Ok, I just had to share with you guys. I just got back from Best Buy and while there I spotted the Torchwood display. There were seven unsold copies of CoE. Seasons 1 & 2 only had one unsold copy each. Take from that what you will.

Does anyone know how many copies have sold worldwide?

Looks like CoE isn't selling as well as series 1 and 2 are. Humm, wonder why.

I have no idea of the worldwide sales are for CoE but he last time I checked it was going for 16.99 US. that half off the original price. So I'd say not too well.

Not sure, but I'd be asking how many copies of CoE are on Ebay or Amazon's used list to be sold... or possible reviews of CoE. Haven't had hte heart to read them.

Amazon.US has 34 DVD and 18 Blu-Ray; Amazon.UK has 16 DVD and 7 Blu-Ray. eBay had 19 DVD and 9 Blu-Ray.

To clarify the Amazon numbers are from the used/new from section. It doesn't say how many new copies were actually sold or that they have for sale.

Annoyingly, my purchase of CoE added to the BBC's sales figures!! I really wouldn't have bought it, but I saw the first couple of episodes as it was aired and then flew to a part of Africa where there's very little TV. So before I went I ordered the DVD, hoping for a bit of fun and entertainment on my return...little did I realise how the story would unfold! So, me and Mr Wanda1969 watched it when we got back (sadly I had already read reviews by then...). He stated he never wanted to watch it again. I sort of agree with him. Anyone for a secondhand DVD of CoE? All offers considered.

I live in Australia and season 1 and season 2 both cost $99-$110 AU (depending where you shop) here...But CoE is going for a cheap $45...I know it is less discs and all but still!

...Even worse...I think they know Season 3 is going to flop and are trying to make the prices cheap so they will sell a few copies...also I actually have seen season 3 in shops...whereas I only ever see a copy of 1 or 2 rarely

All in all...I think the Beeb is seeing a pattern and getting a little hint

I read some of the reviews on Amazon which make you think if these people actually watched the same TV show. I can't believe anybody could give it 5 stars.

As for the sales I heard rumours that the DVDs are not selling as well as was expected but no exact numbers. I think the biggest sales they made were from fans who pre-ordered the DVDs and quite a few people cancelled these orders after the show aired (which was apparently the reason why HMV started sending the DVDs before the 4th episode aired).

re-were reviewers watching the same show?

On my return to the UK (see above post), they were repeating CoE on BBC3 and The Radio Times (BBC's listings magazine) review stated that CoE "was the best thing that could have happened to Torchwood". I remember the words almost verbatim, as I wrotea rant-y letter to the editor (who no doubt thought I was a nutcase)!
I only pre-oredered (I NEVER pre-order anything- I just wait until there's a special offer at HMV) due to being out of the country for half of the episodes!!! And I'm really quite annoyed about that...

Re: re-were reviewers watching the same show?

They really called it "the best theing that could have happened to Torchwood"? Yikes... I couldn't get through the entire series when they showed in here (in Pennsylvania, so when it hit BBCA). Luckily we only recordered in on the DVR... I thought that CoE didn't live up to S1 and S2, it was missing a couple elements (ie. characters like Tosh and owen) with its usual dark humor.

Re: re-were reviewers watching the same show?

Yep, I've just had a look at the rant-y e-mail I sent to the BBC/Radio Times and I quote the line (which I copied from the magazine review, 8-14 Aug edition), and it was definitely "the best thing that could have happened to Torchwood". I never did receive a proper reply to that e-mail! Perhaps I shouldn't have described the first two series as "Campwood" (a concept which I was more than happy with)!!!!
If I'd been able to contact I would have cancelled my order for the DVD and recorded it myself!

Pity you can't complain and get your money back. After all you can with majority of products and services you pay for. In the case of CoE we definitelly didn't get what we paid for.

Re: the best thing that could have happened to Torchwood

There were few similar I read like "best torchwood season" or "I didn't like season 1 and 2 but I love season 3".

I watched CoE in one go and watched day five only because I hoped that they would bring Ianto back.

I never pre-order anything either, esp as I can get my favourite scenes on YouTube.

Funnily enough, I read this article on my return from my holiday; check out the comment from one poster:

"....firstly, I only started watching Torchwood the other week when CoE aired on BBC Wales, and i have to admit i thort it was fantastic!! It made me a complete Fangirl. However, now having watched Series 1 & 2 i feel that CoE was nowhere near as good!....."

I find it amusing that this viewer went and watched S1 & 2 and then found C0E severely lacking! Ha, RTD!!!

The thing is, even with this happening, if the extra's on the set had been good, people would have brought for the extra's but frankly, they were crap. We had all Eve, not much John and Gareth, no commentries or bloopers, etc, so spending £16 + on something like that, what was the point? We are in an economic crisis, £ 16 + can go to something else more worth it.

Also, with how much RTD, JG and Eve have pissed off the fans, most of them haven't bought and basically told them to screw themselves. I know a lot of janto fans haven't bought it out of protest.

I haven't bought it basically because both me and my mum agreed, it just wasn't worth the money and i wasn't going to put money into TW with what RTD had done to the series. I got all the the scenes i wanted off YT and they are on my PC, i don't have to bother with the dvd or RTD pathetic explanation of what he has done.

I got Day One and Day Two off iTunes for $1.99 each. They were the only ones that were half way decent.

Yeah. It's was either under janto or Jack ianto or Jack and ianto and it comes up with the best of Jack and ianto day whatever.

I was in HMV today and noticed that they had reduced COE to £7.00 which obviously shows just how desperate they are to get rid of them!

COE was the worst TW series so far, and was it just me or did Ianto seem really out of character in that series? Just what was running through RTD's mind when he wrote that?

From: [identity profile] wanda1969.livejournal.com

Blimey! it took AGES for HMV to reduce S2 from about 70 quid to £25- I know, I was looking out for it to get cheaper! It even kept its price last Xmas during the boxed set sale...
You may be interested in my reply to severia, above, a bout a viewer who saw CoE, thought it was great, and then saw S1&2....

7.00 pounds. Yep they must be very despreate to get rid of it.
