This full page was from the July 4th issue of People Magazine. It looks like the wonderfulness of Gwenwood isn't getting Starz as many new subscribers as they had hoped.

They are now offering $25 Cash back for new subscribers to Starz. Of course, you'll only get the cash back if you keep Starz for 3 months.

Looking more and more like Rusty sold them the same bill of goods he sold CoE watchers.

And Friday nights at 10 PM in the summer - let's see I could be partying with friends, or at an outdoor concert or stay in and watch Miracle Bomb. Let me contemplate that for a nanosecond. Ok done. Not watching Miracle Bomb.

What does it say that I'd rather watch "Ghost Adventures" than this swill?

From: [identity profile] mscatmoon.livejournal.com

Hey, me too! Stupid as GA is, it's much more entertaining than MD will be. Besides, I think I'm washing my hair that night.

You've got good taste?

Seriously, the more I hear about MD, the worse it sounds - and I say that every time I hear anything new, so I've said it a LOT!

the wall street journal reviewer compared gwenwood to a cross between 24 and the benny hill show. the rest of the review is just as scathing and mocking. if i were rusty i would be worried by the fact starz has just canceled camelot.
avoid the main lj torchwood site thread that starts with 'eve................' if you have high bp.

Did you notice in the article they just named the characters but when it came to her holiness, they described her as "the lovely Gwen Cooper"
Starz must not be holding out a lot of hope for the show considering its on what is considered the death time slot. The slot that, when shows get put there, is considered to be the end of the shows run

From: [identity profile] mscatmoon.livejournal.com

Now they're trying to give it away?! ROFLMAO. Like they did with COE, putting it in a box set with the other series' and charging less than it was to buy S1 or S2 alone. And they're still using that stupid bomb ad?! It's like they're saying, here, it's a bomb, please take it, we'll give you money to watch! That ad is so cheap looking that if I had never heard of TW I still would not be impressed or encouraged to watch.

It's too bad RTD wasn't half as good a writer as he is a con artist. His stuff would be worth watching, then. Now that it's starting to become apparent this new version of TW is crap nobody wants, if we can just get them to see that Gwen is not the star/heart/soul of the show...

From: [identity profile] jennelldhalrbj.livejournal.com

I wont be watching it. Anyhow, I am almost 7 months pregnant with my 8th so I have other things to think about --small things--that need lots of attention.

I feel a bit sorry for Starz. RTD seems to have a way of hypnotizing folk so they think he is great and then they discover what he is really like.

Yeah, you better not watch, you don't want to go into premature labor over the horror of it all.

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

Oh bravo, I love this, everything about this. The poster, where it says that if you want to get your money back, you should call a number or visit starz.com/Torchwood . I suppose it's a way to get new viewers in who will then automatically be added to Torchwood's GRAND SUCCES, while in reality, they might not have watched it at all....But it's good to see they're spending all their money on posting adds in a-list magazines and paying their own customers to watch instead of the plot and characters .

The review was nice, especially since it's coming from a rather reliable source, one who you KNOW has smart rich people, instead dumb people trying to get rich by kissing RTD's ass in the reviews. Wall Street Journal doesn't need the money they'd get from a positive review and that's all Davies is offering nowadays...money.

I especially liked this part

For the thinking viewer, the big reveal of one of the major villains is going to be a groaning letdown too, so familiar and thus lame is the choice of Big Culprit.

1. LIKE, REeL FaNS DoNT THiNK aBUOt THIeR SeRIeS, tHeY JUS LIek, WATCH DUH!

2. Let's see...big letdown, sooo it's the corrupt government again? or perhaps Al'Qaeda.

I love this quote. "the big reveal of one of the major villains is going to be a groaning letdown too, so familiar and thus lame is the choice of Big Culprit"

Is it familiar because we are supposed to know the person? I just read a story on ffn called "Did you Ever Care Or Was I Just There?" It was written by someone named TWIantoJones. (No, it's not me. I can't write. However, I wish it would happen this way. It is also a Jack/Gwen bash.)

