According to tvtropes the martystu( I call him that because the promotional material would not shut up about him be "the embodiment of the American dream", and "the man everbody wants to be like") makes reference to sexual tension between Jack and Gwen. Ship teasing two episodes in... lovely. Did they time this so that episode would air right after The House of the Dead?

I think he said they bickered like an old married couple or somesuch...The grapevine mentioned that Jack told her absolutely dicksquad about where he's been and if he's okay now (Gwen, the man lost his lover and killed his own grandson a year ago, No he's NOT okay, stop asking) So that tells me how much Jack really trusts Gwen and sees her as a friend.

Gwack is stillborn, a flight of fancy on RTD's part. The man can't even bring the UST to the screen properly. I'm pretty sure no-one in the audience would actually recognized it if it weren't for the fact that they are main characters of the opposite sex. We're so damn used to seeing male and female leads getting together, that some people automatically assume it's going to be that. Turn Gwen into a man and all of the sudden you've got the Familyman taking care of his single buddy/brother. Take her out of the lead role and you've got Jack's sidekick who he just works with.

Yeaah, Someone out there is also believes that wearing a tin foil hat will prevent aliens from probing his ass, he probably posted about it on the internet as well. That does not mean that the aliens will come and stick stuff up our butts if we don't wear the hats.

Just saying, one of those interviews with EM, JB and RTD is enough reason to put UST on Tvtropes, but it simply isn't there in the series.

If you are active on the Tvtropes page and can verify that Rex said they were like an Old Married Couple, maybe you could add that Old married couples generally don't have Unresolved Sexual Tension. Most long time spouses resolved their sexual tension a while ago and are quite content with their relationship or they have tension towards each other that isn't exactly sexual.

Tbh... I have watched both episodes of MD unfortunately and I don't actually see Jack mooning over her for once. I see Jack getting stability from her. I don't like Gwen but it does seem for once that Gwen and Rhys are helping Jack through a tough time. Jack seems in a different place than what he usually is and Gwen is just keeping him grounded.

This series it does seem more like a brother and sister relationship or a best friend relationship rather than a romantic attachment.

From: [identity profile] hydrojen90.livejournal.com

I agree with you here, I don't see it at all. I see Gwen and Rhys in a very stable relationship with a kid and Jack wanting to preserve that. I think he seemed quite protective of them; as you said, the brother and sister relationship.

From: [identity profile] distortedenigma.livejournal.com

Yeah, the plane scene especially saw this. Jack want's to protect Gwen, Gwen want's to protect Jack and the only way they can do that isby keeping close. Also the fact that Jack's now mortal and Gwen immortal plays a massive part in the change in them both. I think Jack now understand why Gwen sees him in a heroic and fairytale way. If you get what I mean.

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

Well, that's RTD's mission in life completed then. Having Jack seeing Gwen in the heroic and fairytale way. By the way, why should immortality turn someone into a hero? logically speaking, it doesn't change who they are at heart. I'd be more impressed with a mortal doing something gutsy (mind you, gutsy isn't necessarily heroic) than an immortal. Then I'd just be "well yeah pffft, but you're immortal"

I'm just curious, how did the scenes portray this understanding? Since I can't bring myself to watch the crap (That's right, I'm judging it without ever seeing it...Because RTD wanted me to watch it and/or shut up, I'm going to do neither, yes I am petty, why do you ask?) I'm relying on the specifics here, on Television without pity, tv-tropes and other stuff I can get my hands on.

ps. If I sound bitchy, that's RL fault. I am really just curious about it and all the rantsyrants are aimed at RTD and stuff

From: [identity profile] distortedenigma.livejournal.com

Im not backing RTD up at all... I hate the man... It's sort of and understanding between Jack and Gwen. Jack now understands how Gwen feels. Gwen at risk of loosing Jack but now Jack can see what it is like to have the security of someone being immortal. I think aas the series progresses Gwen is going to realise more of the risk Jack feels because everyday is a challenge for him with everyone else being mortal usually. It's almost like a weight has been lifted of Jack's shoulders but I know that it will soon change and reality will set in. There are probably going to be moments between Jack and Gwen that I won't be able to bear but at the moment it's rather nice. I'm probably making no sense but you can just see it when you watch.

No, thanks. I don't want to watch pod!Jack (nothing to do with the original character at all) getting all touchy-feely with the most insensitive bitch on television. Besides, Gwen wouldn't understand anything, even if it bit her in the arse. She's not wired that way.

Now, this must all look very nice if one doesn't know what Torchwood was supposed to be (even with the Gwenninator to mess everyone's life up beyond repair). But since I know who the characters used to be, I won't buy this neutered (Jack) and bloated (Gwen) version of them, just to make the Rustoid happy.

Sorry if I sound aggressive - it's not against you. It's against the sneaky attempt to make us buy into the Rustoid's scheme. Well, I for my part ain't buying.

For me, Torchwood died with Tosh and Ianto. I didn't even watch CoE beyond the scenes of Ianto with his sister's family, and I sure as hell won't watch Miracle Shit, even if Hungarian TV would prove idiotic enough to show it.

This is *not* Torchwood. This is RTD building a show around the Gwenninator, and I'm sorry, but I'm not interested.

