Ultimately the audience want you (Gwen) and Jack to get together. The tension between the two characters is one of the key dynamics of the show.
WTF?!

No she's just saying it because she's the only one who's 100% got a job if the series comes back. Grrr. That interview annoyed me, made Torchwood seem like the Gwen/Jack/Rhys triangle, what about Tosh, Owen and Ianto?

On cable there are whole shows devoted to those relationships. I could see the relationship between Jack and Ianto being normalized in the media, even if it starts out by being sensationalized at first.
I think the bottom line is if the people will watch it,the networks will show it.

I think that maybe the BBC or RTD has a view of America that's different from the way we actually are,and are marketing the show accordingly.

Kings had a main character who was gay and had relationships with men,one in particular.
There are gay people on several network shows, not necessarily in couples, though.
As far as networks go, I have to say that the soap operas have done better than night time shows in having gay couples. As The World Turns, All My Children and the Guiding Light have featured or are featuring gay couples.
I was thinking more in terms of cable in my response, since BBCA isn't one of the channels everyone can get. On cable there are the stations LOGO and HERE,and their focus is on same sex stories/relationships. On Showtime there've been series like The L Word and Queer As Folk that were very popular. That's also true of HBO. I watch mostly cable,so I'm not sure if there are more network examples of same sex couples on network tv.

Its just one more thing that annoys me about Torchwood trying to appeal too much to a so-called 'mainstream' audience who want the two (male and female of course) leads to get together. Us poor fangirls and boys are being forgotten about here!

and what the FUCK was that about Torchwood saving the Doctor several times??? JACK, maybe. Torchwood - helped out at the end of The Stolen Earth and that was about it.

It's funny how RTD tries to justify someone dying by saying in a big epic battle for earth you HAVE to have a death. But in the epic battle for the earth(and the one for the universe) Rose didn't die,and neither did Gwen.

Will comment when my brain end processing that so called 'fact'...
O.O

I don't know what audience members they've surveyed to come to this conclusion, but I can't imagine even those who don't like same sex relationships would think of them as the ideal couple.
The two of them together are like sandpaper rubbing on your skin,or like nails on a blackboard.Well, that's how I see them, lol and have from the beginning . And in the beginning I hadn't seen any of the Jack/Ianto relationship for my opinion to be biased because I liked them as a couple.
Making so much out of a non relationship while ignoring the canon one is also a bit strange as well as distateful to me.

Unfortunately, to me that says we can look forward to another season of Gwen making doe eyes at Jack.

It's really becoming more obvious that she does appear to resent the attention the Jack/Ianto pairing gets. I detect more than a hint of jealousy, do you think she knows that people would rather see John and Gareth (even Kai) at cons etc than her? Or that Gareth is going to go far further in the US than she ever will if he so chooses?

Unless RTD is very dim he must know this too, so it is in both their interests to push magnificent Gwen/Eve as much as they can.
Then I think RTD has always been very enthusiastic about writing women characters as bitches. He almost certainly hates women and also hates being gay. He also loathes fans of programs he has written for and has more than once admitted putting certain things in shows he has written just to upset fans.
I think RTD is the most overrated writer for TV at this minute.

As a side note, how come everyone has at least 2 themes on the TW soundtrack except Ianto? He has none.

NP: I agree. It's like Moonlighting.
EM: Yeah! Yes.
WTF? Are we watching the same show?
They were right about one part: Gwack would be boring once they got together. Good thing the show had Janto, who were not boring after getting together.
Rhys is a good man (and deserves better than her). Gwen should be grateful she has him, not pine after other men. Gwen pining after Jack, even after her engagement cheapened her love for Rhys. I found myself wondering at times if she did really love Rhys, especially when she almost kissed "Jack" at the wedding.
