An entity called Adam is there amongst the team as their colleague and friend, and has convinced them that he's always been there. These false memories cause various side-effects, such as Gwen forgetting Rhys' existence and Jack remembering his childhood trauma. Also, for no apparent reason, Tosh is now a cleavage-flashing confident babe going out with Adam, while Owen is a dork ('subtly' manifested by him wearing glasses oh dear) with an unrequited crush on her. Turns out Ianto keeps a paper diary, which he finds has no mention of Adam. To shut him up Adam 'gives' him memories of being a serial killer. Ianto is traumatised, begs to be locked up, but Jack, despite lie detector evidence, refuses to believe he could be a killer and affectionately comforts him. However, Adam is a bit rubbish at covering his tracks (cf diary) so within about a minute some CCTV evidence turns up and Jack works everything out. They now have to wipe out memories of Adam, which is upsetting for Tosh, and remember their real selves. Ianto remembers his trauma over Lisa but also how he has found new meaning with the team & Jack. Tosh is lonely. Owen fears not being able to save everyone, or something? For no real reason, Gwen, who now remembers Rhys, declares: "I love Rhys - but not like I love you [Jack]."
HELL!!!

'After watching Ep. 3, it really sunk in that Jack is alone on this planet and that the team is his only family. As such, his feelings for Gwen (or Tosh, or Owen)are a mix of affection, protectiveness, possessiveness and jealousy.' Glad I'm not the only one who saw that, Jack may love Gwen but I really really don't think he is *in* love with her.

I think (albeit breifly) that Jack to Gwen is the ultimate temptation, and in part the writers keep bunging all this gwen loving Jack crap in is by means to try to salvage her character. If she keeps away from Jack (even though she thinks he's rightfully hers) as he's in a relationship with Ianto and she is in a one of sorts with Rhys that it would somewhat redeem her from her past indiscretions from season 1 (Ha! the fools we loathe her, truly & deeply.)
Owen as a dork would be so cute, and yay for Tosh granted another doomed romance but at least the character is shown to be more confident. As for Gwen forgetting rhys well thats a recycled story-line if ever I've seen one.

I completely agree, as far as I'm concerned the Gwen well was poisoned for me during series 1, and I will never like her as a character no matter what the writers do.
'As for Gwen forgetting rhys well thats a recycled story-line if ever I've seen one. ' The writers really need to stop with all the 'I love Rhys, but not as much as I love Jack.'

More and more, I think Jack regards Gwen as rather like a little sister--but she's so obsessed with him that she refuses to see that.
I would LOVE to see Jack make some public declaration of his feelings for Ianto, if only to see the look on that cow Gwen's face.

Oh you and me both!!!
Of course, what I want to see is the expression on Jack's face when Gwen tells him 'I love Rhys - but not like I love you . Hopefully we'll get a nice dose of 'deer in headlights' before he recovers and ups her dose of Retcon!
