You know you hate Gwen when you're reading the TV guide and see "... and Gwen is humiliated after her secret is exposed" and you cheer and then realise it's a write-up for a completely different TV show....

...When you choose not to buy a game from a series you sorta enjoyed because EM voiced one of the main characters and the constant sound of Gwen's voice just GRATES on you.

*giggles* Such a shame it isn't a write-up for MD! I might watch to see Gwen utterly humiliated when all the truths about her see the light of day and she can no longer go around expecting people to think she's wonderful and perfect!

You know you hate Gwen when:
You watch a movie called "Pterodactyl" because you think Myfanwy...but then laugh your ass off and cheer because the only thing you like about it is the first death is some chick named Gwen

From: [identity profile] satanassa.livejournal.com

There was actually a movie like that? It sounds like AGA fanfiction brought to screen!

I believe the movie came out before Torchwood it was pretty bad but yeah Gwen gets it!

... when you start off hating one of the lead female characters in "Merlin" before you'd have even seen her, just because she's called Gwen.

From: [identity profile] satanassa.livejournal.com

Yeah, I still can't figure out why 'Guinevere' got turned into 'Gwen'. By the same logic, Arthur should have been called 'Art', Merlin should be called 'Merle' and so on.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the name Gwen became identical with Mary Sue? I mean, both characters fill the criteria just fine.

From: [identity profile] obsessionality.livejournal.com

Oh, oh dear god. A friend of mine watched merlin right after she watched COE (we went on a Beeb Binge) and she refused to go beyond the first ep because of GWEN! As in, EM played a character in episode 1... *facepalm*

Oh! I so did that too!

Admittedly, the Gwen of "Merlin" is an annoying Mary Sue, too. Perhaps it's all the name, eh?

From: [personal profile] jo02

Lol, I have so done this too! Just hearing the name, anywhere, anytime can make me angry. Good job, Eve and RTD.

I'm determined to finish the Merlin/Torchwood crossover in July; signed up to [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo to do so. It gives me the golden opportunity to kill Gwen in a similar manner as the character played by the same actress was killed in the "Merlin" pilot.

Plus, having her see the face of an ugly old witch whenever she looks into a mirror, just like in Merlin, would be an added bonus. *is evil*

woohoo! gwen is the reason why i never watched merlin but if something bad happens to her i will have to watch it.

when you're reading fanfiction and you can see the Gwen-bashing in the story, even if the writer didn't

From: [identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com

Oh, please! Nobody actually needs to *bash* Gwen. Proper characterization will do the job automatically. Just show her as she is, and it happens.

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

There is no Gwen-bashing, Fans can't possibly compete to RTD in making Gwen look worse.

From: [identity profile] blucougar.livejournal.com

Exactly. Real!Gwen is perfectly sufficient without actually resorting to blatant bashing. It's fun to do, though!

From: [identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com

Yeah, why do you think I'm still doing it? Aside from the need to do the other characters justice? ;)

From: [identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com

Oh, yes, indeedly. Plus, it makes me rewatch old episodes and appreciate anew how good Series 1 and 2 were, despite the obvious faults. Torchwood had the format to become really good sci-fi, had it not been the Gwenninator forced down our throats.

"Sleeper", for example, is an episode that never fails to make me either shiver or cry.

From: [identity profile] jsks.livejournal.com

there are several episodes(thank you milady, wiseheart and a few others for the fix it stories) where if there had been less time spent on gwen and more on team torchwood that had the potential to be classic. torchwood had good bones and a great cast but the writing and the constant need to make gwen the center of attenion by rtd doomed the rest of the cast. i kept wishing that we could see more of jack/ianto/tosh/owen and the beauty that is wales. fic writers see far beyond rusty's 'monster' of the week and his gwencentric view of his failed gwenwood,

for me sleeper, out of the rain(writing could have been better but the basic concept is spooky) countryside, adam(the ianto mind rape) cyberwoman(ianto again provides the drama) ghost machine(for the first time i began to see depth to owen) are some of the stand outs for me.

You know you hate Gwen when you have absolutely no interest anymore in TW, yet still must visit the AGA regularly to rant about how much you hate her with like minded souls.

From: [identity profile] littleatem.livejournal.com

Agreed. It also makes everyone else at AGA feel better that there are definitely more gwen-bashers than Gwen-worshipers (emphasis on the 'whore') on the internet.

From: [identity profile] littleatem.livejournal.com

I had a homework assignment to take a page out of a magazine and to draw all over it. I took out Gwen's page from my Torchwood magazine. I had a fun time defacing it in the name of education, if only I was allowed to tear up the page too.

When you worry about the look on your face every time Gwen shows up on the sceen, because your family members think you're unwell.