I might consider watching it, if I could be sure that above bomb would go off in Gwen stomach this time. Not that even a bomb could kill her, unfortunately, but watching her blow off would be a thing of beauty!

From: [identity profile] milady-dragon.livejournal.com

It they put it in her womb, it wouldn't do any damage at all, since that thing is apparently bomb-proof.

I love that they're calling Gwenwood an original Starz series. This proves that it is not Torchwood. I just wish that John Barrowman would do something more productive than this. I know Torchwood was his baby, but Gwenwood is trying to get rid of him even though he was one of the few reasons people watched Torchwood. Maybe he should be a guest star on Supernatural, their fandom would happily welcome him. :)

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

If they even knew who he was. I just don't think he is as popular as everyone makes him out to be. I never heard of him until I accidently clicked onto BBCA one night and caught Sleeper.

If everything is to be believed, Torchwood was not his baby. It was Excalibur with a woman in charge and RTD couldn't get it sold, until he changed it to Torchwood and put Jack into it.

From: [identity profile] tlen2.livejournal.com

Friday nights is usually considered one of the worst times to air a show because it's the day people like to go out after a week of work, so ratings will not be as high as on other days. I wonder why Starz wasn't able to find a better timeslot for a show they put obviously a lot of money into it and knwo are trying so desperately o sell to the audience. Also read today that Starz will not continue Camelot as ratings and reactions weren't satiesfying enough. Gives me hope the will dump Gwenwood after thi season, too, if TPTB aren't satiesfies with the outcome.

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

to quote wiki it's known as the:

Friday night death slot

This time slot has become increasingly unpopular due to fewer viewers watching television on Friday nights. As such, programs that air on Friday nights tend to lag behind in viewership compared to those on other weeknights, and networks have since programmed inexpensive reality programming or news magazines in this slot instead of scripted programs. As of 2005, CBS is the only network that continues to air a full line-up of scripted programming on Fridays and has had in the last 15 years become successful with this timeslot.

I thought it was amusing and very unfortunate that the ad campaign chose a bomb for the series. Perhaps the ad department were fans of Torchwood.1 rather than the revised Gwenwood.

I've already got Starz and I wouldn't watch no matter what they paid me. I'm not feeding into RTD's ego trip any longer.

From: [identity profile] stlscape.livejournal.com

I couldn't believe the bomb image either - "Hey, guys! Watch my show! It's gonna bomb!" (Population explosion, which is what I'd bet they were alluding to with the bomb visual, didn't even cross my mind.)

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

I don't get it. Does the WSJ like it or not? Some things are complimentary but made me throw up in my mouth (like "the lovely Gwen Cooper"). It also suggests that viewers "don't give up". I liked the terms "campiness" and "Movie-of-the-Week". Not to offend our British friends, but I never thought Benny Hill was funny, just boring.

As to People,I guess they let just anybody buy an ad. Really, how many American know what Torchwood is? At least, not in Central Florida. Then in their TV section, on page 34 they have a picture of Gwen and Anwen (dressed in pink and white with a pink and white blanket and pink and white ear muffs like they use on a shooting range), while Gwen is firing her gun. It says "Eve Myles...gives a big, florid performance that sets the thumpingly pulpy tone."

I think I am going to be sick.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

I looked up florid and I don't think it was used correctly. It sounded like People was complementing her but the definition of florid is:

elaborately or excessively ornamented; inclined to a healthy reddish color often associated with outdoor life

I must still be a bad person. Unless it's the best kept secret in all of television and the internetz and Ianto makes a grand comeback in the first few episodes (I'm giving it three to be fair) then I still hope it falls in a big embarrassing, profitless heap.

*nods*

From: [identity profile] ella-caramella.livejournal.com

The press have already seen the first 3 episodes. I don't expect them to reveal such a big spoiler, if it was the case of a much beloved character's return, but there have been quite a few negative reviews that used descriptions like boring, bad 70s action show, dullest pedo subplot and downright ridiculous (the Benny Hill Show? LOL!) so my take is it's really nothing but an embarrassing pile of stinking sh.. with SuperPooper on top.
