Authors notes: For the Gwen bashing prompt table under the word GLOW
A quiet day at Torchwood was broken by one Jack Harkness leaning over the barrier outside his office and yelling, “TOSH! Can you come up here for a moment.”
Tosh glanced up from her workstation, and quickly complied, leaving a curious Owen and Gwen in her wake. A few minutes later, she returned with a slight smile on her face and after a brief look at Gwen, she settled herself back in front of her computer.
A little while later, Jack with Ianto right behind him, came sauntering down the stairs. Glancing towards Ianto, Gwen was not surprised to see one of his tea-trays in his hand. But instead of mugs of his heavenly coffee on it there was a small pear-shaped bottle with what looked like golden glow swirling inside it.
“Okay! Ladies.”
“Oi Harkness! Watch who you’re calling a lady.”
After giving the doctor a withering look, Jack continued, “Okay, ladies,” then gesturing to the little bottle, “this fell through the rift last night and with help from our computer wizard we’ve set up an analysis. So I don’t want anyone touching it until it’s finished.”
Gazing at the bottle almost mesmerized by the swirling glow within it she heard the warning coming from Jack. But as was usual Gwen wanted to look inside and she didn’t want to wait. So when the team decided to go down to their local for a quiet lunch, she lagged behind with the excuse that she’s forgotten her mobile.
Watching her four team-mates leaving for the impromptu lunch and throwing some vague reply to the question “Are you coming?” she walked over to Tosh’s desk and picked up the little bottle. Startled by Myfanwy screeching overhead *she swore that bird hated her* she dropped the bottle and as if in slow motion it shattered…
Panicking somewhat, she tried waving the golden glow that enveloped her, away, and was relieved when it began to disperse. The thought of what Jack would say never crossed her mind, she was Gwen his obvious favourite he’d forgive her anything. So shrugging slightly she gathered up her mobile and followed the team to lunch.

Returning from lunch, Tosh glanced at the shards of glass surrounding her workstation and noticing the severe lack of little bottles in the area. She glared at Gwen and asked, “What the hell did you do? We hadn’t finished our analysis of it.”
Batting her eyelashes and gazing up at Jack with deep soulful eyes, Gwen murmured, “It wasn’t my fault. Myfanwy startled me.”
“Did you feel any effect from the gas?” Ianto asked curiously.
“Not a thing. I feel perfectly fine.”
Owen sighed and said, “Well lets go take a look at you, just to be on the safe side.”
As Gwen and Owen headed down to the medical bay, Jack turned to Ianto and asked, “How long will it take before it begins to affect her?”
“From the results of our tests I would say probably an hour or so, maybe even less.”
Jack grinned and replied, “Good old reliable Gwen, you’ve gotta love the stupidity of her. I have a feeling the next few days are going to be very enlightening.” Both Tosh and Ianto nodded in agreement.

A short while later, once Owen and Gwen returned slightly mussed and Owen pronounced her physically fit.
Looking across at Ianto then winking, Jack asked, “Gwen have you finished that report I gave you?”
Putting on her sickly sweet smile she replied, “No Jack I’ve been to busy making my hair just so, it doesn’t get this bouncy on it’s own you know.” A look of horror crossed her face as she clapped her hand over her mouth. “What’s happening to me?”
With a certain amount of relish Jack replied, “That would be the contents of that bottle taking effect. It’s an alien form of truth drug.”
Glaring at her team-mates and dropping her Mary Sue act, Gwen snarled, “You! You all knew. How am I supposed to do my job?”
“Well Gwen, from what you’ve said, you don’t do your job. So I doubt if we’ll see much change.”
With a slow smile, Owen asked, “So Gwen tell us what you REALLY think about us?”
Through gritted teeth she replied, “I. Think. You’re. All. A. bunch. Of. Gullible. Idiots.” shaking her head she began to walk away.
“Gwen, stop!” Hearing the edge of steel in her boss’ voice she stopped and turned slowly to face the music. “I would really like you to explain THAT statement?”
Taking a deep breath and turning to Jack, Gwen replied, “Well think about it. You recruited me to replace Susie after the crazy bitch shot herself, but I’m not exactly doing her job. Am I? She was a weapons and alien technology expert, and until I came here I couldn’t even fire a gun. My job is obsolete even I know that but because you want the ‘human element’ I get a cushy, important job, which lets me lord it over all those who used to be my superiors. But I know you won’t sack me and throw me out because Recton doesn’t work on me as you already know and also I’m your soul-mate who you can’t live without.”
A look of disgust settled on Jack’s face as he replied to Gwen’s tirade. “First and most importantly you are not and will never be my soul-mate or anything remotely close to that,” pointing at Ianto he continued, “HE is my soul-mate, life partner and equal. You are what I can only describe as an indulgence on my part and a mistake I intend to rectify as soon as possible. Now concerning the Recton I’m useless with administering it unlike the true master,” gesturing once again to Ianto, “now the only question that needs to be answered is do you want to lose the last year of your life or the last ten?”
