But is it me or does Eve's acting and characters seem to be practically the same?
Because i have seen her in three things and her acting doesn't change nor does her characters, they seem to be various degree's of the same character but there is no change.
I mean if you look at John through his roles and Gareth in his, you can see the difference. They become different people and nothing like their other characters, so even though you know its them and who they played, they are just as convinced that they are the other character as well but i just don't see it from her.

"Gwen Like" and sticks with them because, she least to me, she wants to keep that character alive for her.
Take Framed for example. It's bascially the same charater as Gwen from what I saw and in Merlin, underneath the make-up, all I saw was Gwen. It's like she's stuck in the same acting mode.
But that's her fault. She hasn't taken anything that'll challenge her, that'll take her away from the "Gwen".
I've seen Burn and Naoko in other things. Burn in WH, BH to name a few, but I didn't see Owen in the character, all I saw was the character he was playing at the time. The same of Naoko too, Ab Fav, Hackers, but I admit that I saw hackers when it first came out, so her 30 sec. spot impressed me more then did EM has.
John, Gareth, Burn, and Naoko takes control of their characters and makes them their own. Eve dosn't do this. She relies on what she knows and doesn't try to own the character she's playing.
Gale Harold has been quoted as saying: You have to like your character, because if you don't, no one else will either.
In her case, she like her character a little too much and by past interviews, she doesn't care what the fan's think. Hence the roles that she's been accepting are "Gwen like" and as I've stated above that's her fault.

RTD: In this role you'll play Gwenyth
EM: Of course I will.
RTD: In the next one, you'll play Gwen.
EM: I know that, you just loved East Enders, didn't you.
RTD: Yes, I did, didn't I.
The above mentioned is my creation, and my creation alone. But Fair use applies ;).

I have also noticed that a lot of her roles she gets, like DW TW and Merlin, she seems to get them because she knows someone in them or who works on them. What does that say about her acting? LOL!

If she really wanted it, she would have to work at it. But she hasn't seeing she has been type cast as Gwen or Gwen like characters.

I have been reluctant to say too much about this because I kept reading how great she was. I started to think it was just me. Evidently it isn't. According to Harry, actors with limited ranges seek out parts that suit them, that they can do, that will not be too much of a challenge. Maybe Eve falls into that category--I do not know--
It does make me wonder what RTD sees that I do not though---

The thing that is unbelievable it, there is no sign of growth. You can see the change of John and Gareth's acting over the three seasons, but with Eve there is no change at all. I mean, she won't survive if she doesn't work at her acting skills.

Oh well, maybe it's me. I am a conspiracy theory fan. :)

But that is what she said, its hard to tell what the truth is with all the fawning that RTD does over her. lol!

I did see her in DW, and although she wasn't the main character, her "eye popping" acting made quite an impression, but possibly in the WRONG way....
Perhaps I'd like to see her in more (yes, I know I'm a glutton for punishment- I've said this before), just to see if she can tone down that damned "eye popping", cheeky, gappy smile thing. One thing HAS occured to me, though: you can't build a career on this (obviously). The older she gets, the more bizarre and odd this acting style (eye popping etc) will seem to be...It'll turn into one of those 'I'm flirty and 25, but really 45' women things. Mind you, I'm one to talk...!

I think her acting style would be weird at any age, the only thing is, when she hits her 40s with her trying to pretend to 25, it will come across as leachus and won't be very comfortable to watch.
Aww hun, your nothing like her so i wouldn't worry.

TV just doesn't show it, and it's not something that I'm even aware of...until I started watching TV again (because I usually don't, and know lots of people who don't, until we get snowed in, which in Canada, actually isn't ALL the time).
From:
to quote from Scooby Doo, she's 'Too acty'
I first saw EM in the Dr Who episode and I felt nothing for the character. EM as GC infuriates me - but I'm not sure what the % breakdown of that is between the scripting and the acting: all I know is that Gwen is no woman I would ever want to be in the workplace with, for a host of reasons that I won't bore everyone with.
But to get out of the RTD universe and look around - she was ineffectual against Trevor Eve and in Little Dorritt, again, surrounded by some really good UK character actors and actresses - and indeed with a cast that included Freema Agyeman - her performance sank almost without trace ... compare that to, say Guppy in the hands of Burn Gorman in Bleak House. As for Merlin, the whole concept makes me seethe, so I come to it already biased.
There are, no doubt, many actresses worse than EM on tv, but her TW performances always put me in mind of what Gary Sinise said in one of those FiveUS trailers about not modifying his stage acting style for tv, so he was always too much in your face ... and that's what I feel happens especially in TW. She certainly brings nothing sympathetic to the role and quite frankly I don't care what happens to the character at all - well, as long as it's not good ...
