Jack's immortality was really the only thing that gave me any sort of comfort in the show - cause RTD could write Jack OUT of the show but he couldn't goddamn well kill him off!

somehow - and I really really really hope this - that the fate of Jack and Oswald [Bill Pullman's character] are tied and at the end Oswald is killed and Jack is back to being immortal

but goddammit it all to hell I really really really HATE RTD with a passion - I hate his fucking lovesick obsession with Gwen and Eve Myles - I think he's hurt Torchwood in ways that can never be fixed because he was so goddamned well fixated on her!!!!!!

I think with this RTD is probably a half-step if not a full step above on my all time never ever to be forgiven list with Shane Brennan, Brad Wright, Robert Cooper, Martin Gero and Joe Mallozzi all squeezed together on the half-step - or full step below him - and on that same level is my disgust and derision for Gwen Cooper and Ziva David and on the step below them is Eve Myles and CdP.

I'm completely with you in hating RTD. I do so since day 4 of COE. He started killing TW with Exit Wounds and succeeded with COE. I don't care anymore about MD. But one part of me - call it my pervert part - even would like him to kill Jack. Because I really would love to see the outcry which will then go through all the JB-fans which pointed for two years with their fingers on me and all the others who wanted Ianto back and who told us to shut up and move on. I would like to see them starting their own campaign. And then maybe together we would be able to make the necessery impact with BBC and Starz and they kick RTD out of the show and hand it to someone who really has talent and who cares for the audience not just for his own hypocricy.

Actually he started killing in TWD with 'Everything Changes' when he killed off Suzie after spending all that time setting her up as Jack's second in command of Torchwood 3. And hell in light of his obsession with Eve/Gwen it makes perfect sense - kill off a perfectly good character just so you can get your favorite on the team!

This just shows that I've been right all along, Tosh and Owen where victims of CoE as well. And RTD played the fans. He probably just changed the "un-death" storyline from Ianto to Owen because he knew without the Janto fans CoE would be less successful. But there he miscalculated because let's face it MD is on a small pay tv channel, Fox and God knowns who else showed him the door when he came knocking. TBH personally I hope that he does kill off Jack, too. In CoE all he did was to make Jack less and less likable (no doubt to put Gwen into a better light). I just want him to stop destroying a character I once really liked, esp. since many of the new and shiny viewers he's looking for have probably never seen him in the real Torchwood or Doctor Who and will probably only "meet" a character that will be as far from the Jack I once love as it gets.

They can't kill Jack - they need JB to sell the show again and again. Not even new team will be interesting enough to make it worth audience' attention. They'll torture him as always - that's for sure. But to kill him permanently - that's marketing suicide.

All in all the interview is hilarious. At the end I remembered - "I'm so pretty, oh so pretty... It is awesome how pretty I am..." erm.. right... just put "brilliant" instead of "pretty" :)))

Unless this is some huge runaway success in the US market, I think TW is done whether Jack lives or dies. Given that Starz is a small channel, its unlikely to have huge numbers. It may do better once you can download from Netflicks, but its interesting that Starz decided to delay the downloads which were supposed to run simultaneously with the series. Guess not enough people ran to subscribe to watch Gwenwood.

I've been saying they were going to kill Jack off ever since the premise of the MD came out. My guess they'll leave his death ambiguous so that they can revive it if someone wants to pay the freight for a new series. But you know Gwen will survive. Because, as it says above, not even death can hold her.

Honestly, as much as I like Jack, I hope they kill him off. I want to hear the howls of the Gwackers and the Jack lovers when their favorite character gets the axe. And please, can we do it in a meaningless and demeaning way, you know stepping off a curb and getting hit by a truck, murdered by his pedophile lover, but please not saving Gwen's baby.

the thing is that cable networks - especially premium ones like HBO, CineMAX, Showtime and STARZ have different standards on what they consider a 'runaway success' for an original production

cause frankly I find it difficult to believe that all those premium cable channel series are the HUGE successes the various cable networks proclaim

STARZ will pick Torchwood for another season if it meets the criteria it deems worthy - and frankly considering some of what's offered on cable - Torchwood even this mish-mash one will probably be head and shoulders better than a lot of what's offered

What you, (the OP) are going through right now, is probably what most of us felt when Ianto or Tosh or Owen or the hub/suv/myfanwy got axed, that complete sense of anger and disbelieve that he would destroy the best part of the show and not even give one iota of respect to the fans.

