http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/07/25/torchwood-miracle-day-viewing-inches-up-in-third-episode/98830/

On Friday, the 10pm telecast of Torchwood: Miracle Day averaged 636,000 viewers, up 4% from last week’s 609,000. The 11pm encore scored another 382,000, up from last week’s 367,000. So this week’s Friday episodes combined for 1.018 million viewers versus last week’s 976,000. 4% up is better than 4% down. I don’t have much demographic information (not that it really matters for premium cable channels anyway), but the 10pm telecast had a 0.2 rating with adults 18-49.

No very impressive in my eyes. When I see that Warehouse 13, which reminds me very much of the Torchwood of good old days, at SyFy has over 2 million viewers with one airing. It's probaly not quite correct to compare SyFy and Starz as surely SyFy has more subscribers but as the intention of bringing TW to Starz surely was to get new subcribers I still think they have failed completely.

Not Supernatural - not my kind fo show, but I'm definetely of to watch Warehouse 13 now for 3 reasons: 1.) It's a show which combines humor with action and it's not all biiiig drama, 2.) It added a gay character when TW killed one, 3.) GDL will have a guest appereance in the current season.

I only started to watch it recently, was reluctant to watch it because it sounded so much like Torchwood and I knew I just would compare and there would be no Ianto. But now I rather watch Gareth in W13 then in Miracle Crap. I love Ianto back but somehow I'm glad he isn't involved in this shit.

Just watched this weeks episode ist was so hilarious. Made me laugh all the time and that's the feeling I want in front of my tv not to feel sad and depressed afterwards (RL has enough of that). I just hope Gareth's episode will air soon.

Oh yeah, that is my fear, too. Or bringing Ianto back and killing Jack instead, so that he would send the Jack/JB-fans in a frenzy against the Ianto/GDL-fans.

You too, huh? Because I switched from being a Torchwood fan to a GDL fan some time ago, and I'm afraid that if he were in it, I'd watch it regardless. I'd love Ianto back in Torchwood, but not while RTD is in charge of it.

The Torchwood I loved very much dead in Exit Wounds and got the last blow in COE. I'm quite a fan of JB, too, but I don't watch MD just for him. If Gareth would be there, too, I most likely would have watched but I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it. I wouldn't have liked COE if Ianto hadn't died. It still remains crap and Gwenwood. So, I pretty much reached the point, were I follow RTDs advice and move on. Moved on to other shows.

Yeah, this is one major failing, especially if you look at the 0.2 ratings...which is quite frankly pathetic considering the fact that Camelot never went below 0.4 and Spartacus ended with 0.8 rates. 1 is the highest a show can get.

I'm going to be paying attention to Warehouse 13 for a bit now, it looks exactly like the quirky funny torchwood that I loved. Hell, I always imagined that Torchwood 2 would look something like that.

My guess is that like the doctor who news page, RTD will ONLY focus on the good parts. Sure the second episode sucked on it's first try, but hey, the reruns did get in a LOT more viewers and it's doing absolutely great on the BBC...

sure guys, who are you kidding.

But the people at Starz will not only look at the good. They want that the show pays off and for that the need satiesfied subscribers. And the second money question is how well will MD sell to other contries. The channel who run TW so far here in Germany f.e. recently answered a friend of mine of a question when the will air MD that the have no current plans at all. COE was aired a couple of weeks behind the UK. The least succesful MD is in the US the lesser are the chances to sell the rights for good money in other contries. The good ratings in the UK can't pay alone for the costs.

I doubt Starz would care how well it is going on the BBC. BBC viewers are not Starz subscribers and won't help Starz' ratings.

The only thing about the UK that Starz would be interested in, as far as I can imagine, is the additional DVD and merchandise sales. Which would be higher if a lot of people in the UK would watch it.

There's a big but in there though, I don't think that Torchwood has a lot of people who want the merchandise, after all, RTD gave it his best to drive the fans to other shows. Like I mentioned in the next thread, BBC one had 4.2 million people watching Traffic cops, and I don't think many of them have bought the DVD (hell, Amazon doesn't even have the series on stock)

If they would have been smart TPTB would have been nice to the fans, understanding for their protests and grieve and keep the classic TW alive with books, comics etc. So they could have still earend money from TW stuff. But the way they insulted the fans, especially RTD did, at least my reaction was: I'm not bying anythinw TW anymore, not even if Ianto is in it. I just took the money I would have spent on the books or audios since COE and bought something from Gareth's band Blue Gillespie or from CAsimri Project, the independent movie he was supporting.

I doubt that many of the Starz viewers will fall into the categry of devoted fan. They are watching because they have subscribed to the channel anyway and it's on it. But they wont buy a lot of stuff. I guess the BBC viewers still have dedicated fans amongst them, especially JB-fans but if that's enough to safe the sales - I have my doubts.

TV by the Numbers has called for the fan excuse bingo cards, which most times is as good a prediction for cancellation as anything. The regular posters on that site following the ratings game like it's a sport, they're almost always right when the predict a show's demise.
