okay - so we've been sharing tidbits on the new Torchwood series over on the LJ comms of course - everyone wants to know more - or most everyone...
if you're a PRO-Gwen supporter go no further - seriously
so I posted the caps from the 'In production' video over on the
torch_wood comm and someone commented that Gwen looked pissed at Jack and ready to him slap him and not in a good way
then someone commented that 'Dude. He deserves it.'
grrr.... really? seriously? he deserves it? why exactly? because Jack reacted poorly to having sacrifced his lover and his son to aliens? to the UK governments attempting to sacrifice children to those same aliens and trying to kill off Jack and others who knew anything about it?
the man is now older than the Doctor and has had more experiences good and bad than most humans could reasonably be expected to handle and yet he continues to try and do the right thing most of the time - he's been willing and will no doubt still be willing to make the tough decisions and stand by and face the consequences [something that the Doctor for all of his highly evolved Gallifreyan culture and background doesn't do - he leaves after the event is resolved and doesn't generally face the consequences of his decisions except on rare occasions] - so where exactly does Gwen come off with the right to be angry and where does the idea come from that Jack 'deserves' her ire? she's not lost her lover/husband or her child - she's never truly had to face any real consequences for her actions and decisions - and I don't count the reports that Gwen and family are living 'in hiding' at the start of Miracle Day - she's still got Rhys and the baby
RTD was absolutely completely wrong - Gwen is not the heart of Torchwood and never was. She was a self-centered and selfish whiny child who STILL thinks she so much better than anyone else including a man with several lifetimes of experiences behind him. Frankly I hate to think what her child will be like - unless Rhys has a majority of the influence on their child's upbringing. Then again he's made himself almost into a doormat for Gwen and she doesn't appreciate his love for her.
and as much as I love John - he and the cast have bought into RTD's rhetoric in regards to Gwen...
sigh
hell I even got scolded because I said it wasn't Rhys I wanted to see dead in series 4 [we lose teammates/regulars at an alarming rate in the show] in an earlier post to that comm

Thát picture alone looks so...forced that I really, REALLY can't get over the fact that some people ship Gwack. A lot of picturespam from season one, two and the occasional from three keep showing Ianto and Jack in tune with each others body language, emotions and positions. The mimic each other, they match each other. This picture shows so much friction and unbalanced body language that they seem like two strangers having a mildly uncomfortable conversation about traffic.
Anyway, I am actually hoping that Jack and to some extent Rhys bite the dust, because then I'd have no emotional investment in this series left and I could FINALLY leave it behind. If Gwen dies I'd still be in the uncomfortable position to glimpse at a series that isn't the series I loved anymore, but still has important characters. Hell, I'd be more inclined to watch it because it has no Gwen.
About Jack... I think that to some extent he was wrong in what he did to Stephen (the ethics in my head tells me that starting an intergalactic war would be better for humanity than to be protected like spoiled brats by the blood of an innocent child and learn nothing from their mistake anyway). Not one kid should be 'given up'. If they'd want them, let them try and get them. That doesn't change the fact that partially because of that Jack is a victim of multiple trauma's and has done more for the planet at the cost of his soul. Gwen is nothing more then one of the aforementioned spoiled brats.
Do you know what was said during the scene? I haven't seen the vid, and don't really plan on watching it.

I don't want Jack to die and I do want Gwen to bite the dust and Rhys to live a happy long life raising their child

Yeah, I agree on Rhys. He should live to raise his baby!

Interesting that GDL seems to be looking mighty fine these days...

I mean, looking at Fringe, we see Peter and Olivia struggling with the problem of a duplicate olivia taking her place and having peter fall in love with her. We see walter trying to save the world after nearly destroying it and frustrations over losing parts of his mind. In Firefly and Serenity we see Mal and Inara struggle to admit their feelings even if they're not built for that, hell, we see Zoë and Wash deciding whether or not they want to have kids sometime in the future.
SO many possibilities, Jack has his immortality, Ianto is sleeping with the guy who shot his girlfriend and RTD CHOOSES to go for the mundane kill option, hell, we never even got to know Stephen, he was just a sacrifical lamb.
Funny thing about Ianto's death is that they keep trying to sell it differently, It's great drama, Jack needed to be hurt before he could kill his grandson. Wikipedia even noted this: "This led several writers to analyse the death in view of the character's earlier refusal to admit to his relationship with a man, and claimed that the death was a sign that the LGBT community was leaving behind its image of victimhood"
BY DOING WHAT!!! KILLING HIM IN THE MOST VICTIM LIKE WAY YOU CAN IMAGINE?!?! I'd say, you want to leave behind victimhood? give us a real solid relationship between two big damn heroes who save the day...
honestly, the more they try to sell this kind of crap, the less I feel RTD had an actual reason for it, other than destroying the more popular characters to make room for Gwen.

THIS! So much THIS and completely THIS!
Ianto was totally victimized there, and after being appointed as the victim for gratuitous insults for 5 episodes in a row, he got killed and BELITTLED and FORGOTTEN and REPLACED! And with him the gay relationship was submitted to the same disrespectful treatment.
Ianto didn't even get the chance at getting any form of payback, but was annihilated by the insults first and by the dismissive termination later.
How is that supposed to be 'leaving behind the image of victimhood" when it clearly sends out exactly the opposite message through the worst kind of image of the poor abused gay boy who is unappreciated and has no place in this cruel world and no purpose and no worth either (straight and pregnant Gwen has, instead!), I don't even want to know.
With Jack they managed to do even worse by turning him into a child killer. How nice of them to reinforce the idea that gay men are not to be left around children... and I don't even want to guess what the combination "omnisexual Jack/paedophile Oswald" in the same story line is going to achieve!

Spread the Gwen Hatred :)

Did anyone notice the pedophile's name change? It was supposed to be Oswald Jones but the caption reads Oswald Danes. Also Pullman is looking rough as well. Maybe too many Ianto Jones fans protested so they changed it.

Nah, it’s just next step in facial expressions of TOUGH WELSH WOMAN. The first was bulging eyes - “Torchwood must do something!” – morale superior mode. And now this one, determinedly pursed lips – “Well, if Torchwood can’t then I’ll do it myself!” – super-tough Welsh woman/defender of Earth default mode.
There was another one – “pining after Jack” mode but it seems history now.
I hope they won’t go “Gwen is pissed off at Jack for something” way because after everything and after he is back at Earth especially to watch over her it will be really, really stupid.