My guess is that, yes, JB leaves the show...He's not living in LA, while EM moved there for miracle day. To me that says he ain't planning on going longterm. Aside from that, Jack is supposed to be unaging and, no offence, JB is not. Also, Jack is the last shred of the Whoverse in that show, the last thing that actively connects it to the Doctor, RTD wants his political thriller and not his sci-fi show, so he disconnects as soon as he can.
Now, he could just make Jack leave the planet, but then there'd be the "he'll be back" fans. Rusty not want, so Jack has to go permanently. As for the Face Of Boe, when the hell has Davies ever kept his continuity straight?

Of course, he could just Joss the whole thing and let him live, just because everyone expects him to kill Jack.

As for the interview

I think it's a fascinating concept, because, his immortality is one of the things that, ironically, gave Jack a kind of humanity. You felt so terrible for this guy, having to say goodbye to everyone he ever loved, all the time. (this was the interviewer, now for RTD)

And it's very hard to prove he's mortal without killing him. So that's going to be interesting. Some clever things to come.

My guess is that he got wind about the rumors going around in fandom and is now playing it down by joking about it. Pretty much the same situation we had before CoE. Plus IF there's a season 5 it will be pretty difficult to keep all the "UK" characters, no offence but non of them is "US TV star material". And if RTD has to chose between Gwen and Jack it can only end badly. My guess is that Rhys will be shipped or killed off and Gwen will end up with a nice new US love interest, and maybe fixed teeth and a boob job. RTD just needs to charm the Jack fans a bit now, after the Tosh, Owen and Ianto fans already ran they're the only cows to milk he has left. And look at his ego, that man doesn't even thinks about it that MD could tank, in his world he was lots of new viewers after MD, the old fans? well if they don't like it they can always leave.

I had my apparently petty opinion of RTD confirmed when I read this interview, the man is deluded if he thinks that killing(?) everyone except Gwen will keep the world watching TW. I have bonded over my intense (I am being polite here!) dislike of this character with complete strangers, not just here but in RL. My only hope is that Steven Moffat gets his way and Jack returns to the Whoverse as this is the last member of TW that I gave a damm about. I was dissappointed to loose Suzie, but I didn't know her. There are only a handful of characters that I've hated with a passion and Gwen landed on that list permanently with 'Adrift' - nothing she could do or can do will ever redeem her in my eyes and I know I'm not alone in that opinion of the character

And it isn't it interesting how Moffat has done an about face with Jack. First, it was 'no more cross-overs, he belongs to TW,' now its, 'why yes, I would like to have Jack back on the show.'

I'm not quite sure where Jack would fit in the Who universe at this point - but perhaps we could team up Jack and K9 and do a kids show! I'm only half kidding here, but I can see Jack being a franchise in his own right, Gwen, you're kidding, right?

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. RTD is a fucking idiot if he thinks this is going to fly, even with American audiences. Most folks I know who are going to watch are watching solely because of Captain Jack... some are watching because of the dearth of decent science fiction on U.S. TV. I never planned to watch it. Yes, I love Jack, but the storyline is just absolute shit.

I was disappointed when they killed off Suzie who was such a dark and complex character and replaced her with the idiot Gwen. I was heartbroken when Tosh and Owen died and totally devastated at Ianto's pointless death. Read the article yesterday and it did upset me. So had to do some thinking.

If Captian Jack is killed off it will be the end of TW for me. He is the core character. TW is about Captain Jack.
If you kill him off then the main focus of the show is gone. Not sure if any other actor could carry this show. Eve Myles certianily could not. I would not watch Gwenwood.

The series was created for John Barrowman as a spin off of Doctor who by RTD. So not sure why he would want to kill off the main person who carries the show. If he does then he really is an idiot.

In terms of the story it kinda make sense (dont kill me) if everyone is immortal then Jack becomes mortal.

However as a fixed point in time and space I am not sure how this would effect Jack long term.

In light of the revelation if Jack is killed off I will not watch period. Being in NZ means it will not be shown here for sometime. I have never gotten over the death of Ianto, Tosh or Owen. the only saving grace in all this was Jack was safe.

I won't kill you, obviously! but I will say this: If there is a disease that makes men weaker, would that same disease do the opposite to women, make them stronger or something. Just saying, almost NOTHING in the universe has an exact polar opposite. I mean, yeah, it's nice in storywriting, but it has no logical grounds to stand on.

