Waatching the first few episodes of torchwood, i'd never of thought i'd have loved Ianto as much as i do, but you really made him your own and he's such and amazing character, easily the best on the show! I was so sad to see him die in jack's arms, it was heartbreaking, and although it seemed like the end of Ianto and Janto i hope there's more to see from you in the show, should it continue!!

HI GARETH!

Um. Yeah. When I met you, you were very drunk, and ended up elbowing me in the face, but you kissed it better so that's alright :D
I wanted to say that when I first started watching Torchwood I instantly took to Ianto and I want to say thank you for making him such a memorable character in the way you portrayed him. I was heartbroken when he died, however if there was to be a series 4, i'd love to see Ianto back into Torchwood some how, I don't see how there could be another series without him, it wouldn't be right! It just wouldn't.
I look forward to seeing you in whatever projects you have to come.

Love from Evie.

P.S. I did slap your arse a few times at the hub 2... I don't think you saw it was me though, because I ran away :D

You or more correctly your character that was so well shown through out torchwood's three series inspired me to do well in my life. Ianto came from an estate and achieved something which he obviously truely loved and gained the love of someone he loved regardless of outsider opinion. Your acting for the entire three seasons completely blew me away and one day i only hope that my acting is on par with your own. Thank you for seeing me through some of the tougher times of my life with your amazing, inspirational acting. I hope that one day i'm able to meet you and tell you how much you've changed my life. I have written to you but never recieve a reply. It's to be expected for such a busy actor but i will keep it up and one day *fingers crosses* i'll recieve a reply.

torchwood without you is peanut butter without jelly. I look forward to seeing whatever you do next :)

Love Kymii xx

I saw series 2 first and was impressed. Your timing and quips as well as the budding relationship between Jack and Ianto were the reasons I became a fan and made me watch series 1 (although I didn't like it due to not enough Ianto). Now that there's only Gwen (my least favorite character) left I will no longer be watching.

Good luck on your future endeavors. I hope you find the fame you deserve.

Gareth, your portrayal of Ianto was always wonderful. I have never been so attached to a fictional character since my schoolgirl crush on Sherlock Holmes (yeah, I'm weird). You know, Arthur Conan Doyle had to bring back Holmes from the dead because of public demand and I would be thrilled if Ianto too was brought back somehow. But even if that doesn't happen, I'll always treasure the image of Ianto as played by you -- it gave me a lot of happiness.
Good luck with everything, and I hope that we'll see you in many more TV roles.

Hi!

I just want to tell you what an amazing actor you are. You broke me twice in two weeks! First in 'The Dead Line' : that monologue was simply heartbreaking. The way you delivered it was truly magnificient. I was in my parent's kitchen, hijacking their Internet connection, crying, my mom's asking: What's happening? what's he saying??? (she doesn't speak english). And then Children of Earth. You were fantastic! I've never been so involved with fictional characters before (Ianto and Jack), and those episodes hit me hard. I've never cried so much. I think we love those characters so much as something to do with how much we love you and John, you are both such great human being.

So, I hope to see you in some new projects eventually, and if there's more Torchwood, I'm still in denial and really hope Ianto'll come back :)

From a little Québécoise fan(French Canadian -god I hate that term- from the Province of Quebec)

P.S.
Thanks weevilrockyou for doing this. It's a brilliant idea!

Oh and I just saw a typo in what I wrote.
I think we love those characters so much as something to do
it would be " love those characters so much HAS something..."

and I adore you user name. Had me laugh out loud!

You had us at the best of times, you had us at the worse of times, you had us through the ups and though the downs, you had us when you said Hello, you had us when you said goodbye. And now Torchwood will never have the same us again.

Good luck to all your future endevours.

Gareth,

Your portayal of Ianto Jones has made such an impact on my life. I have never been more affected by the death of a fictional character as I was when Ianto died. As of writing this it's been a few days, and I am still upset and tear up when I think about it.

The relationship between Jack and Ianto was one of the only positive same-sex relationship portrayed on current TV, and is stil my favourite TV couple, and for that I am thankful too. I cannot imagine a Torchwood without Ianto Jones in it, and if there is to be a fourth series I sincerely hope Ianto will come back somehow.

Whether Ianto comes back or not, he will always reamin my favourite character of the series, and it's thanks to your emotional and heartwarming portrayal of him. I hope to see you in other roles in the future, whether Ianto returns to Torchwood or not.

Love from Aissa.

Gareth,

I feel a little silly, considering that I could easily be your mother, and have never done anything like this before. *g*

But the truth is, I used to watch the show for Ianto, and enjoyed everything you did with the character very much. I never saw Dr. Who or any of the other actors before, either, so I came to Torchwood completely unbiased, so perhaps the fact that your acting made me sit through the less-than-stellar episodes (like "Random Shoes") nonetheless perhaps means something.

