I've just been on ff.net to look at the Torchwood section, and there is a LOT of Gwack right now. I think something need to be done, no? How about a recruitment drive? Some sort of competition? Come on people!

have seen that too and was looking a bingo card i have from another community and wondered if this community had ever/ would ever consider something similar... i don't like deadlines but having prompts on hand would be handy for when a bunny bites...

hell, if anyone needs idea's for stories, you might want to check Weis07's journal, she's having them by the boatload. ehm, as much as I'd like to help, I am not a writer, as in, really not. yeah, I could probably help with designing the bingo cards or however that stuff goes, but you won't get any feasible results from me :p

Are there really that many Gwen fans that they are producing a ton of Gwack? Or is it just a few prolific pro-Gweners? I avoid ff.net like a plague ever since they started hosting invasive ads that force you to view them and freeze your computer (and stopped giving the 3-day free of ads option).

As for Gwack... lots of respect for poor Rhys there. Nope, Jack didn't deserve Ianto and Gwen doesn't deserve Rhys so maybe they do deserve each other (I used to like old-Jack, but I have no interest in new-Jack). Hey, anyone know of any stories where Ianto and Rhys dump their respective partners and go off together? Or here's a good story idea... Jack finds out Gwen was working with the government in COE all the time, even planned Ianto's death. 'Cause what I thought when I read this was, "Ah, they finally got rid of Ianto, now just Rhys to go..."

From: [identity profile] irishjantogirl.livejournal.com

that is actually a good storyline you have about Gwen working for the government. seeing as Westminister if full of evil idiots, one more in the nshape of Gwen wouldn't make a difference. You should really write it

It's actually just one writer churning them out by the boatload. There was a Janto story among them, which I read, just to see, but it still sounded like she was writing Gwack, Ianto and Jack were both OOC and Ianto was demanding answers from Jack, them coming on to him, then changing his mind... it was weird. On the bright side, most of the stories have no reviews a few have 1.

From: [identity profile] jsks.livejournal.com

i noticed the same thing the writer will post 3 or 4 new stories in a row for which there are no reviews.
for me i reject coe and torchwood canon after reset. for me ianto/tosh/owen live. that for me means that jack/ianto are together and gwen bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i reject rusty's canon and substitute my own.

Hehe! That's exactly the way I've been writing it too! There is no CoE, Tosh and Owen are both alive, and there are a couple more people on the team. And Gwen has so far been completely absent! It's my preferred version of Torchwood, where everyone is alive and happy and working well together!

I am really funny about the stories I read. I can't stand stories where one committed partner cheats on their SO. That is one of the things I hate so much about Gwen. Some people excuse it by saying that happens but it doesn't make it right. Being able to decide who we have sex with sets us apart from the rest of the animals. People who say they can't control themselves I just don't have time for. Plus I like Rhys (actually better than I like Jack or Owen).

Yeah there is a spate of Gwackers but it is fairly recent. I have to say I take my usual approach and ignore while waiting for Jeeves & Wooster and Defining Ianto(now available on LJ and this is the site where I first found blucougar & miladydragon, so pros & cons. Overall janto still predominates, but as we get closer to the new RTD thing expect more Gwack as they think they are going to get what they want!

I love miladydragon's dragon verse. I check it every day just in case she's had a chance to update.

I once pointed out, very politely, to a Gwack writer that Gwen was actually married to Rhys and received the intelligent reply "I know but I like her with Jack."

As for writing Torchwood stories, I can't because in my mind Torchwood was killed by RTD. This new thing isn't, to me, Torchwood, it is something else with a few ex Torchwood characters.

I may get back to Torchwood fiction in the future but at the moment I am writing "Sherlock" which isn't written by RTD and has no Gwen. Great.

I know what you mean. On this site called Teaspoon (DW mostly) there was a story where Gwen and Martha got together and were planning to take Jack from Ianto and get him with Gwen. When I pointed out Martha wouldn't do that, the writer got really pissy with me. I don't think though that she ever finished it.

right it's time to fight fire with fire. we should all have either a janto-love-fest or an ultimate Gwen-basher published on the site asap.

