This is the first time I've actually decided to post anything I've written to a community. The only real warning I have for this is that the idea just popped into my head and I haven't seen it done yet. I hope it will not be that long and I welcome any feedback on it or ideas people may like to see.

Title: Exchange Program

Rating: PG-13?

Notes: Gwen bashing yet not Gwen bashing. Figure that one out. Fixed a few issues with the beginning, since it did not go well with what I later wrote.

Spoilers: At the moment, none.

Summary: With Torchwood anything is possible. In this case, Torchwood Three had the chance to meet a very interesting woman.

1. For Every Ending…

These next pages in this journal deal with an impromptu trip I took three years ago. Usually I do not go back and add these notes, on folded pieces of paper, because it ruins the neatness of my journal and the additional notes could get lost. Unfortunately I had to this time because I was finally able to read all the other reports of what happened in the five days I was absent due to an alien device and felt that everything that had been sealed,  for a period of three years, had to be brought together in some way with what I seen. Included in this journal are copies of the reports from within this Agency as well as the a copy of the ones that Captain Harkness and his team at Torchwood Three filed for their own archives. None of these reports will be filed in the digital archives or even the physical archives because… it was a dark day for everyone involved and they really don't want future generations to know what happened. In that respect my report was never made because I didn't want to tell them a few things and they had enough on their shoulders in relation to cleaning things up.

Why did I break the protocol that I try to uphold?

I would like to think that what I did during that time was personal, thankfully everyone that works here at the Agency trusted my decision. I never understood why they did not argue against it, or really why they had planned such an extravagant party in under twenty minutes, but having finally read those reports I think they had a very bad idea of what I was shoved into. Then again, they almost hung their unexpected guest on the gallows they had secretly built in the recreation room…

I suppose now the question I should answer would be, “What happened?”

It was approximately 14:39 on August 25, 2013 and I was in the process of transporting an alien device, turned over to us by Torchwood Three, into the Agency high-security storage. Murphy’s Law kicked in and it suddenly activated and I found myself standing in the middle of The Hub of Torchwood Three, but not the one I was familiar with, facing people that I have not seen in at least five years.

Toshiko Sato, still wearing those glasses that reminded me of a professor I had in university.

Owen Harper, who still looked as sour as ever in his white lab coat.

Ianto Jones, still looking good in his suits and unflappable as ever.

Last was Captain Jack Harkness, only he had a few less lines around his eyes.

Ghosts of my past and the reason for the constant ache in my chest when their death days came around or when I came across their photos in my collection. The first thing that told me that something was not right with the situation was the shocked stares before Owen spoke up.

“Gwen, you got older. What the bloody hell did you screw up now?”

I wonder if I was this ignorant of changes. Sure he realized I was older, but why didn’t they question on why I was standing in front of them with a clear glass box, displaying the alien device laying on a white cotton looking fiber, in my gloved hands. This means of storage wasn’t in any protocol that Torchwood had, which should have tipped them off.

Thankfully Ianto was a bit quicker then Owen.

Intriguing start! Looking forward to seeing where you take this idea - it's certainly different.
