Opinions please. I've been watching the number of reaction and review posts to MD's first episode and in my mind they are underwhelming as compared to prior series.

Over at http://torch-wood.livejournal.com/ the Review post has 5 entries and the Reaction post has 23.

I've stayed mostly spoiler free in my reading so I've not read said posts just checked to see how many there were.

Thoughts, am I crazy or is this as big a viewer bomb as the Starz ad campaign 'bomb'?

It's not only LJ but the Torchwood Forum as well. Only 41 posts in the MD section but they blame the lack of reactions to UK viewers not having seen it yet.

on the other hand, the poll they have running there were 47 votes and only 12 gave MD a 10/10 *g*

I watched it this morning and what a waste it was. I went into the ep. with no expectations and I got even less.

I would have thought there'd've been a lot more posts too. The vast majority of the posts I've seen rated the first ep as "meh".

I think the excuse that the UK viewers haven't seen it yet is a bit specious. IMHO, the majority of the people who'd post online about it would probably have the knowledge of how to view it before it aired on the BBC.

Agreed. Plus, if the US audience is MEH about the show, Starz isn't going to renew it.

From: [identity profile] ruby-took.livejournal.com

Exactly. I don't think the UK audience has any impact on Starz either way, since the series is just being shown on the BBC here, as usual. If Starz want to make money off this, the US audience needs to like it.

And I'm not surprised to hear that so far, nobody seems to be excited. Torchwood used to be this unique, campy, fun show with interesting characters. Now it sounds exactly the same as about 100 other shows, so why would anyone care anymore?

Even though I'm not watching MD, I keep thinking about the first episode of TW season 2 and how it made me go WOW, whereas what I've read about this first episode doesn't spark any interest at all to watch.
And you are exactly right, it sounds like tons of other shows, I want something DIFFERENT, which it used to be.

Wouldn't that be lovely?
It may happen, although it may take time.
I'm really excited about the "reset" Thundercats anime that is going to air on TV soon. (took almost 20 yrs, but that's animation, hoping a TW do-over would be more timely!)

My kids and I loved Thundercats. Now that they are grown-up they still look forward to seeing the new one. We have the old one on dvd.

Yep, their blaming it on TW having more UK viewers and no one seeing it yet. So we'll soon see if that's true or not. I'm in the US, and I saw COE the same night it aired on BBC1. I would think die hard fans wouldn't wait, they'd find a way.

compare the number of posts to the first 3 seasons the place is quiet as a tomb which looks were gwenwood is heading. i remember during coe you had to scroll through pages of reaction posts both pro and con.

The problem with having it on STARZ here in the US is that you have to pay for the channel, you can't simply buy only the show. I watched the show for free on STARZ's website and the best part...was being able to fast forward through the parts that were mainly Gwen.

I've seen it even despite the fact that officially where I live MD won't be aired for a long time yet. So did all my co-fandom friends)) And I'm sure - many not-US viewers saw it too already.
I just don't want to add my voice to any big Reaction/Rewiew posts where Starz can count it and say that MD was huge success because so many people watched it and commented on it.
I better make my reaction/rewiew private, at places I can trust. Though if I can add my voice to the global "MEH" reaction, I totally do so.

Aron {Husbands older brother} sent us a link to watch it here. We started last night after most of our gang were in bed, just Dan, Harry and myself. It was awful. Harry gave up after a half hour and said the movie he and several friends were making in their spare time was better and had better acting.

I couldn't understand most of what Eve said, the black guy can't act and was dying throughout the episode but still managed to run about, and the scenes where he waved his badge and shouted that he was CIA were ludicrous. JB looked much older and the scenes with the baby were disturbing, even though we knew it was mostly a doll.

I gave up before the end and when Dan came to bed he said RTD should be strung up someplace. Bring back the stocks, he suggested. Lots of people who CAN'T DIE shooting at each other. How much sense does that make?

It makes no sense whatsoever, but what else could we expect considering who wrote it?

I decided long ago that I wasn't going to waste my valuable time watching it. Nothing I've heard so far has changed my mind.

Amen, sister. I'll just read the mocking comments here and have fun. Then I'll go back to my notebook and keep writing stories in which Jack is still his old self, Tosh and Ianto are awesome, Owen is alive and the Teflon Tart is making a complete fool of herself (no big effort needed, really) or, what's even better, dies horribly.

She even manages to make a fool of herself in the first of the new radio plays =D

Guess we can blame that on RTD's singleminded obsession with her. To me, Gwen was the one character neither Torchwood the series nor Torchwood the organisation needed. She brought nothing to either - she had no usable skills and she took screentime away from the other, more interesting characters. She's a whiny soap opera character shoe-horned into an SF show where she simply doesn't fit. Someone should tell RTD that the people who watch SF don't need an audience identification figure provided for them, or someone to explain what's going on. We're perfectly capable of figuring things out for ourselves and we don't need telling who to like!

Yeah, it wound up in our DVR and I didn't set it to record and hubby didn't set it to record... Actual conversation:

H: You want to watch that TW thing you recorded?
Me: I'd rather eat paint.
H: Why'd you record it then?
Me: I didn't.
H: Well, I didn't.

So someone broke into our house and recorded it, sigh. One of my FB friends really LOVED it, but NO.

Hope your day has gotten better, :).

That's a horrible thought!