From: [identity profile] weis07.livejournal.com

Oh, I like the idea of Gwen working with government to destroy Torchwood! She may think of this as her chance to be the leader (after all Jack is not very competent and the rest of the team is just awful. No, they are doing everything wrong and only Gwen knows how things should be done /note the sarcasm/). I think Owen and Tosh better be alive, just incapacitated for a while – it’s interesting that way.
So, Gwen makes sure that Rupesh kills Jack, tries to proceed the bomb thing, but Ianto saves Jack making it seem like an accident. Suspecting that Gwen works against them they start their own game – subtle against her and open – against government. They give Gwen “very important” role to play, knowing that she’ll fail them and quietly, with outside help, save the world while Gwen is convinced that everything is goes according to her plan.
Maybe Jack and Ianto stage Ianto’ death in order to make Gwen believe that she won. And then they can either go to the Queen and tell her everything, or leave the not-so-hospitable Earth and let Gwen manage alone. In this case Gwen will fail to gather the team – no one wants to work with her knowing about her history and experience, and can’t protect people of Cardiff.

Lawford has a good story called "God is in the Details" which has Gwen taking orders from Frobisher. It's pretty good.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

I've noticed a lot of Gwackers have been posting their stories in the Jack/Ianto category on ffn citing a Jack/Ianto friendship. A new one that started recently has Jack going to Gwen instead of Ianto after TKKS, but will "eventually become Janto."

JackxIanto on lj has been having a bunch of stories where past Jack/Ianto is mentioned (since Ianto's been dead for a while and Jack is moving on) and even though there is no Ianto except maybe mentioned in passing the moderators allowed it.

From: [identity profile] mscatmoon.livejournal.com

Yeah, I was rather surprised at some of the stories that have been allowed as I was under the impression that it was for Jack/Ianto fic.

Sadly, I don't read hardly any TW fanfic any more. I used to consider JackxIanto a safe place but now there are too many stories with the Jack/Ianto pairing designation that are COE compliant and involve Jack mourning dead Ianto. You have no idea without reading the entire story whether it'll eventually evolve into a fix-it or just be totally depressing. Used to be most of them did bring Ianto back, now not so much.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

As far as I'm concerned COE doesn't exist. It was an awful series. I don't read postCOE stories even if they are fix-its. I said in another comment that I'm picky about what I read. I hate COE, Gwack (even a little bit), threesomes, Jack or Ianto cheating, angst without a happy ending, long stories (over 50 chapters I get bored.), and stories that are long and are almost all angst. There is a story on Jack x Ianto that is angst and just posted the 79th chapter.

It seems nearly everything I'm reading now are ones I've read several times because there is hardly anything good out there. I've found the same problem with the Harry Potter fandoms also. I have to re-read the old stories because the majority of new ones are awful.

From: [identity profile] mercury-pheonix.livejournal.com

I have read the one you mention, and it is Jack/Ianto. Very much so. It's just a different route of getting them together - and Gwen is not portrayed very nicely in it.

Now there's a new one on ff.net where apparently Gwen is tired of being good, never crossing any boundaries, never causing problems and always putting the entire universe before herself...

Ummm, Gwen, good? The woman who always puts herself first in any situation, screws up constantly and has already cheated on Rhys with Owen? the writer can't be writing about the same person!

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

It's fiction. The characters can be as OOC as the writer wants them to be. I've gotten to the point where I can't stand her even when she's not lying, not cheating, competent, and actually is likeable.
bk_forever: (Gwen bash)

There are very few writers who can make Gwen even tolerable to me these days. I see the word Gwen and a red haze of rage takes over my brain. I can't even TRY to like her. Just having her there in a story tends to spoil the story for me - unless it's a Gwen-bashing story, of course!

18 of them at the last count! At least they're not getting many reviews.

Can't be sure of anything! I'm not even sure RTD writes his own scripts!

From: [identity profile] dr-doomsduck.livejournal.com

That would be an interesting marketing strategy for Gwack, trying to reel the fans in by bombing them on ffn...

From: [identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com

Well, the average niveau of FF.Net would nicely meet RTD's own "talent" - nah, I think even the 13-year-old fanpoodles write better than he.

From: [identity profile] blucougar.livejournal.com

I solemnly swear to only ever write Janto, and any suggestions of Gwackism will forever be only in the warped mind of Super Trooper Cooper, the heart tart of Torchwood.

From: [identity profile] wanda1969.livejournal.com

I never really get why someone would be so into Gwack? It's not really that canon (apart from the constant ogling etc from herself), although I have my suspicions that when Miracle Whip comes out it will soon be...
On which note I'm already irritated by the current trailer for MW which appears on the BBC.
And yes- all the Gwack is one writer. I'm kind of surprised as they appear to have strayed into ff from the Eastenders/Chryed category...
