Anyway, teenage, straight girls, are huge Cooper/Gwack fans because RTD is giving them a character that thinks the way they do and is as immature/naive as they are. I really don't understand and can't think of any explanation for making Rhys out to be abusive...cause he's anything but...I dread to think what they do to poor Ianto (I will not read their stories).
I got curious once and clicked on the reviews for one of their stories. In one review, after praising the story and the pairings, the reviewer continued to say she/he never liked gay couples and was very happy not to see any of *those* in any of the author's stories...
I don't want to make this a pro-gay, anti-gay argument because it isn't, but that one review pissed me off so much I decided to steer clear of anything they post, reviews and all.

Gwen is so painfully immature, she does come across as a silly, giggly teenager, so I suppose it's no surprise that teenage girls identify with her. Also no big surprise if they use her as a convenient, ready-made self-insert character (she was RTD's after all) because they're either not confident enough in their writing or too lazy to come up with an original character to represent themselves. Then, of course, they have to get the shining hero all to themselves.
I doubt that any of them truly understand Jack's character, like Gwen they just think he's gorgeous and how great would it be to have a boyfriend who will never get any older? Will always look this gorgeous? They don't consider how damaged he is or the fact that beneath the mantle of hero, he's still an ordinary man with the same faults and failings as any other man. They expect him to be perfect, flawless, eternally heroic. The moment Jack does anything she doesn't approve of, shows himself to be an ordinary, fallible human, Gwen gives him hell for it. She has no tolerance for Jack being anything less than perfect.
Gwen is the spoiled child who wants everything her own way because she's been taught to expect it by her doting parents, especially her dad. She thinks all men will just do whatever she wants. I don't know how Rhys puts up with her, he's a saint and definitely not abusive. Gwen is more likely to be the abusive one in that relationship.
Hopefully those girls will get bored and go off to pastures new soon, and let their Harcooper (Gwack) stories die.

The question I have for them is why they watch Torchwood if gay relationships bother them so much? I mean, they're welcome to write whatever they want, however, claiming their purpose on their profiles or in their notes pisses me off.
From experience, I think people who make up female characters for Jack and Ianto tend to be more homophobic than any Gwack fans, who usually just like that pairing (though turning everyone heterosexual like these girls do sends a bit of a strange message...).I don't think I've ever heard a Gwacker-author openly rant against gays, though--however, the same can't be said about their fans.
Anyway, the world just depresses me sometimes...

It always seems to be the same (or very similar) with the made-up female characters. They're often teenagers, Jack immediately falls for them, and of course he's never felt this way about anyone before. Ianto is dumped, Jack marries new girl and they immediately start a family, and everyone is so happy for them, because the new girl is wonderful and super special and everyone adores her... It's disgusting.
With the Gwackers it's just as bad though, because I guess Gwen gets free of Rhys (he dies or dumps her) and then Jack professes undying love and Ianto is forgotten.... I don't know, I don't read Gwack. Long ago, when I was new to the fandom, I was reading a fic where Ianto suddenly told Jack that he should stop Gwen and Rhys' wedding and be with the woman he loves... I stopped reading at that point.

I think the thing with teenage girls, is that we can hope they grow up and see love and relationships in a more mature way. Also hoping, of course, that they drop their homophobia along the way.

They can paint it any colour they want, they can add spots or stripes, bring in some really good lighting, or a nice touch of wallpaper - but we will still recognise it as crap and mock it accordingly.

I saw 'Harcooper' pop up, and assumed it referred to Owen Harper-Gwen Cooper.
Sounds just as bad as Gwack. I know I'm biased, but even so...
