Title: Exchange Program: Parts 6

Rating: PG-13?

Notes: Gwen bashing yet not Gwen bashing. Figure that one out. J.K. Rowling-esque Epilogue, only without the awkwardness of the 19 years passing and lack of reason for pairings.
Warning: Possibly language.

Spoilers: At the moment, none.

Summary: With Torchwood anything is possible. In this case, Torchwood Three had the chance to meet a very interesting woman.

6. Epilogue

In the first month since alternate Gwen’s impromptu trip, a few drastic changes took place in Gwen Cooper’s life. Her first night back home began with a determined Rhys Williams finally putting his foot down, squaring his shoulders, and confronted her about the nature of their relationship and what she really did at her job. It ended with an angry Rhys calmly informing her that their engagement was off and she had three days to move out of his flat and if she wasn’t he would put her stuff out on the curb. The next day she was called to Jack’s office as soon as she arrived and informed that her performance in the field and in carrying her own weight in the Hub was appalling and that she needed to shape up before he had to take drastic measures. For week she ignored his warning and found herself in boot camp and learning Torchwood protocols at night from three senior members of Torchwood Two, who Jack had asked to do this since he couldn’t spare Ianto or Tosh. Unfortunately she had neglected reading the contract Ianto had her sign before being shipped out, which stated that she would have to pass the competency test that Torchwood Two administered to its employees and then pass her six month review.

Six months later Rhys met an aspiring writer at a local café, first striking up a friendship before they both kicked their relationship to the level of truly dating. His family absolutely adored his new girlfriend and on New Year’s Eve, at midnight, he asked her to marry him in front of their friends at a party at his flat. On March 16, three and half months later, they were married and by the end of the month they were expecting their first child as well as the publication of her murder mystery book.

It was now two years later and Gwen was still working at Torchwood Two as an intern and striving towards gaining both a good review and passing her competency test. Jack decided that his team needed expanding and went on to hire Andy Davidson, who had quit the force after passing the tests to be a certified private investigator, as well as a crypto-zoologist and a hacker the government had screwed over. They worked well in the group dynamic, from the arguments Owen had with the crypto-zoologist to the comparing of notes that frequently happened between Tosh and the hacker.

Jack leaned back in his chair with a grin and glanced over to where Ianto was sprawled out on the couch in his office, taking a much-needed break from his work. “It is too bad we couldn’t keep the other Gwen here.” He commented as Ianto snorted.

“I think she did stay here, since she did leave a lasting mark.” Ianto told him as he rolled on to his side, facing Jack, with his head pillowed on his arm. “She helped change things for the better.”

“Rhys is happily married to an infamous writer with three kids and became an editor to help his wife out and our team grew and gained more talent and quick minds. Do you think we would have thought to approach the lovely crypto-zoologist, Dr. Wynters, or the burned hacker, Mr. Hunter?” Jack asked his lover, who was silent.

“Probably not. How is Torchwood Two faring with Gwen?” he asked as Jack sighed.

“Last I spoke with Archie, he says that the boot camp instilled some needed discipline in her but she still refuses to accept that she is not the leader and that she has to work her way up through the ranks.” He answered, practically repeating what Archie had told him. “He thinks she has the potential to be a great field agent, if only she would not fly off the handle and disobey orders without having good reason.”

“It helps that he doesn’t have a biased against her, out right hates her, or has slept with her.” Ianto muttered and drifted off to sleep as Jack grinned. If he ever got to meet Gwendolen Cooper again, he wore he was going to buy her a drink as a thank you.

Oh, wonderful! I love happy endings and it's good to have Rhys married to someone who truly appreciates him. Always thought Andy would fit in well with the Torchwood team. I hope Alternate Gwen got a happy ending too!
