Ok so Jack has become mortal which leaves the question; how is this possible if fixed points can never be changed?

I'm leaving the suggestions to you, they can be serious or funny.

Maybe all of Jack's horcruxes have been destoryed?

If Jack becomes mortal, then it causes a great upheaval in time and space, because Jack is supposed to be a fixed point. This implies that the universe turns itself inside out, and events like the deaths of Suzie, Tosh, Owen and Ianto never happened, and Gwen never existed! So we have a wonderful Torchwood with Jack as an intelligent, caring leader, and a cohesive and competent team. And everyone is happy!

Well, quite clearly, Gwen has picked up a piece of Tech she should never have been anywhere near, fiddled with a button she shouldn't have touched, and therefore reversed the polarity of the neutron flows of the entire Universe, placing herself at the center, and rendering lesser beings who might no longer be as blinded to her flaws (Jack, maybe the Doctor), vulnerable, while at the same time making herself an indestructable army of mindless drooling followers, I mean, she knows it works, look what she did to RTD.

See, Jack becomes mortal...and the entire Earth has to become immortal to balance it all out. But Gwen doesn't like that idea, because she knows she's too awesome to die, and so she kills Jack before they can fix things. The universe needs a new fixed point, so they create a new one: Gwen. Because we know the universe is completely screwed up anyway.

But this means Gwen becomes the Face of Boe. I think it would highly amusing and appropriate that she become a really large head in a jar...much more appropriate than Jack, to be honest.

Truly the worst nightmare I can think of, ever -- Gwen immortal.

Maybe that's why RTD described MD awhile back as a 'fantasy.' So he doesn't have to be bothered to try and come up with a logical/plausible reason why Jack is mortal now. Or why Gwen should be popular and immortal.
Psst... I think there's a unicorn behind me.

Ah so the Rustoid finally acknowledged that he needs LSD to write plotlines! :/ yeah, well, I'm not susceptible to the "it's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit!". But who knows, if it's all just a fantasy, maybe Jack'll wake up at the end of it and find himself living happily with Ianto while Tosh and Owen are alive...also, Gwen was nothing but the stuff of nightmares.

Oooooohhhh, yeah! Jack's been dreaming since the very beginning. So he can now wake up to his team of Suzie, Owen, Tosh, Ianto, and NO GWEN!

Good idea for a fic)) I hope someone will adopt and develop it.

gwen can't be the face of boe because she didn't lecture the doctor and martha about her 'all so beating heart' for so long that she used up all the air on the planet.

XD nah, it's Rhys, he got stuck between Gwen and an alien acid that horribly disfigured him and made his life significantly longer. Gwen being the loving wife she is, put him in a jar, left him to the nurses and never looked back.

From: [identity profile] kamiandcat.livejournal.com

The scary thing is, it would be totally in character for Gwen to do that.

Nah, it's Ianto, after all knows everything, mostly likely even Jack's "they called me FoB" story and named himself after his old lover.

Gwen sucked the (eternal) life right outta him!

No, but really, I can't see how Jack would logically become mortal, unless it involves a race that has access to the vortex...which is either the timelords orr the daleks, I think? But it's supposed to be about a hundred year old conspiracy, so I guess the government has probably been testing on jack and found a completely deus ex way to drain him.

From: [identity profile] weis07.livejournal.com

You know, your last suggestion about government testing on Jack seems the only logical explanation of how world-wide immortality can be connected to Jack and render him mortal. Plus, it implies all kind of interesting plot possibilities that we definitely won't see in the show.

Gwen found an item in the newly stocked archives labelled "DO NOT TOUCH GWEN". In order to prove that she knew much more about alien tech than anyone else, and wanting Jack to come back to her, she pushed many buttons, thus messing with the universe where everything was opposite (giving the reason why Jack returned at all). Now she feels she must protect mortal Jack from everything by means of bazookas. Meanwhile, Jack is confused why he is back on earth and why the hell Gwen was carrying a bazooka.

This explains everything! It also probably makes far more sense than the actual plot!

