An interesting review of TW history and MD - http://welshtv.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/torchwood-what-went-wrong.html

Here's the bit about Gwen Super Cooper:

'Miracle Day' reduced the once masterful alpha-male Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) to a weakened, barely-visible character playing a very definite second fiddle to an unconvincing Rex Matheson (Mekhi Pfifer), whilst 'family wife' and ex Cardiff policewoman Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) suddenly became a Welsh Lara Croft, complete with Hollywood designer clothing & unbelievable new confidence - even when out of Wales!

Hmmm... think this blogger is on to something? It's looking more and more like there will be no more Gwenwood (and btw - HUB 7 will be the last TW con).

Now this part surprised me (if it's true):
It later transpired that Starz, the US network which partnered BBC Wales was not exactly the neutral co-funder we were initially told to expect. Indeed - they took an active interest in the storyline, and insisted on subtle changes and re-takes. Russell T. Davies was said to be 'cross' when Starz insisted CIA agent Rex Matheson not only survive Miracle Day, but end up an immortal character, like Jack Harkness.

Between RTD and STARZ, it looks like they killed the proverbial goose. If you take a show so far from its origins that it becomes unrecognizable, eventually you don't need anyone from the original show, including any of the cast or the Show Runner. In fact, you don't need the show at all. You can bring it back and call it 'Rex Matheson, Immortal CIA Agent' for all it resembles TW.

Also - note that RTD is working on a new BBC show back in the UK. I don't know anything about his partner's prognosis (and I hope he has a full recovery), but regardless, it doesn't look like he'll be coming back to the US anytime soon. And if the above information is true, why would he want to? It won't be that final story he want to write for Gwen Super Cooper and that's what he's said he'd be interested in. Can't say I'm shedding any tears over this.

So it's on to new shiny stuff for RTD- Wizards & Aliens - sounds a bit familiar to me. Whatever.

I guess you didn't see this?!

This was a link next to the article that you pointed out.

http://welshtv.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/david-duchovny-to-in-us-torchwood-movie.html

Apparently there is talk of a Torchwood movie with "Both David (Mulder) Duchovny & Anthony (Psycho) Perkins have been suggested to play the lead character, described by Carter as 'an immortal, timeless Captain, lost & out of his own time zone'. Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) has been suggested as his 'partner & soul mate - a character who keeps the Captain's feet firmly planted on Earth'." Chris Carter of X-Files fame is interested in writing it.

Carter said something about it being part of the DW world but not about DW himself.

Er, surely this is a joke? David Duchovny is over 50 and Anthony Perkins is dead. Article is a joke. I don't find it funny but obviously some folk will.

This article should have been posted today as it is obviously someone's idea of an April Fools.

Sooo....While everyone said that the show wouldn't change for going to America, it TOTALLY did!!!

Colour me shocked.

Nah, in all reality I understand why Starz wouldn't want RTD to have the full reigns on this project, what with all the money and risks they've got running on it. I suppose it's one of the dangers of working with a channel that pays you to make a series, they want input.

Thing is, I keep getting the feeling that Torchwood was some kind of cheap bargaining chip. You know, the BBC wasn't going to continue it anyway, but figured they could still make some money off it. Starz wanted a deal with the Beeb (they got it too, as was announced near the end of MD's run) and figured "What the hell, we'll do you another season of that show to solidify our business relationships".

Now that Miracle day has 'worked' meaning it brought in viewers for Starz and merchandise for the BBC, they can happily let it slide in every direction. Starz wants a show with Rex Matheson super-agent? sure, let's do that. They don't even need to include RTD or EM or JB.

Haven't heard anything about RTD's partner, but(and that all depends on the size and type of tumour of course)if he's getting temozolomide, he'll be treated for six months to about a year. given that the news was brought out begin december(after 30 days of chemo) and RTD mentioned six months, I'd say it's unlikely he's already done with the treatments. hopefully though, the man will be done by June or July.

If and when Davies goes back to work, I can't imagine him going back to Torchwood, not when he was just planning to go back into drama-tv again.

RTD is allegedly doing a magic and mystery show with BBC Cymru- what's the betting it has a certain Welsh actress in the lead role?
When are the BBC going to wise up to him, oh WHEN?
OTOH maybe it will be in Welsh and then we have a good excuse to ignore it completely.