The only reason I see for Jack to be mortal is if it were his ability somehow causing the shit to happen...which considering the fact that he only comes back AFTER it happens seems unlikely. Why would it happen on earth, then, if Jack is halfway across the skies. Unless this means no-one in the rest of the universe dies, in which case, granted. Even so, what would cause something that has been stable for the past 180 years or so to change THAT abruptly and how would it get enough energy to keep ALL those people going, when Jack alone needed time to recharge after Abbadon sucked him dry. Also, Jack's condition is not biological, his entire body could be vaporised and he would STILL grow back. How do you duplicate or alter something like that without a time-vortex at your hand and I don't think we're going to get the doctor or his technology in this season.

when i read the interview this morning all i could i think of is russell is happily killing off his own show to showcase his own ego.
i wonder what all the rusty defenders who mocked those fans(like me) made lists of the plotholes totally ooc actions and the senseless death of ianto but not before his character was dragged through the mud of gaybaiting are feeling now? the fans who drank the rusty kool-aid and told other fans that didn't understand great 'drama' and that torchwood needed to grow beyond 'boys kissing' , how is that working out? how does it feel to know that when their writing "god" doesn't need them as much as he needs his ego.

I just think of it this way. If Jack does get killed off, he'll be with Ianto for the rest of the afterlife and Gwen will be stuck on Earth dealing with all of the time paradoxes that appear with Jack's death. Also, since no one can die, Gwen will be stuck with all these issues, no Jack to save her, and the entire world will be after only her since she is the sole survivor of the now outlawed Torchwood.
I like looking at this horrible article with the AGA glass half full.
The only person I would truly be sorry for would be Rhys, he's stuck with Gwen for eternity and she believes it is smart to bring her kid to work with her.

I thought Jack was going to be made mortal ages ago and posted it here and on my LJ. My cousin told me that's what the gossip was. He is a TV producer and has actually met RTD. I also have speculated more than once, ages ago, that Jack might actually be killed in Miracle Crap. I remember saying that Miracle Crap could well end with the cliffhanger of Jack's death. Interesting that RTD has now more or less confirmed this. What an overrated prick he is.

I actually wouldn't mind Jack being killed as then JB could concentrate on doing something else. He is very good on stage and live, much better than on TV.

As for Eve, has she really moved permanently to the USA?

Totally agree with JB doing other things. They could give him a show like "Tonight is the night" again. It's not my type of entertainment but he's very good in something like that. Maybe that's the real problem with TW Jack for me. He was brilliant in DW, but then he was basically himself, a bit over the top, always flirty, always smiling, entertaining, in TW he's become more and more serious and dark, something that somehow doesn't fit with JB ( at least for me).

I know this is a Gwen-bash forum, but I have to say it. If Eve Myles is as fantastic an actress as RTD clearly reckons, why has she never had a lead role on any other show? I'm not disputing her credentials, and I think she must be good to make Gwen such a loathsome character.

The fact is that it wouldn't matter how great Eve is; Gwen alone is not capable of carrying a show. If our worst fears are realised and Jack is killed off, there will not be another series of Torchwood. No network in it's right collective mind would take it on for a fifth series. In addition, I think it would be safe to say that RTD's credibility as a writer will be shot to hell across the board.

I do take some comfort in that I can't imagine JB being able to fake any degree of enthusiasm
about the new series if he knew his signature character was to be killed off permanently to make way for Eve Myles.

My friend talked me down from the figurative 'ledge' with that argument - that John is just too damned enthusiastic about MD and working in the U.S. and U.K. etc. She's mostly [and I do mean 'mostly'] convinced me that Jack will not be permanently dead/mortal at the end of MD. *sigh* I'm just putting my faith in John and Capt. I haven't been vocal lately and never on this site, but I must say it makes sense, since he (Diarrhea Mouth Davies (as I call him)) isn't allegedly coming back for a fifth season. If Jack dies he knows the show which is teetering on the verge of total failure (at least in my mind, will not survive and he won't miss out on anything. Do I make since, sometimes I confuse myself.
I must say though that you would have to be a complete idiot if you think a pedophile and Gwen can hold a show. Any show. I mean really who wants to watch that?

