Discussion of 02x09

Not only was it Gwen-centeric it was also Gwack-tastic (I ran out of books to throw about half-way though). 'Enough with the wistful looks, Jack.' I really do hate this whole Jack/Ianto/Gwen/Rhys love square. I really feel sorry for both Ianto and Rhys, they both can do sooo much better. Jack needs a good smack upside the head and Gwen... needs to be pelted with shoes. This does add more evidence to my theory that each writer has their pairing of choice, either Jack/Gwen or Jack/Ianto, and writes whichever one they like without regard to how the episodes flow (I bet next week it will be Jack/Ianto).

How many people think Gwen was expecting a snog form shapeshifter!Jack.

Favorite line: Gwen: 'Ever since I met [Jack] all Rhys has had to put up with is crap... I'm pretty sure Rhys has had to put up with crap ever since he's met *Gwen*.

Can't wait to see what everyone else thinks.

Oh I was restraining myself from throwing things from the first scene where Gwen insists the wedding absolutely positively has to go ahead.
WTF was she thinking? Even leaving aside any Gwack issues, WTF did she think she was doing, wanting to tell everybody she's pregnant only to have to tell the she's not a few days/weeks later? How the hell can the supposed 'heart' of the team be so fucking oblivious as to the pain that she's deliberately about to inflict? Okay, she figured it out about half way through the ep, but the damage was already done, stupid cow. And now thanks to her, her parents, family, friends, aren't going to have any memory of the day. Gwen sucks.

As for the Jack/Gwen issues. Ugh. What came across to me was that while Jack might want Gwen, or at least the idea of the life she's living, he's (finally) doing the decent thing and making it clear that she's with Rhys. The good thing about this, is that there's no way TPTB are going to have a married Gwen shag Jack - not if they want us to swallow that she's the 'heart' etc.
The bad news is that I wouldn't give much odds on Rhys's survival.
The other good news is that with Gwen clearly aware of Jack's involvement with Ianto, she'd come across as an even bigger bitch if she tried stealing him away. Again though, that doesn't look good for Ianto.

But the image I will keep in my mind from this ep (apart from the one I want of Ianto measuring Jack's inside leg!) is the Jack/Ianto dance scene. Just the two of them, holding each other so close, almost manages to wipe the Gwack taste from my mouth. Just a pity it wasn't a longer scene and that we didn't get to see Ianto's face in it.

Ep 9

Catherine Tregenna, one of Torchwood's writers, has said that there is no Torchwood "bible". This means that we are never going to get any proper continuity or character development because each writer is operating in a vacuum.

Once I heard her say that everything made perfect sense and I bear it in mind when I watch episodes.

Meeting

They do have creative meetings. They are chaired by RTD, a gay man who wrote a drama about a gay man falling in love with a woman, settling down with her and even having a child with her. {I discovered this program last year when a friend lent me the DVD, I enjoyed it but found it was totally unbelievable}.

Have you ever seen RTD interviewed? He is a VERY odd guy. Personally, I think he believes there are two types of women in the world: Mother types who have no life and Gwen types who are basically self centered bitches. By creating Gwen, and insisting she is wonderful, and great in every way,and then proceeding to make her behave like a bitch he is actually having one of his little "jokes" on fans.

I think he originally intended to get Jack and Gwen together but has found other writers objecting. So the result of this is we get them gazing into each others eyes in soft focus but never doing anything else.

The thing that most bothers me about the characterization of Jack is, in Episode One of Season one, Tosh tells Gwen something like-- Jack will go with anyone or anything. However, ever since then, he has actually, apart from some kisses and innuendo, never had sex at all! He is easily the most celibate member of the team---even Ianto had Lisa. I think this is weird.

The person in the team who fills this description is Gwen. She was even eying a Mayfly with interest in one Episode. Now THAT I would like to see---and with luck it would kill her afterward!

u r totally right, the writers all have different opinions on the jack /? situation, and write what they want with totaly disregard to the rest of the show, sending confusing siganls
janto all the way i fink, it just fits, and i can't stand gwen, therefore i can't stand gwack either
