Found this last night and now I´m sick.

Ultimately the audience want you (Gwen) and Jack to get together. The tension between the two characters is one of the key dynamics of the show.

WTF?!

I never understand comments like that, she's been with Rhys since series 1 and now she's married and pregnant... exactly what kind of people want her to go off with Jack?

From: [identity profile] phantomreviewer.livejournal.com

So do I! My god! I think it's very likely that we'll go for a fourth, but it very much depends on how the third one is received because it's a very new format. But personally I think it's the best. I'm not just saying that because I'm out here promoting it. I'm very true to my word, and I truly believe that this is epic and devastating, and beautiful at the same time, and I'm the proudest person in the world to be promoting it. I truly think that if this doesn't get us another series, I have no idea how we've got this far.

No she's just saying it because she's the only one who's 100% got a job if the series comes back. Grrr. That interview annoyed me, made Torchwood seem like the Gwen/Jack/Rhys triangle, what about Tosh, Owen and Ianto?

I really want to scream or at least throw something. I really should know better any time I read an article or interview at the moment it just makes me more pissed at it all, not to mention confused.

Erm, who? what?

As I read that article I went WTF too throughout it... but remember it is an article aimed at American audiences. It deals with the Jack/ Ianto relationship the way quite a few American media outlets deal with other homosexual issues... by pretending it doesn't exist.

Oh I agree but there is no way american media would "normalize" the Jack/ Ianto relationship

From: [identity profile] michele659.livejournal.com

I don't necessarily think that's true. We have stations, including the regular networks now, which have same sex relationships.
On cable there are whole shows devoted to those relationships. I could see the relationship between Jack and Ianto being normalized in the media, even if it starts out by being sensationalized at first.
I think the bottom line is if the people will watch it,the networks will show it.

From: [identity profile] mjmcca.livejournal.com

If there is a choice of a more mainstream pairing or a more controvertial one the mainstream one is the one that gets the press.

From: [identity profile] michele659.livejournal.com

I think it depends which fanbase they're trying to appeal to. There's been a lot of press over same sex couples in the past,as well as same sex tv shows.
I think that maybe the BBC or RTD has a view of America that's different from the way we actually are,and are marketing the show accordingly.

From: [identity profile] mjmcca.livejournal.com

Is there a show on Network TV right now that the starring character is in a same sex relationship? I don't watch enough TV to know.

From: [identity profile] michele659.livejournal.com

Well,on network tv the main one I can think of is Brothers and Sisters. Kevin is married to Scotty. Kevin is part of the core family on the show.
Kings had a main character who was gay and had relationships with men,one in particular.
There are gay people on several network shows, not necessarily in couples, though.
As far as networks go, I have to say that the soap operas have done better than night time shows in having gay couples. As The World Turns, All My Children and the Guiding Light have featured or are featuring gay couples.
I was thinking more in terms of cable in my response, since BBCA isn't one of the channels everyone can get. On cable there are the stations LOGO and HERE,and their focus is on same sex stories/relationships. On Showtime there've been series like The L Word and Queer As Folk that were very popular. That's also true of HBO. I watch mostly cable,so I'm not sure if there are more network examples of same sex couples on network tv.

See the last network show that had the star be a gay character that I remember was Will and Grace.... Yet they still had to have the main Gay character be living with a woman albeit as roommates,

Oh just pass the bucket already.
Its just one more thing that annoys me about Torchwood trying to appeal too much to a so-called 'mainstream' audience who want the two (male and female of course) leads to get together. Us poor fangirls and boys are being forgotten about here!

From: [identity profile] criccieth.livejournal.com

Think i'll join you at the bucket. Sorry, but a good 50% of the audience passionately does NOT want them to get together! And a large number DON'T want Season 4 because of this "beautiful, devastating" story - yeah, devastating to every other character but leaves Gwen smelling like roses (speaking of which, I watched DW Season 2/13 tonight and was again reminded that Gwen is TW's Rose - no harm may come to her!)

and what the FUCK was that about Torchwood saving the Doctor several times??? JACK, maybe. Torchwood - helped out at the end of The Stolen Earth and that was about it.