You know, I wish it bothered me but seen as I've never watched another episode of Torchwood since that farce CoE (not even cracked open my copies of Series 1 & 2), and I had no intention of watching this anyway, I really could give a toss if they kill him off or not. At least it would hopefully end this once and for all and put everyone out of their misery

I just had a thought today, while considering all the speculation on whether or not RTD is going to kill Jack off. We know he's said he might leave TW after this but a: he's said that before, b: you can't believe anything he says, and c: I don't know how the biz works but since he's the creator he might get money from the show even if he turned it over to someone else. So he might decide to kill Jack off at the end as a back up plan in case the show doesn't do well. Figuring then the JB/Jack fans would get together with the GDL/Ianto fans to fight for the return of the show. He could play the "so sad, I really planned to bring Jack back next season, but the network cancelled the show..." The Ianto fans have demonstrated how persistant and dedicated TW fans can be (it's been two years now and they are still here and still making sure they're heard). He could use the fans to try and keep his cash cow. Sadly for him, while Gwen is a cow, she doesn't bring in the money/fans.

afterelton just ran an interview with eve kai and bill no john(things that make you say wtf) which i don't think you should read if you are the type who might beat your computer. it was a love affair with all things gwen and how she was the star of torchwood and how did she like america, barf. if i had not seen the logo for afterelton i would have swore it was rtd writing the interview. for magazine targeted to the gay community the only question i saw(it was fast glance because all the fawning over eve) about gay concerns was asked during the interview with bill about the fact his character played a pedophile and would that reinforce gay stereotypes.
if fans of torchwood and jb are not convinced that jack is going to be thrown under the bus for amazing the gwen i don't know what will. i honestly don't know who i more angry at rtd or afterelton for kissing his pinky ring.

My Husbands best friend is gay. They have known each other since they were 6 years old. This friend is now happy and settled with his partner and his partners small daughter. He was married but his wife left him with the baby when he told her he was gay. She abandoned the baby.

I just mentioned this because I wish TV would show us, just for once, a family more like theirs. After Elton is supposed to represent the gay community but they aren't doing a very good job, in my opinion, by spending their time sucking up to RTD all the time.

A lot of people who don't really care for RTD and his writing will say, well, he brought back Dr Who, and use this to excuse anything he does they don't like. Unfortunately, the decision to actually return Dr Who to TV was not made by RTD but by 2 BBC executives, whose names I have forgotten. Once the decision had been made they then asked RTD to produce etc the show. He was an employee of the BBC and at no point was he in a position to decide to bring back anything to TV.

As for Torchwood Miracle Crap. I am not watching it and I have even stopped looking at pics from it including those posted above, which I just scrolled quickly through. It seems it will be more Gwen is awesome. After all, she is so tough she can fire a massive gun at a helicopter with ease. She'll probably fly next, now she's immortal. I mean without a plane and how come Jack is suddenly gay? He was omnisexual before.

Michael Grade was one of them and he is /was Director at Beeb One- he hated DW with a vengeance but RTD floated it to him and he said something along the lines of "OK, just so that I do not have to see it. Keep it away form me and you can do what you like"
So, it was actually RTD's idea and it was actually RTD who floated the idea to the Beeb- I hate RTD but I do not like to see things get distorted, apart form anything else it gives our "enemies" ammunition against us.
I actually think RTD did a pretty good job directing DW- I think the shows he wrote were the weakest ones of the whole show and could not understand why other people could not see it.
He used Deus Ex Machina every single time and his TinkerbelleJeebusDoktor was beyond crazy.
And whilst we are on the subject, in spite of all the fanfic as usual filling in the plotholes- what did Jack do on the Valiant for a year?
NOTHING.
He was chained up eating cold swede, that is all.
Apparently immortals do not need to go to the toilet along with not needing sleep.
And why was he there, anyway?
His wrist thingy got three of them into the Valiant, how come he did not go with Martha?
Nothing happened to Jack, nothing happened to TW in the Himalaya, nothing happened because RTD could not be bothered to write a backstory.
As a writer I know that you just have to know where your characters are when they are "off stage" and you have to know what they are doing. For me the biggest part of the story is the part that never gets written done as anything except a "sketch"
BUT it is there, in your mind, in your head.
It is SO easy to put in little asides and allusions to what people have been doing when they are not visible that it makes me want to get RTD and bash his head against a wall until he understands that what he is doing is NOT BLOODY WRITING!!!!!
