I was thinking about episode 5 the other day and realised something about the BBC's description of the episode.  They said 'Gwen Cooper stands alone' but this is a load of BS.

All she did was run and hide with a bunch of kids.  To me 'standing alone' in the world of DW and TW means actually doing something to stop the aliens and not hiding.  AND she wasn't alone!  She had Rhys and Andy as well as Rhiannon and Johnny.  So their description wasn't actually true to the ep.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy she didn't actually have anything to do with destroying the alien because it means we didn't see as much of her as we would have.  But she was still in it too much for my liking.  I can't be the only one who thought this.

Watching COE made me realize that I had been mislead all along about Torchwood. The star was not ever John Barrowman. They simply used his more well known name to make people watch the show. There was always more Eve and now they have managed to make her the star. They couldn't do that to start with because hardly anyone had heard of her.

As the star she had to come out unscathed because, despite all the crap fed us by the BBC and the writers and directors, the main star of a program usually comes out on top in a drama.

I have no intention of watching the Eve Myles show and I have a feeling a lot of other people will agree with me. She is an average actress and could not possibly lead a show without a lot of very strong co-stars. The BBC will no doubt spend a great deal of license payers money finding this out. Which is a pity for everyone, including Eve, who has evidently swallowed a lot of rubbish about herself and will, at some point, have what my next door neighbor would call "a rude awakening."

Well I agree, I have not seen CoE but been spoiled...so I can't say anything on her performance in the last season, to me anyway, of Torchwood. I don't see her as having the acting chops to be the lead character. Her best scenes in 1-2 were done with the excellent help from the other characters or how well the scene was written. I think the show will descend into mediocrity with her at the helm, a desperate parody to it's former dramatic/adventurous appeal. And well my opinion could be overshadowed by my loathing of Gwen as a character. But I stand by my assessment of EM's acting ability.

The description for that episode really bothered me. I remember thinking that if she ended up saving the world, and we had to told how fantastic she is again I would be really pissed off.

Thankfully it didn't turn out that way.
