Gwen and Retcon

So, I was thinking about TKKS, and came up with an explanation for why Jack did not fire Gwen for freeing a known serial killer in the middle of an investigation.  He says he's going to, but then at the end of the ep, he's all smiles, and Gwen has a smug look on her face.  It hit me today: 

She retconned him.

What if, every time Gwen messes up, she retcons Jack to save her job?  To the rest of the team, it would appear that Jack shows Gwen massive favoritism, but in reality, he's blameless.

Does anyone know of any fics like that out there?  Or does any one want to use that idea?  I'm not a writer myself, but would love to read a fic like that.  To me, it's the only explanation for her continued presence on the show.

That makes perfect sense. No wonder Jack is always giving her leeway, he has no idea what she did. It also explains why he's coming back to Earth. All those months of continuous retcon has addled his memories so much that he came back to Earth to try to find his team.

Hey, she did it to Rhys, I wouldn't put it past her doing it to Jack.
Their conversation would be as follows:
Gwen - "Have some of your Bourbon... I love you Jack. Please forgive me for endangering everyone" *bats eyelashes*
Jack - *takes a sip* "I don't. You put everyone in danger today, I can't forgive you."
Gwennie - "That's okay Jack, you will forgive me, because I put retcon in your bourbon. Please forgive me!"
Jack - "No." *passes out*

That's certainly plausible, if she did it to Rhys, no reason why she wouldn't extend her lack of morals to retcon Jack as well. It would be an awesome idea for a story, too, I do hope someone writes it! Hey, to add more fuel to the fodder, maybe Ianto could find out about it, only Jack thinks he's jealous and doesn't believe him at first. Then Ianto shows him proof. And then Gwen gets what's coming to her.

I've been operating under the assumption that someone already did, halfway through series two after Torchwood found out he'd been following them around and putting them on telly.

How did I not realise it before? And I bet it's not always just Jack she retcons!

It's probably also why Jack and Ianto's relationship doesn't develop as it should - everytime they take a really significant step forward in their relationship, Gwen retcons them both so they forget it happened.

So not only does she retcon Jack to save her job, but she also retcons him to stunt his relationship with Ianto. Maybe she also retcons Ianto whenever he catches her putting the moves on Jack. That would explain why Gwen and Ianto are so chummy in To the Last Man. He has no idea she's got a crush on Jack!

I dunno. Somehow I doubt that Gwennie-po has the mental abilities to out-smart Ianto. Jack, yes, he's loud and a wee bit self-absorbed, but Ianto is way too sneaky to fall victim to the Gwenninator.
