I'm all for the evolution of marriage and anything related, but poor Rhys!! If he had any contact with the outside world, his buddies would be harping on him about taking Gwen's last name. Poor guy just can't catch a break, can he?

On another note, look how far down the list Kai is!! If I remember correctly, he was in all the same scenes as Eve was and was a previous cast member but he's still near the bottem of the cast list...

The Feminist in me is going: if a guy wants to take his wife's name, that's totally fine by me, since we do it vica versa every day. Generally I'm a big fan of people keeping their own last name.

But the liberalist in me feels cheated by this notion. It was never discussed in the series itself, never any Amy/Rory jokes about how Rhys was a Cooper or Gwen a Williams. There is a vague memory in my head that Gwen might have said she was going to keep the Cooper. But overall, I recall her very clearly being mrs. Williams in Something Borrowed and then somehow being Cooper in the next episodes again.

Rhys taking her name literally never happened on the show (it can't be to stay undercover, I reckon there are about as much Rhys Williamses as there are Coopers). This feels like they are trying to up Gwen in the good wife role by making it look like she took her husbands name for the new viewers and demasculating him further to the old fans. OR it's a REALLY REALLY lazy mistake on the writers behalf. On IMDB he is still Rhys Williams.

I'm not sure if he's a redshirt, I think it would go under the category of "you don't rape snowwhite" as RTD put it. It would cause serious harm to Gwen, therefore cannot be done. I can see Rhys walking out and asking for a divorce or somesuch, though. Most likely, he's just being suppressed to make Gwen more important.

I think its just a LULZ error. Personally, I don't think he'll get killed because that would hurt her and she is untouchable.

Actually, in "Something Borrowed" Gwen says she'll only let Owen put her under the microtron (to remove the alien egg) after she's become Mrs. Williams. But we all know there's no canon in Dr. Who. Or in TW. Or in anything the Rustoid has his grubby paws in.

BTW, what makes you think that killing off Rhys would cause serious harm to the Gwenninator? After all, she has her Twu Wub back, and pod!Jack would so sweetly comfort her after her terrible loss. *excuse me while I throw up*

So what do they do? Gwen hides herself by changing ID??? Nope, even her hubby takes her surname!

Rhys must have considered it the lesser evil. Found out and being killed by the big meenies, I mean. Imagine living with Gwen on the countryside... *shudders*

As for the baby: does it matter what her surname is? She'd be deaf already by now, so she wouldn't hear anyone call her by whatever name. Poor thing. On the bright side, she won't be able to hear her Mam's inane drivel, either, so it's probably only half so bad.
