From poster at TWOP who has seen the Episode

Ok, so the episode involves Rhys finding out about Torchwood. He follows them to where they're investigating but then they see him talking to the men involved (who are actually threatening him, but they assume he is in on the plot). Gwen wants to run over to him, but Jack sort of throws himself on her, up against a wall, and holds her back while having a very intense conversation, which is framed exactly like a sexy scene. Later, Rhys is naturally angry about having been lied to by Gwen and one of the first things he says is "that bloke [Jack], are you ****ing him?" - Gwen looks shocked. Rhys is brought to the Hub and shown around and ends up being brought in on the plan to stop the alien meat. Gwen is very much against this as she thinks it's too dangerous for him - Rhys is very much not standing for her crap anymore. Jack wants to help the alien creature, Gwen says "so you do have a heart" which seems to be significant (?). Rhys jokes about all the "good-looking young men around here" and she kisses him in reassurance, only to open her eyes and look directly at Jack, who is staring wistfully at them. Later Rhys raves about how amazing Gwen is to Jack, who looks sort of wistful again and says how much they need her. Torchwood goes in to save the alien, stuff happens, Rhys throws himself in front of a bullet for Gwen but survives (thank goodness, I was convinced at that point he was going to be killed off). Owen treats him and there is nothing to suggest, you know, that Owen might feel guilty or anything towards Rhys. Later, Gwen is supposed to retcon him but he is so enthusiastic and amazed about what they have been through and what's out there, that she storms back to the Hub and tells them all she's not doing it, just because they all have lonely lives they don't understand, Rhys was so brave and loves her so she'd rather quit than take that away from him. Jack again gets all up in her space and says how could she go back to her old life, she says she wouldn't know any difference (retcon), he says "But I would". They look at each other very intensely for ages then he agrees, looking very upset. He returns to his office and watches the CCTV of Gwen going outside and kissing Rhys passionately, while looking extremely sad.

Just copied this from another site. It is about the episode "Meat." I am up with the baby, in case anyone wonders. I am typing with one hand and rocking him with the other. I find this summery very depressing. It seems that we are eventually going to get Jack and Gwen whether we all like it or not. I have decided not to watch this episode anyhow. I am not interested in Rhys except as someone to get Gwen away from Jack and I don't want to watch an episode about him.
Also it seems all the writers have changed the characters and forgotten what they wrote last season. everyone has changed from Jack down. I think it is sloppy writing and rotten continuity and I hate to say it but if this is the type of story we are going to get for the rest of the season I hope the program is a complete ratings flop and gets cancelled.

This is very disappointing as I had high hopes for this season but it was all for nothing it seems. We are obviously going to get Jack and Gwen and anyhow it is illogical all this misty eyed rubbish about how wonderful Gwen is and someone with Jack's experience would have, in reality, dismissed her in season one. I can't stand all this shit about wonderful, sympathetic, irreplaceable Gwen and her fat boring boyfriend. Why don't they just get rid most of the cast and make The Adventures of Holy Gwen and have done with it? This is all that fucker RTD's fault. I wish he would retire and just go away someplace.

I am terribly unhappy about this, but I'm gonna keep the faith-for now.

I wish I could do that, but I've been badly burned by writers before, so I'm very pessimistic. I'm still convinced that they will kill off Rhys and/or Ianto before the end of series 2 just so they have a dodgey excuse to put Jack/Gwen together.

Bleeeeh. It would be terribly sad if Rhys died-poor dear doesn't deserve that, or Gwen-but if they killed Ianto, I would probably stop watching.

'Bleeeeh. It would be terribly sad if Rhys died-poor dear doesn't deserve that, or Gwen-but if they killed Ianto, I would probably stop watching.' Oh yes, poor dear really doesn't deserve to die, or Gwen. Why does she treat someone she claims to love so horribly?

I've always said that if they kill off Ianto just to put Jack and Gwen together that will be the last episode I will ever watch. It would be a huge disservice to the character of Ianto, to make him nothing more then a Jack/Gwen stumbling block.

but if they killed Ianto, I would probably stop watching
If they killed him permanently then I'd likely quit watching as well.
That said, given the way TPTB have so dramatically increased his screentime, I can't see them suddenly getting rid of GDL, so i'm optomistic about the prospect of Ianto's survival.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about Ianto dying either, at the moment, but it's terribly unpleasant to contemplate just the same.

'That said, given the way TPTB have so dramatically increased his screentime, I can't see them suddenly getting rid of GDL, so i'm optomistic about the prospect of Ianto's survival.' or it could be that they are giving him more screen time so that we'll actually care when he dies.(I know it doesn't make any sense, but neither does the writers wanting to push Jack/Gwen on us).

I think i just threw up in my mouth a little.
So it's back to the 'Gwen is so wonderful and can do no wrong show' (rolls eyes)
Ah well, it was a nice two episodes up to now.

Well that wednesday evening will be free, if they keep this up I'm going to have to forgo Torchwood and stick to the fanfic *sigh* now where's that bucket

'Well that wednesday evening will be free, if they keep this up I'm going to have to forgo Torchwood and stick to the fanfic *sigh* now where's that bucket' I'm with you, at least facficers have brains. Can I have the bucket when you're done?

