Just found an interesting article that RTD was talking about CoE, read the whole piece.

io9.com/5324964/we-asked-russell-t-davies-our-most-pressing-doctor-who-question

If you read both what he said about 'Rose' and 'Ianto', Is it me or does he seem to contradict himself in a very large way?? or maybe I'm looking too much into it.

Alas, the site smacks down IE. What does the self-absorbed one say?

ah, the wonders of idiocy. or 'why RTD should just shut the hell up.' he is so self-absorbed and sure his scat don't stink that he doesn't even notice how he contradicts himself.

but, it should be pointed out that the interview was at ComicCon which is before the "save the coffee boy" fundraisers really started. you will notice, RTD has kept his enormous mouth shut since that time?

yeah.

most important bit to pick up from that interview is that RTD wants to keep to the mini series format. that means if TW is picked up for any future productions, he's going to want more of that style of over-the-top not-really-torchwood melodrama.

answers that question.

I think the reason he wants to keep that format is basically because he has lost his touch and he can't right as well as he did and by keeping that format, he really doesn;t have to try to keep a plot at all. He can do all the high action and high drama but very little back story and character growth, aka, very little work for him.

I also realise that i might be being a bitch, lol.

I also agree with the whole thing over it being at comic con, i thin this was done long before he met the fans and found out exactly what they thought of him, so that is why he was being nice because if you notice the ones that come during and after comic con, he has gotten a hell of a lot worse and is attacking the fans than he did before hand. He probably thought he would go there and people will love him and rapidly found out that they didn't love him and they were pissed at him.

Oh, so Mr. Davies doesn't believe in replacements, so he shot the doctor who was supposed to replace Owen. Who was Lois Habiba if not replacement for Ianto even before he died?

And how come if Torchwood is such a dark place, where everybody dies young, Gwen is not dead yet? Compared to Ianto she got into much more death/life situations and still she is alive while Ianto is dead.

if you look at the string of shows RTD has produced, he invariably creates one character that we're all supposed to 'love' but said character is usually an utter bastard or bitch who totally fails to mature or grow while all of the surrounding characters are systematically destroyed- usually by the direction action or indifference of the main character.

for Torchwood it's Gwen.
Doctor Who it's the blond bimbo
Queer as Folk it was Stuart

it's the RTD formula.

I doubt he realises just how truly pathetic he sounds. Just because the coffee campaign didn't take off doesn't mean that everyone loved what he did to the show.

I have a theory, though. According to him and his fellow producers, etc, killing Ianto was all about drama, and deconstructing Jack back to square one. If that's the case, then that indicates that Gwen means absolutely nothing to him.

That, and I still hold to the belief that RTD needs to follow his own directive, and kill off Gwen in series 4. Otherwise, he's only proving our belief that he's a hypocrite.

The problem is, a great many folk think RTD is a great writer. However, my next door neighbor told me that he just gets his Sci-fi ideas from other shows, some of them from quite a long time ago. She is a Sci-fi fan and has been everywhere and met everyone. She says she will make a list of where the COE ideas came from. According to her, RTD takes a theme from another show and alters it just a bit to avoid being accused of plagiarism. He assumes, quite correctly as it happens, that hardly anyone will notice.

Thus he isn't a great writer, or even a good one. He is in the same league as Uni students who copy stuff from the Web and put it into their essays as their own having just changed a little bit of it.

As for Torchwood. James Moran received some criticism for his episode which killed Ianto, and his response was to say he wrote for himself and bugger everyone else {in politer words}. This wasn't true anyhow, because all the writers meet under RTD and discuss in a group what they are going to write and the themes, and then they all write what RTD tells them to. I any case, I was under the impression that they wrote for the BBC.

As for Gwen, RTD intended all along to write the Gwen show and has now succeeded, and, judging by other sites, most folk are quite happy with the idea. In my opinion, Ianto's death was sloppy writing but most folk appear to think COE was great drama and the writing was wonderful.

On Gallifrey people are now saying that Gwen will make a new team and Jack will return later in Season 4 and will have to prove himself to her. At one time a lot of them disliked her but they are now firmly RTD and Gwen fans having been successfully brainwashed.

Stubborn little me remains a Gwen loather however and I still say that COE was CRAP---well acted and directed but CRAP.

the more interviews rtd gives the more i am positive he is an idiot or a liar .

This is one of the clearest examples of RTD contradicting himself. What's so funny is that it's in the same article.
Mr. "doesn't care what the fans think" admits to bringing Rose back several times because the ratings warranted it,and she was "popular". When people say "you're always bringing back characters he tells them he's going to "count his millions."
Yet Ianto HAS to stay dead or it will cheapen his sacrifice? I think this shows why the campaign to get Ianto back can work. If the BBC thinks he's popular enough he would be brought back, and RTD could go count his millions when people ask about it.
It's interesting that Jack dies and comes back all the time, yet no one would say that his sacrifices are diminished by his resurrections. Certainly his first resurrection didn't cheapen what he did on the game station.
It's also funny that they keep talking about how Jack had to be broken by Ianto's death before he would give up his grandson, when Jack has shown time after time that he'd do whatever was necessary for the "greater good."

He lied about the coffee campaign. I know because I'm part of it.
People have been sending in coffee from all over, and we're still doing it!
Someone from the savecoffeeboy comm. has written to the BBC to get the count under the freedom of information act.
So if anyone wants to join, please don't let RTD's lies discourage you from doing so(we're also sending letters, cards, etc to the BBC in addition to sending coffee)>

I feel bad that reading all of this has actually made me feel so angry!

What's p-ing me off the most is that fact that as far as i'm concerned RTD didn't give Ianto a big sacrifise to make, i've only watched ep 4 the once so i ma be wrong, but the way i remember it the outcome would have been the exact same whether Ianto entered the bulding with Jack or not.... besides the fact he'd still be alive of course....

RTD really needs to take a step back and think over whast he's written so far, it just doesn't make sense sticking to the new format bec ause it was sucessful, when the old format was what made theshow up... and of course COE got higher ratings, it was prime time on the #1 channel every night for a week, even if it was crap (whicgh i'm not entirely convinced it wasn't) it would have probally still got quite high ratings.

Every time i read more from him he's making me want to even attempt watching series 4 less and less...
