Warning: Spoiler
I didn't mind Gwen in this episode
that really weird Jack and Gwen (in the office) scene. What in the world *was* that?? Was just me or did the actors looking really uncomfortable in that scene? What really bothered me about it was it made seem like Ianto is Jack's second choice (we already knew that Rhys is Gwen second choice). I really hope they don't have Jack cheat on Ianto with Gwen (I will never forgive him).
I think the writers are trying to keep both the Gwackers and the Jack/Ianto shippers happy, don't they know when you try to make everyone happy no one is happy.
I still have yet to figure out how the newest team member got to be in command.
What does everyone else think?

everytime she opened her mouth she annoyed me tbh
AND
there were TWO chances for her to die, and she didn't! >.<
(although captain john is definitely one of my favourite people at the moment, since he's the only one who couldn't care less if she died)

everytime she opened her mouth she annoyed me tbh yeah, me too. Because of the stupid Jack/Gwen scene I no longer like Jack (as far as I'm considered Ianto is nobodies second choice).
(although captain john is definitely one of my favourite people at the moment, since he's the only one who couldn't care less if she died) I second that :D

So much for her humanity when she can't even say a simple thank you to a guy who was presumably her friend as well as her colleague when she was with the police.
And the whole way she was looking at Jack in the 'engagement ring' scene. yeuch, yeuch, yeuch. The whole "You weren't there" "who else would have me" all the while looking at Jack and wanting him to say "I'll have you" Bitch.
And her last words for Jack "Tell him I..."
Bitch bitch bitch. Not a word for her fiance?
Best thing though about the ep (apart from the fact that Ianto got lots to do!) was that Gwen spent so much time paralyzed on the ground, heehee!
(I'll comment more when I'm not supposed to be on the way to work, heehee!)

'Best thing though about the ep (apart from the fact that Ianto got lots to do!) was that Gwen spent so much time paralyzed on the ground, heehee!' I thought that was the best part too:D It would have been better if she would actually have been blown to bits though.

(did my own little commentary over on my LJ comm - cein's comments (http://community.livejournal.com/ceindreadh_fic/19723.html)
And I think I misjudged Gwen slightly in the scene with Andy. Just as she's walking to the tape, she does mumble something that might be a cursory thank you. But still, she's supposed to be so human and full of empathy etc, and she still came across as a rude tosser.

So much for the Gwacker love being sub-text.

Gwen
Here are some of the things I would love the writers to explain---
Why Gwen is in charge.
Why the others accept without question that Gwen is in charge, even though at the end of season one, Owen is second in command.
Why Owen has changed into a different person. In real life this doesn't happen. True, people can learn from their mistakes etc but they do not completely change their character. It was unbelievable.
What on earth were they thinking when they had Jack take Gwen's hand and discover the engagement ring. JB looked embarrassed and Eve did that eye thing which really irritates me. The one where she tries to show emotion by merely making her eyes get bigger and bigger until they look as if they are going to actually pop out of her head on stalks. I for one find this habit of hers really disturbing and worrying and unnatural because none of my family can make their eyes do that.
Gwen's last words where it makes it seem as if she is going to say that she loves Jack. Unbelievable. Disgusting when she is engaged to Rhys. I don't like Rhys {what the hell was he wearing } but really, this was revolting behavior.
On the plus side, Captain John and Jack made a fantastically enjoyable pairing and I wouldn't mind a series devoted to them alone.
Seeing Gwen paralyzed was extremely enjoyable, made even more fun by my 13 year shouting at the screen "leave her there, you idiots" and my husband making groaning noises and swearing in Polish.
I also liked the Blowfish. He stopped at traffic signals too. Not a complete villain then.
It was good too to see Ianto out with the team, and still in a suit!
On the whole though, Gwen didn't impress me at all and I was very glad she spent some of the episode on the ground unable to move. In fact, to me, that is her ideal place in the team--unconscious.

'Why Owen has changed into a different person.' I still can't explain that one....um... alien mind-control??
'Seeing Gwen paralyzed was extremely enjoyable.' Oh yes, very enjoyable. If only she had *actually* been blown to bits.
'In fact, to me, that is her ideal place in the team--unconscious.' hahahaha, you just made my day :D
'Gwen's last words where it makes it seem as if she is going to say that she loves Jack. Unbelievable. Disgusting when she is engaged to Rhys. Is there *anything* about Gwen that is not disgusting.

Clearly aliens abducted him and Gephardtized his brain. He'll be fine once he finds his sunglasses.
What on earth were they thinking when they had Jack take Gwen's hand and discover the engagement ring.
See picture. I <3 Photoshop. Wouldn't be the first time. In her case, it'd be an improvement.
Gwen's last words where it makes it seem as if she is going to say that she loves Jack.
Tell Jack I . . .
Changed his password to a random alphanumeric "because it's so much more secure".
Lost the Post-It with his new password on it, possibly through the Rift.
Resurrected Suzie again. Oops.
Secretly replaced the Retcon with Folgers crystals. Surprise!
Am his father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lost the Rift manipulator key somewhere in the Himalayas.
"Borrowed" the pheromone spray for personal reasons. (why do you think Rhys proposed?)
Trailing sentences beat the heck out of the alternative. (http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x149/Firestorm17/Doctor%20Who%20Macros/gwensring.jpg)

Oh of course she was hoping that, grrrr. And the first look on her face when Jack found the engagement ring, to me that seemed like an "Oh shit, if I'd taken that off, Jack would so be all over me now" Ugh.

Re: Rhys
I feel sorry for both Rhys and Ianto. I will be very surprised if one (or both) of them is not dead by the end of series 2. If Rhys dies how much you want to bet that Gwen jumps into Jack's arms.

