OMG, I'm a n00b and I was just reading the backlog posts, the one where Eve Myles said that Gwen is "all business, as opposed to Jack and Ianto, who are sort of the comic relief.", and holy super duper gay culture reference Midnighter! Eve Harrington!
All About Eve (1950)
That was the movie where her awesomeness Bette Davis, who puts both Drop Dead and Gorgeous into Drop Dead Gorgeous (she took up arms against the freezing practices of her film company), plays the aging actress Margo Channing.
I don't think Gwen is in love with Jack after all, she certainly doesn't give a fuck about his feeling, rather, she wants to suck up all that she can learn about his life and take over, which is what she does. In the season one, I liked Gwen and Jack as parallels...especially cause their long suffering spouses, Rhys and Ianto, are actually alike, in which case, along with Jack's life, I could so see Gwen trying to steal Ianto like Eve tried to steal Margo's BF in the movie, and then miffed when they are rejected. Ianto was the only one who wasn't romantically charmed by Gwen, but I don't think Ianto saw Gwen as ebil either. Likewise, Margo's BF, Bill, was very defensive of Eve the Little Girl Lost...up until the point that Eve hits on him, because Bill is in love and devoted to Margo. At which point he walks away from Eve in visible disgust. If you haven't yet, totally see the movie, because Margo/Bill is awesome, I especially like the Unconventionality where she's older than him by seven years, and also why Eve thinks he'll be so easy to steal, but ha-ha, some man have good taste.
...and ha, doesn't the following dialogue from the film Remind You of Anything?;
Margo Channing: She thinks only of me, doesn't she?
Birdie: Well, let's say she thinks only about you, anyway.
Margo Channing: How do you mean that?
Birdie: I'll tell you how: like... like she's studying you, like you was a play or a book or a set of blueprints - how you walk, talk, eat, think, sleep...
Margo Channing: I'm sure that's very flattering, Birdie. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGINFINITY
ETA: That said, as much as Eve Myles has annoyed me by now, I think she'll be able to win awards in the role of Eve Harrington. I know if I have a million dollars I would remake All About Eve with John Barrowman in Margo Channing's role, come on, it's 2009.

Never seen this movie, but as I do not think Eve Myles is a terrible good actor I can't see her playing any role that requires real serious hard acting. This is just my opinion of course but I have done some acting myself {as a kid back home}.

I agree with jennelldhairbj Eve Myles is not a very good Actress and seems to be stuck in one expression or mode of emotion, i.e Framed.

still it contains one of my favorite movie lines of all time from margo 'fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy ride'. i believe that eve is going to find it is going to get very bumpy soon.

re: All About Eve
[Margo is getting drunk at the party]
Bill Sampson: Many of your guests have been wondering when they may be permitted to view the body. Where has it been laid out?
Margo Channing: It hasn't been laid out, we haven't finished with the embalming. As a matter of fact, you're looking at it - the remains of Margo Channing, sitting up. It is my last wish to be buried sitting up.
BILL (trying to kid her out of
it)
Wouldn't you feel more natural
taking a bow?
MARGO
You know nothing about feelings,
natural or unnatural.
BILL
Then without feeling, your guests
were also wondering whether the
music couldn't be a shade more on
the - shall we say, happier side?
MARGO
If my guests do not like it here, I
suggest they accompany you to the
nursery where I'm sure you will all
feel more at home.
...and the Torchwood cast in All About Eve
John Barrowman as Margo Channing
Eve Myles as Eve Harrington, it's a remake, it could be one where the audience and many people know she ain't snow, but than she sneaks up on you.
Naoko Mori as Karen Richards
Burn Gorman as Lloyd Richards
...especially because Lloyd briefly slept with Eve before realising she has no soul and went back to Karen.
If Mori can play Tosh, she can play Karen, the sweet bestfriend who nonetheless played Margo when she was being too much of a drama queen, but than she sticks by her BFF when Eve rears her snake head.