From: [identity profile] michele659.livejournal.com

Yes! I've felt that all along. Gwen is supposed to be Jack's Rose. Gag me and pass the bucket, please.
It's funny how RTD tries to justify someone dying by saying in a big epic battle for earth you HAVE to have a death. But in the epic battle for the earth(and the one for the universe) Rose didn't die,and neither did Gwen.

O.O

Will comment when my brain end processing that so called 'fact'...

I've never seen this tension they're talking about. To me it was all about her endlessly going on after him and annoying the hell out of me while she had an affair with Owen and then married Rhys.
I don't know what audience members they've surveyed to come to this conclusion, but I can't imagine even those who don't like same sex relationships would think of them as the ideal couple.
The two of them together are like sandpaper rubbing on your skin,or like nails on a blackboard.Well, that's how I see them, lol and have from the beginning . And in the beginning I hadn't seen any of the Jack/Ianto relationship for my opinion to be biased because I liked them as a couple.
Making so much out of a non relationship while ignoring the canon one is also a bit strange as well as distateful to me.

I think the tension between Jack and Gwen is that he has figured out that she is a self involved cow with delusions of grandeur.

From: [identity profile] techmuse.livejournal.com

sorry but one more comment Has anyone noticed the media is all over Eve and her being the star of Torchwood? Eve Myles is all over the mags and internet mags going on about how great it has been and the new series...blah blah prspincakes! I feel they are using any outlet necessary to make us want her and a fourth season. It feels contrived and desperate.

From: [identity profile] blucougar.livejournal.com

I think it was as much the interviewer in that who needed a kick up the rear. She at least admitted that it would ruin it if Jack and Gwen were to ever get together.
Unfortunately, to me that says we can look forward to another season of Gwen making doe eyes at Jack.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

What nauseating drivel! I refuse to watch any more series.

From: [identity profile] krillitanestorm.livejournal.com

Even though I'm just reading the interview, I can hear her saying all that exactly like Gwen. I think I'm going to hurl...

From: [identity profile] theromangeneral.livejournal.com

How amusing it is that in an interview not long ago Gareth admitted that the reaction from the fans was they they related far more to Ianto than to Gwen and preferred the Janto relationship than the possibility of Gwack.

JB likes to bring it up too on a fairly regular basis. Eve is starting to make herself look a little silly with her constant pushing of this agenda, almost as if she resents the attention that the Jack/Ianto pairing has brought to the show and to John and Gareth...

From: [identity profile] theromangeneral.livejournal.com

That he does, but I figured that went without saying :)
It's really becoming more obvious that she does appear to resent the attention the Jack/Ianto pairing gets. I detect more than a hint of jealousy, do you think she knows that people would rather see John and Gareth (even Kai) at cons etc than her? Or that Gareth is going to go far further in the US than she ever will if he so chooses?

From: [identity profile] jennelldhalrbj.livejournal.com

I think it is necessary to remember that Eve was virtually unknown before Torchwood, at least outside Wales. She may be a bit dim {in my opinion} but she knows that without Torchwood she will be unemployed quite soon because she is not exactly a very good actress.

Unless RTD is very dim he must know this too, so it is in both their interests to push magnificent Gwen/Eve as much as they can.

Then I think RTD has always been very enthusiastic about writing women characters as bitches. He almost certainly hates women and also hates being gay. He also loathes fans of programs he has written for and has more than once admitted putting certain things in shows he has written just to upset fans.

I think RTD is the most overrated writer for TV at this minute.

From: [identity profile] slns7552.livejournal.com

Did anyone notice how she got the job? She admitted her friend Euros Lyn called her and told her to audition for "The Unquiet Dead", RTD liked her so much he wrote Gwen for her and set TW in Wales just for her.

As a side note, how come everyone has at least 2 themes on the TW soundtrack except Ianto? He has none.

From: [identity profile] wingslapped.livejournal.com

I think this interview came from an alternate universe.

NP: I agree. It's like Moonlighting.

EM: Yeah! Yes.

WTF? Are we watching the same show?

They were right about one part: Gwack would be boring once they got together. Good thing the show had Janto, who were not boring after getting together.

Rhys is a good man (and deserves better than her). Gwen should be grateful she has him, not pine after other men. Gwen pining after Jack, even after her engagement cheapened her love for Rhys. I found myself wondering at times if she did really love Rhys, especially when she almost kissed "Jack" at the wedding.
