okay here we go and yes it's the lurker again *grin*

no.1)Episode 13 It peed me off big time when she continued to sit beside Jack completely ignoring the fact that someone else *coughiantocough* would have wanted to sit beside him.

no.2)Episode 11 Admitting to Rhys that she cheated and then rectonning him to avoid the consequences.

no.3)Episode 10 Taking a young girl from the 50's to a nightclub and then LEAVING her on her own (and need I remind people about Rhys' naked arse which we wouldn't have had inflicted upon us if it wasn't for her)

no.4)Episode 9 All of it! sorry but it was horrible and boring and nothing but her.

no.5)Episode 7 The patronising way she treated Tosh including hr jibe at what Tosh was wearing.

no.6)Episode 6 Two instances her insisting that Jack spare the cannibal and her "When was your last snog?" question.

no.7)Episode 5 After Jack lost Estelle and was obviously devastated she wouldn't leave him alone to grieve again she was too inerested in knowing stuff.

no.8)Episode 4 Kissing Owen *ugh*

no.9)Episode 3 Jack teaching her to shoot *Ianto where are you*

no.10)Episode 2 Her self righteous attitude when they were eating and she heard Carys crying (it was her fault she was there in the first place)

All for now and I have writers (or typers) cramp

hMm, how to narrow it down to just 10!
Okay, in episode order (since I don't want to spoil my good mood by thinking about Gwen too much this evening)

1. episode 1, lying to Rhys both about being at the first crime scene and then about having to work late.

2. Being so holier than thou when everybody was eating the chinese food "How can we eat when there's a girl fighting for her life" It's like she's the only one who really cares (puke)

3. After all the lectures she's heard about taking tech out of the hub, she goes home and plays with the Ghost Machine thingy.

4. Completely ignoring Ianto in the opening scene to Cyberwoman (although the rest of them did too). Then the way she just stood there and watched Lisa kill Jack, instead of I don't know, getting away like she was told to do.

5. Not leaving Jack alone with his grief after Estelle died. Come on bitch, give him at least a minute to deal with it before coming at him with your smug questions.

6. That stupid 'who did you snog' game. For starters it's a game for people who are either very young or very drunk and rather than having it come across as Gwen wanting to know more about her colleagues, to me it felt like she was bragging about how great her life was. Then she had the nerve to get miffed when Owen actually replied honestly to it. And even then when she'd just been reminded of Cyberwoman, she still didn't even remember Lisa or think that maybe it was just a little tactless to be playing that game when Ianto was still grieving her.
Yet again making it all about her "I must know why they did it"
And of course the biggie, her cheating on Rhys and justifying it by saying she'd got nobody to talk to about Torchwood stuff. Bullshit. If she'd wanted somebody to talk to, she'd have gone to Tosh or Jack. But she wanted to get laid, pure and simple, that's why she went to Owen.

7. Her mean thoughts about Tosh's fashion sense. Her continuing affair with Owen.

8. Yet again her opinion that she's the only one who cares at all about anything other than aliens. Shut up Gwen, Jack had no idea that Susie was going to go gaga over the glove.

9. Episode 9 aka the everybody loves Gwen hour (pardon me while I fetch a bucket). Newsflash Gwen, there's a whole police force out there who's job it is to investigate people getting hit by cars. It's only Torchwood's responsibility if the car was driven by an alien.

10. Yes Gwen, you're really the best person to be teaching morals to an innocent girl. And honestly, if you have to lie (and I'll agree that she couldn't tell Rhys the truth) why must you come up with an unnecessarily complicated lie that's going to be easily found out.

11. Let's see, drugging Rhys so she can confess without having to do pennance for her sins. If I was putting these in order, this would be the absolute biggie. I can't belief that TPTB seriously think that we're supposed to like and cheer for Gween after she did this. And she couldn't even get the dosages right.

12. Actually I don't think she was too annoying in this ep, probably because of them all this is the one where she's got least screen time.

13. (rips hair out at the memory)
Where does one start in this episode? Her assaulting of Rhys (taser), kidnapping and locking him in a cell? (and thereby putting him in more danger). Leading the mutiny against Jack. Assaulting Jack just because he told the truth about her and Owen? Sitting by Jack's side and not letting anybody else have their chance?
And then the biggie, the fact that of all the team , she's the only one that hasn't had to make any sacrifice.
Jack loses Estelle, Owen loses Diane, Tosh - Mary, Ianto - Lisa. But oh so bloody special Gwen gets to have Rhys and live happily ever after. (puke)

Annoying moments of Gwen

Difficult to list top ten as almost every moment I see her I am annoyed. However, the fact that her partner in ep.1 knows about Torchwood and she doesn't was annoying because if she's so great-how come she doesn't know and he does? This was the first time we saw her and I was annoyed with her then-I thought she was an idiot. Then we saw her running around chasing after Jack-which she does a lot- and that annoyed me too.
However, I think the most annoying Gwen was when she saved the life of a mad cannibal because she wanted to know why he did it!! There we were all shouting "Shoot him" and he ended up alive talking to Gwen.

