Just a little fic I came up with to explain away that scene in the trailer for S2ep9.
Spoilers just for that trailer & ep.
Rated PG-15
Title: Shift happens
Author: Ceindreadh
Characters: Gwen, Jack, Ianto
Word Count: < 500
Rating: PG-15
Summary: Inspired by *that* scene from the trailer for ep 9.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Torchwood characters, I'm only borrowing them, and I promise to return them in minty fresh condition when I'm finished.

"Well Miss Cooper," said Jack, a smile on his face. "Not that I'll be able to call you that for much longer though, but you *do* look beautiful in that dress."
"Oh I'm not taking Rhys's name," said Gwen, quickly.
Jack raised an eyebrow but continued, "Anyway, I just wanted to wish you well." He leaned in aiming his lips at Gwen's cheek, only to be completely taken by surprise as she grabbed his face in her hands and guided his lips towards hers. Jack's eyes widened in shock as her tongue forced its way between his lips. When she finally let go of him, he was gasping for breath. "Gwen? This is your wedding day, even I don't mess with brides to be...at least not unless the groom is joining in too!"
"Forget Rhys," said Gwen. "Oh Jack, I can't do it, I can't marry Rhys knowing that it's you that I want, it's always been you, from the first day we met!" She made as if to fling her arms around Jack but he avoided her grip, instead grabbing her and forcing her up against a wall, a stun gun aimed at her back.
"Jack? What the hell are you doing? Let me go, Jack!"
"Jack?" Ianto's voice was calm and even as if it was an everyday occurrence for his boss to be aiming a weapon at one of his colleagues. "Is something wrong with Gwen?"
"That is *not* Gwen," said Jack. "It has to be the shape shifter...Gwen would never have kis...would never have said what it just said. Ianto, I have to get it out of here before anybody spots that there's two Gwen Cooper's around. You make my apologies to Gwen...the real Gwen and Rhys, tell them I'll be back as soon as I've dealt with this."
"Of course, Jack," said Ianto. "If you take her out the side entrance, nobody should see. I'll keep an eye on things here. I believe the cells on level six have adequate shielding to prevent it from escaping."
"Thanks Ianto," said Jack.
Ianto left the room a half smile on his face. He really ought to have told Jack that he'd already cornered the shape shifter in the upstairs bathroom. It had proven to be a harmless space tourist separated from the rest of its party and doing its best to blend in until it could be rescued. He was sure it wouldn't mind playing the part of Gwen for a few hours longer, and at least this version of Gwen wouldn't try snogging *his* boyfriend!

'It has to be the shape shifter...Gwen would never have kis...would never have said what it just said.' Poor, clueless Jack.

How about a follow up, where Rhys twigs that the Gwen he has just married is a shape shifter, and decides he prefers 'her' anyway, so runs off into space with 'her' before Gwen is let out of her cell (assuming Gwen is let out of her cell, lol)
