I just wanted to ask those who follow MD, what are the odds that Jack is going to be killed this season (permanently)? Were there any rumors about it?

I mean, they already killed of all the characters that were more popular than Gwen (including Myfanwy), the last one remaining is Jack. Now that he is mortal, that would be quite the opportunity for Gwenwood, right?

I've heard people speculating, but nothing concrete.
After what I've seen of MD, I kind of hope they do (or he just beams up to an intergalactic cargo ship a la CoE)... perhaps then he can go and join GDL on Warehouse 13 (just seen the trailer and announcement that he's got a guest part)!!

House of the Dead has a suicidal Jack. And there is lots of foreshadowing there (but that could mean Ianto's death, too).

There is that foreshadowing at the end of "Submission" as well, with Jack saying that he can never have a final act because he's not mortal. Between that and the suicidal Jack we saw in "House of the Dead"...

I suppose anybody would be suicidal if they were in Jack's position and being given the chance to finally die and rest in peace, I think nobody can refuse him.

Now, what scares me is if they'll somehow manage to transfer his immortality to Gwen. That way we would never get rid of her.

Well, put together that Jack is mortal and everyone else is immortal, you kinda get the feeling he's not long for the world. And the foreshadowing...some of it's so subtle it's like getting hit with a sledgehammer IMO.

At least, that's what I've heard. I refuse to watch MD at all.

The only information I have about MD comes from this community, as I can't be bothered to watch it either. But even the little bits I've read about were enough to start the speculations.

Hopefully, if he does die it will be done quickly and without hysterics. I can just imagine Gwen screaming at Jack 'how can you do this to me?', she is just so good with her empathy/human point (or whatever her superhero special abilities, that nobody else could do, are this season).

Erm... I believe he will come close a few times by the looks of the new trailer but no I don't think he will die. I think other major characters will.

Lots of speculation indeed! JB is saying that he wants to do another five series of Torchwood, but hasn't moved to LA like Eve Myles has. He is also very much jammering about how he would like to come back to Doctor Who. RTD says he has one more story to tell about GWEN, not Torchwood, not Jack, just Gwen.

JB can only keep up playing an immortal for so long, what with him aging, Jack is mortal NOW, so if it ever happens...the only way they could truly finally get rid of him would require mortality. RTD wanted Excalibur, Jack wasn't a part of that, The BBC refused, so the captain and JB became the jumpingboard for a not too spectacular story with some other unknown actors.

these are the reasons why people suspect Jack is going to kick it. RTD has his new series, with well-known actors and Gwen...he doesn't really need JB/jack anymore, or at least, if he doesn't care about fans he won't. Honestly, If I were you, I'd be more worried about the show being canceled completely, what with the ratings.

In other news, I am so happy GDL is in Warehouse 13, it's just the type of quirky scifi show that Torchwood was, so yeah, hoping for a big role XD.

I was beginning to wonder lately if JBs talk about how much he loves to paly Jack in the future are already some plea to has fans to fight for his return if neccessary. But I don't see him not moving to LA as a sign of Jack's demiss. I think this rather has something to do with the singer/entertainer/theatre actor part of his carreer. He wouldn't have the chances to do his own tv-show and panto and tour and all this stuff in the US. he's not famous enough to get such offers. in UK he's the big star, so he wants to keep this. Also his civil partnership could be a reason. He would not have the same rights in most parts of the US like he has in UK.

I ever found EMs move to the US quite optimistic btw. Guess she thinks MD will catapult her into stardom and offers for other parts will roll in en masse. Fear she would be disppaointed soon. I really don't see her in any way fitting the requierements Holylwood asks of his leading ladies. he lacks the talent and the looks.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about Torchwood anymore. I haven't watched since Day 5, and I watched that only because I believed that Ianto would come back, somehow. I didn't know at that time that the authors don't care at all about what the fans like and want.

I was just feeling sorry for John, this was supposed to be his show. To just be pushed aside like this ...

After his appearance he bought a house outside the LA metro area, so he *kind of* has moved to LA (but it's too far out to commute daily). I don't see him moving here on a permanent kind of basis, because his relationship with Scott isn't legally recognized in most areas of the US.

Plus there was that interview (Radio Times I think) were Eve said they are planning to start shooting S5 in November... Well JB has concerts and then Panto in November/December.

Personally I hope they'll kill him off, I'm sick of how they bend and destroyed his once great character for the Gwenshow.

Then I guess they've already got financing in place. I'm sure Starz isn't going to commit to paying for a second season until it takes a good hard look at the number of new subscribers that TWMD brings in. (Viewer numbers aren't nearly as important as new subscribers to a subscription cable service.)

i am waiting for the leak just before(remeber all the rumors about ianto just before coe that were confirmed just before episode 4 when a copy of the coe dvd was released by accident) with the awesome finding some way to drive the knife into janto fans one last time. i am so angry the more i think about the jane espenson remarks that the hope that jack soon joins ianto/tosh/myfanwy/owen cannot happen soon enough to spared anymore of the amazingsaintbloodygwen.

I'm still not sure that the DVD that was released early was an accident. Considering that the DVDs were pre-ordered by the hard-core fans, I think that HMV started sending them out because they were too scared of the mass cancellations they would get after Day 4 was aired. Considering that I saw CoE DVDs selling for just a few pounds that autumn I am sure they did realise the discs are not worth more then the material they were made off and tried to make the most out of it.

Personally I hope that Jack does die, he wanted to be Ianto in the House of the Dead. Plus, he will escape Gwen that way...his only way to get away from her.

On the reality side John has more talent than to be relegated to Eve's sidekick and he can find something better to do than the way these shows are heading.

Absolutely! He must be more gracious than I am, surely he's noticed he's no longer the star/lead of the show? If it was me I'd be pissed off. It's all about Gwen now, and he's been used the whole while in persuit of Gwenwood. If he still wants to do TW he must really love paying CJ. If it was me, I'd be in total favor of my character being killed off so I could be free to do other projects.

I'm guessing that RTD will continue to be a complete arse and have a cliff-hanger at the end of the final episode of this season where it LOOKS like Jack gets killed --- but we just won't KNOW.

And as usual they will make us wait another TWO YEARS for a next season, if there is one, to find out - which means, in the meantime Jack will not be able to make any guest appearances on DR WHO, as we are hoping he will because Mr Moffett says he'd like to have him come back and visit.
