I may be naive but I still believe Ianto can return...it just is going to take two big things One having RTD leave; which he has said he will do...the other is having TW:MD tank so bad but not so much that TPTB dont say 'hay where not there fans pretty much saying this was going to happen? That when we gutted every single last thing that made it unique & separated it from shows like it, and that by keeping the one thing many people have concluded that they actually hate about it wasnt a good thing, and that they really weren't so keen on Americanizing it...even the Americans fans weren't up to that idea either...and then to top of all that we then make fans pay more for it; that doing all this fans were not going to fill seats/buy subscriptions?' ...But then as quickly realize that fans may only follow the show so far off a cliff not so many but what they are is forgiving.

Unfortunately they have not only killed Ianto, they have killed the series, too.
A lot of "fans" do still not seem to have noticed and are jumping around clapping their hands (these are the ones that would watch paint drying if RTD had put it on the walls) and shouting that it will all be wonderful.
Once the PTB realise that it takes more than a handful of sycophants to make a successful TV programme the series will be gone forever. Even the Beeb will not touch it agian.
So, yes, Ianto and the show are gone, I am afraid. Wish they had left it before "Reset" myself, and just stopped their. RTD does not care who or what he does in order to get his own way, but he has always been a one trick pony and once Miracle Whip has sunk without a trace he will have nowhere else to go....

In truth, you're a conniving, soulless, emotional black hole, with the compassion of a gnat and an attention span to match, except when doing things you've been told NOT to do.

Between them, Ianto and Tosh are the heart and soul (not to mention brains) of Torchwood. Even Owen has more genuine compassion than Gwen!

This is an old thread but just wanted to give my ITA: Owen pretended to be gruff and nasty on the outside but inside he cared a lot (too much which was why he protected himself with a facade). Gwen is opposite. Pretends to care. On the inside it's all Me Me Me.

I liked Owen a lot, he was far from perfect, but he never pretended otherwise. He genuinely cared and tried to help, even though as a doctor his bedside manner left something to be desired. Unlike miss Look-At-Me-I'm-So-Caring, who came across as condescending and patronising when she pretended to care about complete strangers. Funny how that so-called caring was never directed towards her team-mates or her boyfriend.