It turns out that Jack got sucked through the rift while beaming to the ship at the end of CoE but didn't know it. actually on a parallel world that only exists because Gwen needs people that worship her as only she deserves to be. And because she can't have anyone more special than her, she uses a device to render Jack mortal but, because its Gwen, she screwed it up andpulls a made everyone else immortal too. Once Jack finds out he's in the wrong place, he finds a way to go back to his reality, where he becomes immortal again and kills Gwen to make sure that what happened in the other reality can't happen there too.

Or it could be that Jack pulls a Pam Ewing, wakes up in the Hub to hear the shower running, only to find Ianto and discovers it had all been a dream and that gwen had never joined Torchwood, Suzie never killed anybody and that Suzie, Tosh and Owen were still alive.

That's actually something I would watch! Especially if Jack discovered Ianto's 'death' was Gwen's fault too and managed to reverse it! Perhaps killing Gwen in his reality would reverse the whole 456 incident and make it so it never happened because Gwen caused a timeslip by messing about with something the rift dropped on Cardiff, then when the 456 actually do show up, Jack remembers everything and is able to quickly defeat them with no loss of life, and he and Ianto get knighted by the queen and then get married and live happily (and immortally) literally ever after!

" Jack has become mortal ... how is this possible if fixed points can never be changed? "

You're still trying to find some logic to RTD's thinking? After all this shite so far time?

Like a lot of other people, my first reaction was, that this is his final resort to be able to make Torchwood all about fucking-Gwen-Cooper. RTD used John Barrowman's immense popularity to get the show off the ground and going forward; now he's finally run out of usefulness and he's the final thing standing in the way of Torchwood being completely about Gwen, so RTD has to write a whole season around just how to get rid of Jack now he's no longer useful.

curious fact that starz will not allow netflix to air gwenwood until 30 days after they have aired the show. that doesn't suggest they have much faith in rtd's marysue gwen.

Gwen believes that the only way to make sure that Jack returns and states his 'unstated love for her', is to make HERSELF immortal and thus even more awesome, compassionate and understanding. So she's been experimenting with the remains of alien tech from the Hub, but any useful notes from Ianto's archive have been lost in the explosion. True to form, the lack of instruction manuals hasn't deterred her, as she always knows best anyway, and has now created the 'Gwen Williams patented Immortality Device', powered by a small offshoot of the rift next to her isolated cottage a few miles out of Merthyr Tydfil. Now she can be with her Captain forever!! (evil cackle)
What she doesn't realise as she sets the machine in action, is that her complete lack of technical knowledge will result in EVERYONE becoming immortal- but her beloved Captain is already mortal, and the effects on him are quite the reverse.....Da da dum!

That sounds exactly the sort of thing Gwen would do, given that she never considers the consequences of her actions! Sadly, others always suffer when Gwen gets a 'brilliant idea'.

My 3 year old has an invisible Frog called Tink and in my humble opinion the invisible Frog is more in touch with reality than RTD is.

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

Well, I'd rather try and have a conversation with the frog than with RTD. The chances of Tink actually responding instead of talking about how brilliant he is, is substancially larger than RTD doing it.

As we all know awesome Gwen Cooper is immune to Retcon, which means everything after Adam just happened in her head (and on our screens), so she befriended Adam and tricked Jack into thinking everyone and the grandson he never knew he had is dead, dead, dead hoping that then he would turn towards her... Jack, having a clever moment though, ran off to space. Now Sooper-Cooper uses Adam's friendship again to make herself immortal so that Jack will come back to her, something went terrible wrong (as usual) with amazing Gra...Gwen and everybody turns immortal while Jack turns mortal (this should hold that fixed point in time and space thing in stasis for a short while). Meanwhile in Cardiff Tosh, Owen and Ianto, seriously puzzeled why the woke up in the boardroom one day and Gwen and Jack were gone, are trying hard to fix things. They'll find out that the key to fix everything is shooting Gwen's head off. Bang. Everything is fixed. Jack immortal again and the fixed point secured.

Oh wait, no, that was MY fantasy not RTDs... sorry tiny mistake.
