According to tvtropes the martystu( I call him that because the promotional material would not shut up about him be "the embodiment of the American dream", and "the man everbody wants to be like") makes reference to sexual tension between Jack and Gwen. Ship teasing two episodes in... lovely. Did they time this so that episode would air right after The House of the Dead?

Gwack is stillborn, a flight of fancy on RTD's part. The man can't even bring the UST to the screen properly. I'm pretty sure no-one in the audience would actually recognized it if it weren't for the fact that they are main characters of the opposite sex. We're so damn used to seeing male and female leads getting together, that some people automatically assume it's going to be that. Turn Gwen into a man and all of the sudden you've got the Familyman taking care of his single buddy/brother. Take her out of the lead role and you've got Jack's sidekick who he just works with.

Just saying, one of those interviews with EM, JB and RTD is enough reason to put UST on Tvtropes, but it simply isn't there in the series.

This series it does seem more like a brother and sister relationship or a best friend relationship rather than a romantic attachment.

I'm just curious, how did the scenes portray this understanding? Since I can't bring myself to watch the crap (That's right, I'm judging it without ever seeing it...Because RTD wanted me to watch it and/or shut up, I'm going to do neither, yes I am petty, why do you ask?) I'm relying on the specifics here, on Television without pity, tv-tropes and other stuff I can get my hands on.
ps. If I sound bitchy, that's RL fault. I am really just curious about it and all the rantsyrants are aimed at RTD and stuff

Now, this must all look very nice if one doesn't know what Torchwood was supposed to be (even with the Gwenninator to mess everyone's life up beyond repair). But since I know who the characters used to be, I won't buy this neutered (Jack) and bloated (Gwen) version of them, just to make the Rustoid happy.
Sorry if I sound aggressive - it's not against you. It's against the sneaky attempt to make us buy into the Rustoid's scheme. Well, I for my part ain't buying.
For me, Torchwood died with Tosh and Ianto. I didn't even watch CoE beyond the scenes of Ianto with his sister's family, and I sure as hell won't watch Miracle Shit, even if Hungarian TV would prove idiotic enough to show it.
This is *not* Torchwood. This is RTD building a show around the Gwenninator, and I'm sorry, but I'm not interested.

Which is why the rest of the team taking risks to save someone always came across as braver than if Jack had done it. Like Ianto distracting the cannibals so that Tosh could get away in "Countrycide". He must have known that there was a good chance he'd be dead before she could return with the others, but he did it anyway. If Jack had done something similar, it wouldn't feel nearly as impressive.

I feel really sorry for Jack. He's stuck with Gwen away from Rhys, she'll be all over him when he's feeling better, then he will be sick again.

It's true, you don't NEED to have aliens in a sci-fi story. But this isn't just any sci-fi, this is supposed to be Torchwood, which (originally at least) was about an organisation which protected humans against alien threats. Torchwood without aliens is like '2001 A Space Odyssey' without the inter-planetary travel.

Instead, I dug out the poorly recorded videos of the original and re-watched them with relish. That's what I'm gonna do with Torchwood, too - and at least here I'll have quality DVDs.

The House of the Dead was broadcast on Weds afternoon, and I have already read several fanfics based around it.
Miracle Day was broadcast Thurs evening, and I think I can count on one hand the fanfic around.
If nothing else, it demonstrates the fans that RTD so despises have made their choice which TW they prefer.

Somehow I don't see anything ever going to happen to the Teflon One. Jack poisoned and having to turn green and to vomit on display? Nope, she's not even going to get that.