Actually, "neutered" - that's very good definition of this new Jack. He is too meek, not at all like the Captain Jack Harkness we knew. So far this is very much Gwen and Rex show, very Gwenwood. Jack pushed to the background in order to make Gwen seem like wise and experienced Torchwood agent.

logically speaking, it doesn't change who they are at heart. I'd be more impressed with a mortal doing something gutsy

Which is why the rest of the team taking risks to save someone always came across as braver than if Jack had done it. Like Ianto distracting the cannibals so that Tosh could get away in "Countrycide". He must have known that there was a good chance he'd be dead before she could return with the others, but he did it anyway. If Jack had done something similar, it wouldn't feel nearly as impressive.

New Torchwood like a oncoming train wreck. So awful, yet can't look away and have to watch. Fortunately, I watch in other ways so they can't use my viewing against me.
I feel really sorry for Jack. He's stuck with Gwen away from Rhys, she'll be all over him when he's feeling better, then he will be sick again.

You can resist, I know it! We changed from cable to satellite and the satellite company gave Starz to us as part of the package we bought. I haven't seen it, haven't wanted to see it, and refuse to see it.

From: [identity profile] littleatem.livejournal.com

I have the most basic of cable. I saw it online via youtube. I think that by the second episode there should have been aliens. Seeing the lack of them, not even a mention, made me realize this is not Torchwood. Sorry Starz you really did pick up a bomb with this one.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

According to something I read with RTD, he said that there were not going to have aliens; and something else with JB, he said sci-fi didn't have to have aliens in order to be science fiction. So I wouldn't count on there being any aliens in MD.

From: [identity profile] satanassa.livejournal.com

Oh ha ha RTD, how clever you are.
It's true, you don't NEED to have aliens in a sci-fi story. But this isn't just any sci-fi, this is supposed to be Torchwood, which (originally at least) was about an organisation which protected humans against alien threats. Torchwood without aliens is like '2001 A Space Odyssey' without the inter-planetary travel.

From: [identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com

Indeed, you can - and I'm not only speaking because - hopefully - Hungarian TV would stay away from Miracle Shit. They showed the whole "reimagined" Galactica series, and I haven't watched it on principle; because they, too, raped my beloved characters beyond recognition.

Instead, I dug out the poorly recorded videos of the original and re-watched them with relish. That's what I'm gonna do with Torchwood, too - and at least here I'll have quality DVDs.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

I couldn't watch the new Galactica either. My husband did but said that it was confusing and if you didn't watch every episode you would get lost.

From: [identity profile] michael-the-car.livejournal.com

Just something to consider...

The House of the Dead was broadcast on Weds afternoon, and I have already read several fanfics based around it.

Miracle Day was broadcast Thurs evening, and I think I can count on one hand the fanfic around.

If nothing else, it demonstrates the fans that RTD so despises have made their choice which TW they prefer.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

But if the immortal Gwen receives a fatal injury like Rex, her temporary immortality won't save her when things are put right. So she will remain the Teflon Bitch and nothing life threatening will happen to her.

From: [identity profile] ella-caramella.livejournal.com

Exactly. Why couldn't she end up like the burned to a crisp guy without a head from ep. 1? Being incapacitated? Walking around with her head at 180°?

Somehow I don't see anything ever going to happen to the Teflon One. Jack poisoned and having to turn green and to vomit on display? Nope, she's not even going to get that.

From: [identity profile] kamiandcat.livejournal.com

Hell no, we would end up with a headless corps trying to cooooommmmmfort everone... (while groping Jack all the time) and a head that never shuts up until somebody....wait HOW sure are we that Crusty won't make cupcake the FoB??? O.o

From: [identity profile] littleatem.livejournal.com

Do you really want the Doctor going to Gwen for advice? Course, with Rusty he will say that Jack names Gwen FoB to commemorate her brilliance. I swear, no matter what happens, Rusty will put Gwen on a pedestal whether it's with her body or not.

From: [identity profile] jennelldhalrbj.livejournal.com

I may have said this before but we have a headless Gwen doll at home. If anyone wants to see it I can take it's photo. My oldest two made a movie in which Gwen was partly eaten by a weevil. It was very enjoyable and made my 3 year old want a toy weevil. In my opinion Gwen really needs to be headless. That would be worth seeing.

From: [identity profile] mscatmoon.livejournal.com

Well, it's not like she really needs her head. She doesn't use her brain for anything, I don't think she'd miss it.

From: [identity profile] janto-forever81.livejournal.com

here is a woman who can't have enough man.. now Jack & Gwen sexual tension there was a talk about Rex & Gwen sexual tension anybody else left perhaps Pedo Danes & Gwen sexual tension.. jeez...

From: [identity profile] satanassa.livejournal.com

Yeah, Peado Danes will be attracted to Gwen's child-like purity of heart!

From: [identity profile] littleatem.livejournal.com

Gwen's heart is pure? With all the men that she's been with/going after, I can't believe that. Her child-like naivety though... Peado and Gwennie will be a perfect match, he wants her for her child-like tendencies and she will want him so that she can change him into a better person (now please excuse me while I go laugh my head off at the mental image). At least it will make her leave Jack alone for a while, since Danes will need her "full" attention.
