We are not going to skitter around in the darkness, allowing Trolls to drive us underground. As a community, we come together to hate the fictional character of former WPC Gwen Cooper in a manner which no way affects other fans of the show. We air our views without hiding behind a childish and cowardly anonymity that implies a lack of pride and conviction in the views they themselves are expressing. We will not permit these puerile trouble makers to force us to feel as if we have to act ashamed of our views, which is what locking down this community would imply, and we will not give them the satisfaction of being able to crow that they forced us to run with our tails between our legs. We do not run, we do not hide, and we put our names to our views to indicate that we stand by them.

They call us misogynistic, in relation to our views, but as Gwen is quite patently the biggest Mary Sue in the history of cannon television, they cannot claim misogyny, when the creator of Sue, was MALE.

They decry us describing her as a slut or a whore, but her behavior throughout all three series did nothing to suggest anything else of her character, she cheated on her fiancé with another man, when she finally felt guilty enough to confess her misdeed to him, instead of accepting his anger, as any self respecting woman who had cheated on a partner would do, and begging his forgiveness, she retconned him. She then spent the remaining time making eyes at another man, at times either blatantly in front of said fiancé, or Jack's own partner, a relationship she could have had no doubt of the existence of after seeing them 'playing naked hide and seek'.

We can point out example after example to prove our views on Gwen if necessary, what do these anonymous trolls have, aside from wishful thinking? Jack's fascination with Gwen was never sexual, that was all on her side through all three series.

So, in conclusion; we will not run, we will not hide,
                                we hate Gwen, and say it with pride.

after thinking about a lock-down i have changed my mind. the same people who defend rtd against charges of homophobia(he approved the gay-bashing theme in coe) because he is a gay man but have no problem painting us being misogynists(strange no one can cite tosh or suzie bashing in our fics,oops are they not women too) despite the fact most of us are women because we refuse to worship at the temple of gwen. in reading through the non ag fic(in my opinion that includes same of the best torchwood writers) our members leave the gwen bashing here and write gwen in a more positive light then torchwood writers do as opposed to the ianto(in many cases that extend to gdl as person) bashing on the lists including those that are dedicated to janto.

I agree, I have read some horrific Janto bashing from people who claim they like Janto pairing, and people don't say anything to them but as soon as it's anti Gwen thats when it becomes like a minefield, I've already been called some bad names for my views on Gwen, when people who have been bashing the other characters get bloody praised. Im one of those people that leave the ag fics here and post slightly different versions on the other comms because of what the other users say to me and i'm sure to others about their fics as well.

Forgive me for being a bit dim here, but as a non native English speaker I looked up misogynist and found it meant hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women. WOMEN--not one woman.

Whoever said disliking Gwen made someone a misogynist obviously did not know what the word meant.

As it is I have invented a word for dislike of Gwen--misogwene which is very similar to the original word.

Oh, my! I go off for a week of holidays, and miss all the drama...

I must admit that I was tending towards locking at first - I've met too much nastiness in other fandoms and am, quite frankly, too tired to put up with that sort of abuse any longer. But the others who said that such people would find a way in anyway are right. And I'm proud of hating Gwen, too.