Really do not understand what we're supposed to like about the woman. She can't even kiss her bloody boyfriend without eyeing someone else. Or screwing someone else.... Anyway. How are we supposed to take this character? Are there two different sets of writers who just do no communicate with each other? RTD's camp of Gwenopheliacs and the other group. My Torchwood has little to no Gwen, I fast-forward, its a short show now, but I'm happier for it. I do it for NCIS, I can do it for Torchwood, delusions work wonders for me.
Really hope Jack keeps it in his pants in regards to Gwen, but with RTD, Torchwood will go from being 10 minutes long to about 2..*big sigh*

I've already warned my husband to keep anything I can throw out of my reach that night. There's still a mark on the wall from my shoe from ep 1.

WTF are the writers thinking?

Would reading http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/s2_captainsblog.jsp?bc_id=866
make you feel any better? I doubt it's any more canon than the books, but it's soothing to pretend.
Other Staff issues: Gwen is now engaged. I'm happy for her, but I'm concerned about what it might mean - can she stay here, still keeping everything from Rhys? I worry that we're going to lose her. And I worry about Ianto. I think he took it harder than anyone when I ran off. It's going to take me a while to make things up to him. He is a decent, good man, and I'm lucky I met him.

I like the Captain's blog, it makes the sudden stopwatch scene in They Keep Killing Suzie make sense! Assuming you read all the entries up to that one.

Yes and no, about making me feel better. I mean, its obvious whoever is writing them is a Janto fangirl/boy, but it still doesnt take away from what's actually happening in the eps (it will be interesting to see what the Captains blog says after ep 4...maybe it will make this little Janto shipper feel much better if they can explain it all away....lol).

I am very annoyed about reading this episode summary but I'm going to try and not take it seriously since we have been told that she will remain faithful to Rhys, she is suppose to marry him, and that the relationship between Jack and Ianto is something that will be going on through out the season. The only thing I can read into it with out believing/acknowledging the attempt at Gwen/Jack is that he wants that humanity she has, not necessarily her, but her utter belief that things are always good even when its obvious its not. I almost want to believe that Jack is trying to replace his views and feelings of Rose onto Gwen...at least I am trying to fool myself into believing that over the possibility of Gwen/Jack cuz that is just wrong on so many levels.

'and she kisses him in reassurance, only to open her eyes and look directly at Jack, who is staring wistfully at them.' In one of my earlier posts I posted a picture of that scene and I said she was looking at Jack, can I call them or what?

Why, why, why do they keep pushing Gwack? Better yet, why do they keep pushing Gwen full-stop?

I don't care what the writers say, I will NEVER buy that Jack is in love with her.

Agreed. Maybe the reason he's looking wistfully at Gwen/Rhys is because now that he's met him, he fancies the arse off Rhys but feels that he can't betray Gwen. (not that she'd have a problem betraying Ianto by jumping Jack, but Jack is the better person I'm sure we'll all agree)

'Maybe the reason he's looking wistfully at Gwen/Rhys is because now that he's met him, he fancies the arse off Rhys but feels that he can't betray Gwen.' Now that, I would love to see :D

(not that she'd have a problem betraying Ianto by jumping Jack, but Jack is the better person I'm sure we'll all agree) If Jack ever gave her the opportunity she would so betray Ianto, because that is just the kind of caring, compassionate person she is *note the sarcasm*

I heard that the series ends with Gwen broken mentally - I bet that rhys is killed and that leaves the gap between series to decide if Jack and Gwen get together, because I heard they don't get together in this series. But if they do get together I will finish with the show, having the main characters together makes the show go down hill - like CSI Grisson and Sara (to me anyway).

From: [identity profile] love-jackianto.livejournal.com

'But if they do get together I will finish with the show' I'm with you; having the leads get together is just so boring and predictable (why can't the writers see what I truly horrible idea this is). At least we have Fan Fiction, where we can write the endings we want.

From: [identity profile] estarcollector.livejournal.com

Okay, will probably skip this one so all the Gwen doesn't make me physically ill, BUT I'm going to keep my hopes up. Is it possible that maybe Jack is studying her because he wants to have the relationship with Ianto that he believes Gwen has with Rhys? Even though the problem is most likely just too many writers who can't agree on continuity.... *sigh*

From: [identity profile] love-jackianto.livejournal.com

'Is it possible that maybe Jack is studying her because he wants to have the relationship with Ianto that he believes Gwen has with Rhys?' Oooh. I don't care what the writers say I'm sticking with your theory.

Even though the problem is most likely just too many writers who can't agree on continuity.... *sigh* *big sigh*

You know with the amount of times the tart gets kidnapped you'd think she would be resting eternally in the Torchwood morgue by now. Can anyone say Mary Sue? (looks balefully at the description above) Why can't she just die?! If I wanted to be confront by morally high and mighty hypocrites who bemoan everyone else's moral ambiguity while shagging anything in sight I'd still go to church. Oh goodness Jack/Gwen...the very thought makes me want to spew. ...I'll just be visiting my denial place now. Ok rantiness done now = )
