In the Sunday paper in my state they have a magazine called Parade. In today's issue they have Torchwood Miracle Day in the Parade Picks for television. Why I don't know since they have never had anything about TW before. It has a picture of John Barrowman and Mekhi Phifer and the paragraph underneath reads:

"The cult sci-fi series gets a rousing reboot, with new cast members Bill Pullman, Lauren Ambrose, and Mekhi Phifer (above right, with John Barrowman) and a creepy premise: Suddenly nobody's dying, and that's not a good thing."

Finally, something with no Gwen, no picture of Gwen, no mention of Gwen's family/baby.

Mods, if this is not allowed, please delete.

Well, well, NOW we're adding another layer of schizophrenia to the Miracle day adverts. If Gwen is the frigging main-character or at least the secondary one, shouldn't she be in the ad? shouldn't she be there. Maybe Parade thought she just wasn't very good and decided to leave her out?

So basically, while advertising the greatness of her Gwenness, they are embarrased about her as well?

having made the mistake of reading the comments after an eve interview about why the uk would be getting md a week later i noticed it is the pro-gwen people who keep bringing ianto up. it is though become a fan of gwen and they have joined a cult. while reading one or two rude remarks directed at saint gwen it seemed that most of the venom was aimed at anyone who disagreed with coe was the greatest 'drama' ever made.

Was it this one? because I can't really find any vitriol towards the anti-gwen or even the anti-MD crowd?

For those of you not in the US - parade is a very family oriented insert to many Sunday papers. It generally has highly intellectual articles like "Hannah Montana tells what she learned from her near death experience." Along with recipes, lovely uplifting spiritual pieces and other assorted fluff.

I bet they didn't mention anything about the adult nature of the show. Apparently Starz believes that nothing goes with Miracle Whip better than Midwestern Whitebread TV watchers. This cannot end well, LOL.

>>>This cannont end well. LOL

I have been wondering the same thing...it seems the typicle reader of Parade would be horified to learn Torchwood has both a pedophile and a non straight lead

From: [identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com

Not to mention 2 confirmed explicit sex scenes - one straight and one gay.

From: [identity profile] dvcorvis.livejournal.com

I am not sure if they would have a problem with the straight one...and in a related note I think in the very least we can have a sigh of relief Gwen is not involved

I should have said there are two EXPLICIT sex scenes - they won't be happy with either one (though yes the gay scene will have their heads exploding). After all, think of the children.

Its a very small bit along with other recomendations, like, I kid you not - Dolly Parton's new CD.

Oh, thank you so much for the explanation!

I didn't think that MW could get any worse, but this just proved me wrong. Well, at least they are making a 'good' job of destroying Torchwood, it's apparently the only thing they are good at.

if it's so family oriented, why the fuck isn't Gwen in there? wasn't she supposed to be the loving wife and mother, with her little perfect family....Why show the gay man and the single CIA agent? >.< what the hell are the TW pr doing there, do they really think that it's only the big names that speak to us, instead of the characters themselves?

This is a trainwreck waiting to happen, are they TRYING to get their shock and awe from an audience that wasn't the target anyway?

Yeah, that's the first thing that crossed my mind. The only reason Torchwood needed a reboot was because RTD KILLED ALL THE GOOD CHARACTERS AND DESTROYED THE SET!!!

I saw this, and being familiar with Parade as a weekly Sunday paper insert for more years than I care to own up to I thought it was a chuckle. Not their cup of tea at all, but ad dollars speak volumes.

Yay for Miracle Whip with no mention of Gwen - that MUST be a first !

its in USA right they didn't mention Gwennie may be cause hardly anybody knows her there i mean the actress they can sell Mekhi or JB better after JB in the Desperate Housewives so at least i think those people who read this magazine may know him.. hence no Gwen.. but isn't it Gwenwood & gwen is awesome she is just freaking going to save the world single handedly..

From: [identity profile] stlscape.livejournal.com

I've heard Mekhi was on ER, so he might be known to a wider range of US folks, but, yeah, JB won't be well known at all.

that's grey's anatomy, different hospital series, but points for getting the right category :p.

Wasn't ER huge, like, a couple of decades ago?

I know Noah Wyle is currently the big name on Falling Skies but even I, who never watched ER, know who Wyle is. Phifer... I confess I had never heard of him before MD.

I have never watched ER. I have a lot of kids and am well known to the local clinics and Hospitals for the unfailing regularity one of my kids falls down or sticks something up their nose etc. That's enough medical business for one person, so I had never heard of this Mekhi either. Thus him being in Torchwood Miracle Crap is no lure.

Marcus Welby and Emergency

Man, they don't make 'em like that anymore, do they? They were never-miss viewing in our house. ;)

OK hands up who remembers Dr Kildare???
(Gosh another gay actor.)
Mekhi Phifer played a very unlikeable character in ER, they attempted to inject some humanity and likability into him but the actor (to my way of thinking) failed to pull it off and he died an emotional death that left me thinking...meh.
Another actor in ER who was handed a much less likable character turned it around and became one of the leads- since RTD was not writing for ER- because audiences warmed to him.
This was not Mekhi Phifer- who left me cold I am afraid.

Nobody (read: Gwen) is dying? Gah, that's really not a good thing!