More so than being annoyed at Gwen I am annoyed at the writers for the ridiculously contrary portrayl of someone they pass off as amazing and wonderful and compassionate when she's cheating, lying and inept. The writers and even RTD keep mentioning how they couldn't kill of Rhys as it'd ruin the Gwen character and she loves him yet she's acting like a whore. Grr. Still, I'll have a go, may go over 10 though... there are so many after all.

1. Throwing objects around an alien boulder. Sure, Jack and Owen do it but they know each other, therefore, more in tune. Idiot.

2. Taking Suzie out of the Hub - excuse me, psycho tried to kill you so you take her to visit her Dad? Uh-huh, real smart.

3. Using the glove rather than Ianto when we all know Ianto is the more empathic one - Tosh and her mind reading proves it.

4. Leaving Emma alone in a club to snog her boyfriend whom she's cheating on. So far Gwen isn't coming off very smart in this list is she.

5. All high and mighty moral moment with Tosh. She was right, she couldn't judge, Tosh, however has much more of a right to. She was manipulated, Gwen does it all under her own bearing.

6. High and mighty moments with Jack. All of them. Particularly the faeries episode.

7. The way she makes Ianto's grief all about her. Asking if Jack would shoot her if he was in Ianto's place. Plus the condescending way she looks down at him whilst standing next to Jack.

8. Stealing a kiss from dead Jack. No one touches Ianto's property.

9. Her getting uhffy over Owen and Diane - she had a BOYFRIEND!

And finally number 10, which is more a dig at the writers but at Gwen as well:
10. That soppy way she looks at Jack as he comes through the door with that ridiculous music playing about findnig the one you were meant to be with.
*coughs and adds 11*
11. Waiting by Jack in the mortuary when he died saving the world because she helped kill him to get back her boyfriend whom she was cheating on. (Notice Ianto was the only one to go to Jack when that happened)

Grr. Died, Gwen, Die.

Re: The kiss that awoke Jack

Her ability to co-ordinate activity has led to her being recognized as the team's deputy leader.

??????????
You have got to be kidding me????
If anybody has the ability to co-ordinate things properly it's Ianto. Let's see, he hid a cyberwoman in the basement, kept the hub running smoothly, cleans up after the team etc.
Hell, Gwen can barely co-ordinate her sex life properly. Aghhhh!!!!!

The kiss that awoke Jack

On another site, which shall remain nameless, I suggested that RTD as a writer had one major fault and that was, no matter how good he was in other respects, in everything he writes he becomes obsessive about one character. Not necessarily a character everyone else finds agreeable either. This is the explanation for Gwen. It is simply that RTD is obsessed with the Character and will never be able to see that many people do not like her. This affects every writer for the Program, of course, because they have to try to stay within accepted canon.

This resulted in a huge personal attack from numerous people and then a BAN from the site. I was under the impression that Britain was a free country and this gave me a huge shock, especially as I am not exactly an uneducated person. I have two Honors degrees in Mathematics. I have studied accountancy and have letters after my name and speak four languages.

The theme of the attacks was generally that, as a mere normal human, and not even a mere normal British human, I had no right to criticize a wonderful writer like RTD.However, I did not say that RTD was a bad writer. I merely said that he has this particular flaw and for me it was ruining Torchwood.

The unfortunate fact is, Gwen as a character is very badly and inconsistently written, and this is doing a disservice to Eve Myles who is a good actor. Very little that Gwen does actually reflects her canon position as the conscience of Torchwood and the heart of the team and this is directly a result of bad scripts.

A writer cannot make a character lie, cheat and generally behave like an idiot time after time and then say that she is the accepted second in command of the Team because of her reliability and general magnificence as a leader and expect anyone of any intelligence at all to accept this without question.

The oft repeated remark that the writers had accepted there were mistakes made with some of the characters in Season one lead me to think that Gwen would be different in Season two and that the writers had recognized the errors they made with her in the first season.

Alas, I then read this--She is grounded, straightforward and very determined, and in the murky world of Torchwood she often acts as the team's conscience. Her ability to co-ordinate activity has led to her being recognized as the team's deputy leader.

I had to read it twice because it was so devoid of any sense as I perceived it. The only bit I agreed with was the very determined--certainly true. I was under the impression that Gwen's behavior toward Rhys, a superfluous character introduced to show the dim that Gwen had a life, meant that what she didn't have was any conscience at all. I also didn't see much evidence of her coordinating anything.

As for that kiss---- everyone I knew that watched the program were surprised that Ianto didn't stay with Jack at the end but was reduced to sniffing his coat. Personally I would have thought that a kiss from Gwen would have been the END literally. This was another piece of evidence of the obsession with Gwen thing. I was also upset that Gwen had more air time than Jack as I had been lead to believe the program was Torchwood--not the adventures of Gwen Cooper.

If anyone disagrees with my RTD comments and thinks he is magnificent please don't flood me with moans because I have had it all before and I am 8 months pregnant. I just wanted to have a moan as I feel strongly that the Gwen obsession is going to ruin the program. If not for everyone then for a lot of people.

I don't think JB is able to give an objective view of the affect Gwen has on Torchwood viewers simply because he is too close to things.
Also, I love JB and think he's great but I have to say that he has never seemed to me to be exactly intellectual.
