My small but concise critic of Gwen's actions on episode 2

*SPOILERS*

Well, I didn't mind her, but if she spoke to someone else other than Lois when she called Mr Frobisher's office, she would have been toast. And if Ianto hadn't pulled the cement block/cell at that moment she would be dead.

And I still don't get why she said to Ianto "Ianto, you took your time." She was there, guns blazing without a solid plan to rescue Jack. She looked very bad ass doing it, but its not necessarily practical, is it?

Ianto was smart enough to find out what was going on before barging in.

Gwen is overly reliant on luck.
Ianto makes his own luck and would probably have gotten away easier if Gwen hadn't been there stirring up a hornets nest.

I'll allow her the 'you took your time' comment as I'm presuming it was simply a joke. (it's practically compulsory to say that on any action scene where your colleague has basically just saved your ass in the nick of time)

i think the 'you took your time comment was intended as a joke. She wasn't criticising Ianto. I think her plan was basically get in, find Jack and shoot our way out but she couldn't have foreseen Jack being set in concrete by the bad guys.
I agree she has been lucky but then Ianto was lucky to find an abandoned digger and know how to operate it. I don't think i'd have the first idea.

Yeah, it's kind of British humour. It's a way of saying thanks for saving me and expressing relief to see the person as well.
Gwen had no idea that Ianto was even at that base and she thought she'd been captured so she was very relieved to see Ianto there.

I'm a native English speaker and I didn't think that joke was particularly funny or witty.

I thought Ianto's internal reaction went something like this:

Gwen: Ianto, you took your time.

Ianto's thoughts: Fuck you very much, Gwen. Next time I'll wait just a little bit longer before being a big damned hero. You know, so they can scrape you from the walls.

I actually almost kind of liked her and that bit annoyed me too.

it's a typical joke under the circumstances - though it might have worked better if Gwen was male, as it's also an unspoken "thanks for saving us all, you're brilliant" - and a woman is more likely to actually SAY that than a man. From Jack, it would have been typical.

The story's getting better:
1) She-Must-Not-Be-Named talks less.
2) when I cligned the eyes fast enough, I saw her less either.
3) the story's finally moving forward.