I wish you joy and success in your future career as an actor and in your private life as well.

Regards,
Soledad

Gareth,
Here's to you, for bringing such an interesting and messed-up (I so love messed up) character into our hearts.
And here's hoping you do more audio books, they make the long drive to visit family fly by.
Hope to see you Down Under some day. I'll buy you a beer.

OK, so this one is from a friend of mine who doesn't have a livejournal account (and is too darn lazy to get one). Hope you don't mind.

Gareth,
Hope to meet you at a con oneday and see you act in future shows, movies, whatever grabs you. Looking forward to your next character so good luck!

Gareth, hearts are breaking all over right now, even as far away as Australia, which is where I am. I absolutely fell in love with Ianto, and I’m going to miss him enormously from Torchwood. (I’m still holding out hope for a Sci-Fi resurrection miracle; after all, it happened in Buffy and Supernatural!)
You’re a brilliant actor and musician, and I hope that one day I’ll be able to come to the UK, and see you perform with your band. Thankyou so much for everything you’ve given to the Torchwood franchise, and I hope your career continues to grow and grow and grow... (apologies to John Barrowman, there!) In the meantime, I will be clinging fiercely to my TW box sets, and everything else I have that features your gorgeous face and/or beautiful Welsh vowels.

ps, forgot to add my name.

Much love and best wishes,
Naomi.

We were supposed to identify with Gwen, but from the start I identified with Ianto - largely ignored, left to do all the jobs no one else could be bothered with, rarely thanked or even acknowledged. I was delighted with the way you took the character and made him grow into a fully-rounded, believable person and I came to series 3 looking forward to futher character development and a greater exploration of the relationship between Jack and Ianto. Instead, my favourite character was killed in what I consider a rather tasteless way (although the scene was touching and beautifully acted). Ianto is seen to be in a same-sex relationship, several characters call him queer (or use similar terms), one to his face, then he gets killed by a virus! What a slap in the face to every gay, lesbian or bisexual viewer. For me, Torchwood died with Ianto. I will not be watching in the future (if it even has a future). Good luck in your own future endeavours.

Hi!

I think that you are brilliant and I'm sad that they didn't give you more lines in the first place as that would've brought alot more girls in. I bet that most of the viewers are girls coz you don't see that many men rushing to watch two men kiss. Unless they like that sort of thing but I think its almost instinct for a girl to love a gay couple. Not that I'm saying your gay. I think that your best episodes were... series 1: ep 4, ep 6 ep 13 series 2: ep 1, ep 2, ep 3, ep 4, ep 5, ep 7, ep 9,(LOL) ep 10 and the last two epsiodes :)

also I knwot hsi is long but I really want to know. Did you want to continue playing Ianto or did someone else want to leave or couldn't they be bothered to do another series? I think that you and Naoko mori should've had your own show....maybe with John barrowman and Burn goreman in it....and tom price :D *hint hint*

sorry its so long

XD

Gareth i heard you were getting married. Congratulations!
I think it's a shame that they killed your character off but your a great actor so we all know you will be in many more shows to come and be great!

Gareth

Your portrayal of Ianto Jones, is what made Torchwood 'must watch' TV for me. Ianto was always the underappreciated one on screen, but not in the fandom.
The words might have belonged to the writers, but you were the one who made Ianto Jones live.

Torchwood will not be Torchwood without you and Ianto.

From: [identity profile] michele659.livejournal.com

Dear Gareth,
I was heartbroken at the death of your character. Ianto was the true heart of Torchwood for me and many others.
Your portrayal is what took the character from a minor one to one who really WAS Torchwood. I loved Ianto's witty, loyal, courageous, intelligent, loving self-and I know that's because of you. You could really say so much with your expressions and your eyes as well as your tone of voice.
You had chemistry with all of the actors. Everyone-especially John -shined when you were with them in a scene.
I was very happy with the development of your character over the seasons, and I'm sorry that we weren't to see more of it. I felt they had only scratched the surface of all the depths and layers that was Ianto, and it's a shame that was sacrificed,(and the fans denied seeing those depths explored)in the name of sensationalism and ratings, especially since it really was NOT necessary for the story.
I hope that you are brought back if there is a new season.
If there isn't I won't be watching.
Good luck to you in the future.I would love to see you performing in NY and in Hollywood! I hope you have all the success you deserve!
Michele

From Spain: You are the best Ianto possible and Jack and Ianto are my reasons to see the show (season 1 & 2). The couple of the show is Janto. You have a fantastic future, so congrats!
