writers out there who have a clue. Thank YOU.

Thank YOU, I'm just trying to do my bit to keep the janto love alive. I might not really bash Gwen usually, but that's only because she's not a major part of most stories and bashing doesn't fit the tone. If I had a good bashing idea, I'd write it. I'm not going to write her being in charge though, I just make her clean up her own messes. There are ways of bashing without being in your face about it. Although I did turn her orange in one drabble. And make her nose vanish in another. And shrink her in another... *grins*

And it's all good. LOLOL I really hate stories where she screws up horribly or does something unforgivable, and it just gets brushed under the rug with a warning, at most. I hate that.

So long as there is fan fiction, Janto lives. I've never had a character impact my life like Ianto Jones has. I guess we have to credit Davies for creating him, but the rest of it I will never forgive him for.
