This link popped up in my Facebook timeline and after reading a few of the comments I can't help but wonder, how about replacing the Gwennienator with River Song? Thoughts?

I don't think she meant replacing Gwen, I think she meant River and Jack way in the future, away from Torchwood, having adventures throughout the galaxy. Which I would so watch! I don't see River sticking to Cardiff and being hapy about it. Honestly, I wouldn;t want to see her rebuilding the Hub, space adventures on other planets sound like so much more fun!

On a side note, I was there during Alex Kingston's panel and then got to meet her just for a little bit of time and she is such an amazing person. It was exciting!

and then return to Diff at some point to find... our old and beloved Torchwood.

I could even see River deliberately making that happen. We've seen in Doctor Who that River has no problem with messing with things that should happen/have already happened/etc when it's for the right reasons, and if she can understand doing it for her love for the Doctor, I'm sure she could understand Jack needing to do it for his love of Ianto.

Fine ANYBODY could be an improvement on Gwennie-poo. She could help bring back Tosh Owen and of Course IANTO. She'll have to keep her paws off Jack, so recruit PCAndy - she can flirt with him. What I'd REALLY like to see is for TPTB to figure out a way for Donna to rememember. Donna in Torchwood would be great.

Gwen would have been okay if she'd remembered her place as the junior member, obeyed orders, AND STOPPED MOONING OVER jACK

I adore River, so I would drop to my knees in worship if she and Captain Jack went on an adventure minus Gwen. And, frankly, I love the idea of the two con artists teaming up to treat the universes to their talents. Mix John into the mix and I'd be in heaven!

Done! Motherfucking done and sold to Alex kingston for all my love and my firstborn child!!!

Seriously, though. I think they'd need a Ianto to stay grounded and also not lost in guns and orgy's.

....

Heck, who am I kidding? I just want to see Ianto again.

Ianto could handle Jack/River/John- Jack withhold sex-John he use as target practice-river coffee maybe?

I dont care for River Song, care less about Torchwood, and even less about Gwen. Torchwood was murdered and Jack was destroyed as a character. Let TW rest in peace.

damn girl (or dude, on the off chance that there is a man on the boards), that's cold. I mean, I understand where you're coming from, part of me is going "nope, it's done, dead, bye-bye Torchwood" as well and I know not everyone is a fan of River (It took me quite a while, to say the least) but another part is just enjoying the community as it is.

To me, the show isn't really dead if we keep talking about it in this way. A spin-off is probably never going to happen and I really don't see Torchwood ever continuing, but the AGA is still a very pleasant place to go to and the stories the fans tell are a joy to read.

Can I ask if you're feeling particularly angry about this? or am I just interpreting things wrong? Also, is this your goodbye to the fandom? Because I'd really hate to see that happening. ;.;

Hey, sorry for being so abrupt this morning. I had somewhere to be but still wanted to put my 2 cents in.

That said, yes I meant it but I could have worded it more nicely. COE, the deaths of Ianto, Tosh, and Owen, and Jack sacrificing Stephan killed TW for me. I read fanfiction but can't even watch my DVDs any more. I stopped reading the books and listening to the plays also. I had no desire to see Miracle Day either.

As to River, she annoyed me the few times I've seen her. I can't get into her.

Oh and I'm an soon to be senior woman. Lol

I so agree with you on every point. I would add that RTD also managed to ruin Doctor Who for me, after decades of being a fangirl. Never did see the last of the Tennant episodes and am still not that interested in watching the newest Doctor despite RTD being gone.

I have to admit, living in the US, I didn't get to see many of the previous Doctors. Could be why Tom Baker (4th Doctor) is my favorite. I didn't care for RTD's 9th Doctor - too moody. 10 was too emo. I did see the last 2 episodes of Tennent's Who. He was so whiny about "dying", and having to see his Companions before he "died" was boring. Also his closure with Jack was just plain stupid. I have not seen any of the 11th Doctor because I feel he's too young. Looks like he should still have acne.

Sometimes I even question if I'm really a Torchwood fan. I didn't like Owen or Jack really, hated Gwen. The one that drew me to TW was Ianto and later hoped to see more of him and Tosh. Now, I'm a complete Janto girl. I won't even read them with someone else. Jack, I think, was ruined by bad writing. He was a Time Agent, he fought in many wars, including WWI and WWII here on Earth. Small Worlds showed that he lead his own squadron, and it was said or suggested that he actually became a real Captain in the RAF at one point. To see him not leading his team and letting them get away with so much, especially Gwen and her unprofessionalism and just plain immaturity, was very disheartening. I think RTD and Julie Gardner actually did more harm than good when they were actively doing anything with the show.

I have to say I found 1965 Jack to be unrealistic as Jack had proven time and time again to be "human" and "to have a heart". Why, after so many decades, was the year 2000 when Jack decided to act in a way the Doctor would approve? Why wasn't he trying to make a difference before 2000 if the 21st century was when everything changed? Why was he so blind to what Suzie was doing? Why was he blindsided with the cyberwoman when he lives in the Hub? Why didn't he go through Gwen's records before he hired her, and what skills did she bring to TW because I never saw any? For a conman, he was very easily manipulated.

River could definitely give Jack a run for his money, just like she does the Doctor, and their their adventures, whether across the worlds or in some sort of resurrected Torchwood, would be EPIC, in every sense of the word. I'm on board for this in whatever shape it could be made to happen!

I like her idea. I'd be happy to have River and Captain Jack go off on adventures and even do "couply" things. I loved seasons 1 and 2 of Torchwood but I'm not betting the farm it will be possible to bring that back and as one other person commented, it might be time to show the omni-part of Jack's sexuality and let him have a relationship w/a female and perhaps an alien. I'd prefer to have this take place far in the future so I won't have to worry about more damage to the Torchwood I came to love.

I really don't want to see more of Gwen and it would be natural that two-hundred years on she wouldn't be around. With River or others Jack could fondly remember his Torchwood team and Owen, Tosh, and Ianto might even make cameo appearances in flashbacks.

I'd love it if, in a new series with River, Jack voiced his evolved realization that Gwen betrayed him too often to be remembered fondly or with love.

Those Two Missing Years

What I would love would be a "Time Agency" spin off where what we first learn is Jack's missing 2 years (before he left/became a con man/became immortal) was when the agency recruted Ianto and in a timey whimey way (something very River like) the missing years would send jack on the path that would make Jack meet Ianto in the 21st (before the agency had faked Ianto's death). then fast forward Jack, John, River a few other interesting characters(an alien perhaps?) would then make up the series