Thanks for showing me the way here ^.^ This is a really BIG party going on, lol.
In season 1 I 'liked' Gwen (but I never saw a full episode, I only saw ep201 today) but now I Hate her and I'm not very fond of Jack either. But I think he'll redeem himself to Ianto.
She has no moral! Beeing engaged with Rhys (he seems to be a 'toto' to me, don't know how to say it in english, a person that doesn't see what's around him even when it's banging on his head), trying to get Jack's undying love and devotion ('undying' ehehehe) and telling those horrible words to Ianto!!!! That was the final drop on my glass. Poor Ianto (he looks completly adorable in all episode, really kawaii, beeing so young and all) having to deal with a collegue that seems to be so selfish and to have a special rank on Jacks heart!
I'm joining this Alliance and kick Gwen in all eps from now on.

However, the same person writing that could not be writing Gwen, they just can't be the same person. It's like the character is lving in another fucking series. She doesn't fit at all and seems to be living completely different version of storylines to every other character. To borrow a phrase currently running like wildfire through my school (shame wildfire isn't): SHE BOILS MY PISS.
Sorry for the language. I'm annoyed. Very annoyed.
The writers are trying to keep up viewer numbers by trying to appease everyone: mainstream viewers with Jack/Gwen and unrequited love (mindless idiots) and the core fans who can see Jack/Ianto for what it really is - the shows run away pairing. Ianto wasn't even supposed to survive series one, now he's the run away success of the show, someone somewhere is going to get pissy and I can so fortell another of what happen to Daniel/Michael Shanks in Stargate. /rant

The writers are trying to keep up viewer numbers by trying to appease everyone: mainstream viewers with Jack/Gwen and unrequited love (mindless idiots) and the core fans who can see Jack/Ianto for what it really is - the shows run away pairing. Yes, exactly. I convinced that the writers don't want to admit that Jack/Gwen just does not work(otherwise there would be no need for Gwen) so they are going to keep shoving it down our throats(I'm still convinced they are going to kill off Rhys and/or Ianto), until most of the core fandom gets fed up and leaves, and mainstream viewers are too fickle to keep Torchwood on the air for another series if that happens.
Ianto wasn't even supposed to survive series one, now he's the run away success of the show. Yes and YES!! Not that I'm biased for anything *wink wink*
'Daniel/Michael Shanks in Stargate.' Don't get me started on that.

If they do do a Shanks with Gareth at least we know enough about how this whole thing works and can do a Torchwood version of the "Bring Back Daniel Jackson/Carson Beckett" Campaigns - they were both successful.
Still, lets not prophesise too much.

So, instead we'll get Gwen/Jack after a Ianto/Rhys death or mental breakdown just because that won't offend the mainstream. If that happens it will be the last episode of Torchwood I will ever watch, because then not only will Ianto (and/or)Rhys be died but Jack(as we know him)as well.
'Bring Back Daniel Jackson/Carson Beckett' Campaigns - they were both successful. I hated what they did to Daniel/Carson, who's brilliant idea was it to kill off a popular character anyway? This is exactly the reason I'm convinced Ianto *will* be killed off before Series 2 is over.

Also, very glad to have another person whose not a big fan of RTD. He's good in his own right, he's done very well bringing back Dr Who and Torchwood as a whole is brilliant - then again, he doesn't actually write for them very much either. My problem with him is he seems to think it is his purpose in life to preach about homosexuality and how the gay community should not be treated any differently. Unfortunately everything he does in the end makes the gay community come off terribly and with this he's forcing the heterosexuality too far.

'Either Eve & John or Gwen & Jack have absolutely no chemistry.' I think the biggest problem I have with Jack/Gwen is that whenever they have a scene together the sexual-chemistry just feels very forced. It doesn't help that the writers keep telling us how wonderful Gwen is, but then have her do really horrible things...(see the 'because no one else will have me' line) without giving her character *any* motivation for why she does those things.
I think the chemistry feels off because, as characters, Jack and Gwen are much too similar (they both seem to be extroverts) to have anything other then platonic chemistry; while Ianto is really the mirror of Jack (Ianto is introverted while Jack is extroverted and those different character traits play off each other).
Also, for me at least, John and Gareth both seem to have a clear vision of who their characters are and really express the Jack/Ianto dynamic through subtle body language (see the date scene), while I don't think Eve knows *what* to do with Gwen (maybe because of not having *any* character motivation).
Not that I've been thinking about this or anything ;)
Love your icon, by the way :D

I think you hit the nail on the head. The whole sex with Owen thing, for instance. I get why she did it, but they didn't explain it well. Or believably may be a better word. It's the way she treats Rhys afterwards that's ridiculous. She fucks up so she decides to drug him? Makes perfect sense; two wrongs do make a right, I guess.
As for Jack and Gwen, it just doesn't make sense, and it's cliche in the worst way. If I want to watch an angsty male/female romance, I've got plenty of options to choose from already. I don't know if I can even see Gwen as an extrovert. It seems to me she just stumbles upon things.
Also, one thing that really annoys me. There's a scene, and I forget which episode, but they're all horsing around and playing some stupid game or whatever. It's extremely reminiscent of a scene in Firefly where the crew is playing some form of basketball. Except Gwen's character is just so off there. It doesn't make sense for her to be happy-go-lucky at that point. Gwen is all over the place and I just don't get it.
Jack seems to be too sometimes, for that matter, and although the end of the teaser for last week's opener made for a good cut, and was cute, John Barrowman grin, etc., it felt out of place.
And thanks :D
