It won't just be "Doctor Who" getting a makeover, however. Remember that experiment BBC Two was doing where it was watering down episodes of "Torchwood" to make it more family friendly? If Dr. Phibes is correct, then it seems that they were warming up audiences to a new version of the show which will launch in the third season. So far, only five episodes have been commissioned out of the standard 13, and gone are actors Burn Gorman (Owen Harper), Naoko Mori (Toshiko Sato) and Capt. Jack Harkness' John Barrowman. In, however, is former "Doctor Who" companion Freema Agyeman, who will join the show full-time in Season 3. Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper, is expected to return as well, and Barrowman is reported to be making guest appearances in the third season.

This can't be true....Burn has already confirmed he's signed on for season 3.....what the fuck?

I like to think RTD wouldn't be so blinkered as to put the two hated (no offence to Martha but she is widely disliked) characters permanently and take out the charaters people actually watch it for.

GDL is way more popular than Eve, in the livejournal coms at least, I had a quick look at member numbers, and Ianto's site torchwoodcoffee has over a 1314 members, pcgwencooper has 81. jack_and_gwen has 292, jackxianto has 1894 members. So why is it the writers/producers/RDL or whatever, still try to shove Gwack at the audience, considering that pairing has no where near the amount of support that Janto has? Why does Gwen still seem to get more screen time than Jack or Ianto when they are way more popular!! Ok getting down off my soap box now, because I can rant forever on this.

'...still try to shove Gwack at the audience' I'm starting to get the feeling that each writer has their pairing of choice, either Jack/Ianto or Jack/Gwen and they write whichever one they like without regard to the flow of the episodes. It would explain why one episode it's Jack/Ianto and the next it's Jack/Gwen (those Gwack scenes just seem *so* shoehorned in).

I just find it laughable that they take out Jack and leave in Gwen... I mean... what the hell were they smoking? If this is true I see the ratings being a total of about 10 people if they're lucky. x_x

I'm sincerely hoping this is all rumour and does not bear out - John has said in recent interviews that he'd be willing to do TW for years to come if the series continues to be renewed

Unfortunately for the validity of this story it was posted first by Michael Hinman and has a link to the full story on SyFyportal, which was written by, guess who? Yes, a certain Michael Hinman.
It is amazing the way he writes as if he has found the story on one site and is telling people on another to be helpful and informative when all the time he wrote the thing himself!
Also all 5 leading actors in Torchwood have said recently in interviews that they are returning for season 3.
So, who do I believe---well--not Michael Hinman.

I just had a wonderful idea. Since anyone can evidently write anything on the web, and since I have a cousin who is a TV producer, and since I have my own web site----I think I'll say on it that Eve Myles is leaving Torchwood right away---or maybe that she will be killed off in Ep 1 of Season 3.
Who knows, within hours it will be reported as probable fact--maybe by Michael Hinman himself!!!

Hi all, just found this com, which is annoying cause I can't stand Gwen, (really she makes me physically ill sometimes) and here was this lovely place, hiding from me for all these months.

Anyway about the above, doubt it's true, but I wouldn't mind if it was, as long as Jack and Ianto join the cast of Dr Who, or even better, give Gwen her own spin-off show, which gets her out of the Hub and we won’t ever have to look at her cow-eyes again.

For a moment that sounded lovely. Just ship Gwen and Martha off to have their own adventures. Shame that we would have to watch it. But I would take comfort in that Jack and Ianto could live in peace.

Seriously, John Barrowman is the STAR of the series. Despite how much effort the writers have put into Eve's Gwen, John is still irreplacable. Sooo, sounds bogus, but nice fantasy.

Totally agree with this. I know that Torchwood was originally thought up as a completely seperate show from Doctor Who - sort of an X-files in Cardiff deal. And it might have worked without John Barrowman/Jack. But take Jack out of the show now...what's the point of even doing Torchwood?
Much as I love the cast (even EM), I think that Jack is the only truly indispensable character on the show and if/when JB decides to leave, then I think it'll be time for Torchwood to close down the Hub for good.

As much as I love this show I have to agree. I think that's what they might try to do; I heard a rumor that Captain John could be brought in as a replacement for Jack if JB doesn't want to do Series 3. As much as I like JM's work, I don't think I could watch a Torchwood that doesn't have Jack in it.

Anyone interested in rumors will be excited to know that I have, in fact, started one of my own, based on----not telling------Gwen is to be killed off permanently in Season 3 to allow Eve Myles to pursue her interest in the Theater. Wonderful news.
